Here's one I would like to try:
Thanos - 360
Deathweavers(3x) - 120
Marcu Esenwein(just as filler) - 20
Total-500 pts
Put all order markers on Thanos until he dies and watch your opponent attempt to kill 12 scattering Deathweavers before Thanos is reincarnated. Unfortunately I don't have Thanos, or 3 sets of Deathweavers, or Marcu Esenwein.
Another:
Thanos - 360
Deathweavers(2x) - 80
Marro Warriors - 50
Isamu(just as filler) - 10
Total-500 pts
Similar to above except if and when Thanos dies you can just reclone Marro Warriors until Thanos comes back.

Herald of the Dead... that's a cool name! Now I want to make a Zombie Surfer!
I've had this one tossing around in my head...
Iron Man - 240
Airborne Elite - 110
Roman Archers x2 - 110
Marcu Esenwein - 20
500 Points
I call it Death from Above. Set up the Archers, fly in Iron Man and Marcu, and once the Elites drop, unleash hell!

Good one! I'll have to try that once I get Marcu and another set of Roman Archers.

I've been using a Dead Man Walking Army with my daughter (which is similar to monkeyfish's Herald of the Dead, but w/less zombies... I wish I woulda thought of his...):
Thanos - 360
Zombie x2 - 120
Total - 480
Whenever I do get Wave 7, I'll throw Marcu in for those last 20...
If I had another set of 4th Mass, I'd run a "Spirit of 76" Army:
Captain America - 220
4th Mass x4 - 280
Total - 500 even
Of course, then, I'd also have to give ol' Cap one of them pointy-hats to look like the Spirit of 76, but still....

Here's one I made for a 600-point game:
Krav Maga Agents
Tagawa Samurai
Kaemon Awa
Raelin the Kyrie Warrior
Guilty McCreech
VENOM

I used this army at the NH tournament recently. I placed second. Only my brother beat me (killed Thanos), and he used Q9 and Silver Surfer. Isamu, however, is never "just" filler.

At that same tournament, I won with
Braxas 210
Venom 150
Krav Maga 100
Rats 40
Total: 500
Braxas did almost all of the work - she's lethal for Marvel heroes.
A couple of other nice armies from that tournament that included Marvel heroes:
Shiny Happy People
Dr Doom 245
Sir Denrick 100
Knights x2 140
Total: 285
Captain America 220
Q10 150
Nakitas 120
Total: 490
I almost went with:
Silver Surfer 320
Kelda 80
Krav Maga 100
Total: 500
If Kelda gets one attempt to heal the surfer when he has two wounds or more, the expected return is already more than 80 points.

I wish I could have faced you just to see which army was better. Next time we are in the same area, we should bust out those armies and face each other. Congrats on the first place win though.

That would be sweet.
I actually thought about Thanos, Surfer, and the other massive Marvel heroes before the tournament. Braxas needs three goes of acid breathing to have a 50:50 chance (approximately) of killing one. A character with an attack of six will typically take about four turns to kill Braxas. Combining these - and adding in the rats whose job was to engage those Marvel heroes so they couldn't attack me - I figured I had close to a 50:50 chance of eliminating a Marvel hero in a game, at a cost of 250 points.
These seemed like reasonable odds, and if I manage to play well tactically the odds improve. I didn't expect it to come off every time, but I got lucky (it was close one game - I took 5 or 6 attempts to get Doom, and only had two lives left when I did). Usually taking out an opponent's Marvel megahero will win the game (Thanos is an interesting exception); the downside is that if I don't take him out then I haven't put any wounds on him and have probably lost the game (though Venom and the Krav are no slouches).

Nope. Some do, some don't. Remember that there is no such thing as an officially sanctioned tourney for Heroscape. Therefore you have to check the rules with each organizer before you attend, to find out what's allowed and what's not, and how the games are going to be setup and played.

Captain America -220
Krav Maga - 100
Raelin- 80
Deathreavers x2 - 80
(Insert filler unit here, I didn't have one for the last tourney I was in)
I found this army to be fairly flexible. The strategy is simple, jam the front line , and glyphs with the Deathreavers. Then use CA and the Krav to rain down pain. If you are holding some glyphs and keep Raelins aura around CA and the Krav its a hard army to beat. This was particularly effective against samurai armies.
