Okay here are some of the rules for HALO Scape as well as some of the units I've typed up. The rest is still in paper/pencil form and I will add more this weekend, just thought I'd see if I could get some thoughts, :D

A few of the things I am trying to clean up are the Re-Spawn mechanic, Grenades, and the Bubble Shield ability on Spartan - B08. Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

The Un-Official Halo-Scape Rule Set

HALO-Scape is intented for use along side the Heroscape Advanced Rules with a few exceptions.

Re-Spawn Placement
Before Drafting begins and after the map is set up, choose 6 tiles on the map to dedicate as spawn points. Place 1 numbered Spawn Glyph on each of the 6 chosen tiles. (art to come)

Drafting
Each player recieves 200 points to draft from. Before drafting each player rolls a D20. The Player with the Highest roll chooses a unit from the draft pool first. The Player with the next highest roll chooses second, etc, etc.

Rounds
Each round consists of two turns per player.

Order Markers
Each Player will only use order marker's 1&2. Order Markers are placed before Initiative is determined at the beginning of each round.

Start Up
At the beginning of Round 1 after order markers have been placed and Initiative has been determined each Player rolls a D6 to determine placement for their units. After the D6 is rolled place 1 unit you control on a clear tile adjacent to the Spawn Glyph matching the result of the dice roll. If that Spawn Glyph has an enemy unit adjacent to it, you may choose to roll the D6 1 more time.

The act of Respawning
When a unit is destroyed it is not removed from the game, instead that unit is placed on it's card until the beginning of the next round, before Order Markers are placed. At the beginning of each round roll a D6 for each destroyed unit. Place that unit on a clear tile adjacent to the Spawn Glyph matching the result of the dice roll. If that Spawn Glyph has an enemy unit adjacent to it, you may choose to roll the D6 1 more time.

How to win
Each player will have a Kill Chart and 1 Chart Marker. The first Player to reach 10 kills or the player with the most kills at the end of 10 rounds becomes the winner for that game.

Grenades
Each player in addition to a Kill Chart will have a Grenade chart as well. Each Grenade chart has two open slots, 1 for a Frag and 1 for a Spike/Plasma. At the beginning of each round all grenade charts are reset so that each player has 1 of each grenade. Grenades may be used by any Knight, or King Class unit. When a Grenade is used, the marker for that grenade is removed from the Grenade Chart until the next round.

Figure Movement, Attack, Defense, and LOS are to be treated the same as the classic Heroscape Advanced rules.

Pawn Class will include 100 point squads (Grunts, Soldiers) to come

Knight Class will include 100 point heroes (Spartans, Elites)

King Class will include 200 point special Heroes (ie, the Chosen, Master Chief) to come

Rook Class will include 200 point Large Heroes (Hunter, Brute) to come

 Thank You, yes pics will be on the way as soon as I can start finding good images of the minis. Once I get ahold of some of them myself, I'll be setting up a few pages for a rulebook with images.

As it sets there are 28 units for this, so pics will be up over time. The cards will use a similar background image as Marvel HS, Humans being Green and Covenant being Purple.

I'm not a big Halo fanatic by any means, but I did play the campaign games in Halo 1 and 2 and some multi-player with friends.

I like the re-spawning rules. The D6 mechanic is handy and I take it the re-spawn glyph will look like Malechi's directional glyph with 1 -6 printed on it to let you know which glyph to place the figure on.

I guess, to me, the one thing that seems to be missing is the weapon swapping. I think the Wizkids game intends to feature this with different scultps of the Spartans with various weapons. Have you thought about making glyphs/equipment cards for the weapons, so figures can pick them up and discard their old weapons like in the game (being able to keep two equipment cards in play to swap back and forth between them)?

I thought about doing that, but not really with equipment cards, instead I thought about using ability cards. I thought that there could be 2 different draft phases, 1 being the units, 2 being the weaponry.

I just wasn't certain how to approach it. I want to avoid getting too technical, because this could get way, difficult real quick. I want to make sure I avoid ammunition and and too many grenades. I want to make sure that it doesn't take each player 10 minutes just to sort through all of there stuff, just to make one turn.

This is really only a rough draft at this point.

As for the Spawn Glyph art, I haven't seen Mal's stuff, but I'm guessing it's the same concept. Each will be numbered and in a hex shape sized to fit on glyphs.

The Wizkids FAQ has this tidbit on their mechanic:

Players can bring a number of special swap figures to the table, each with a different weapon type. They can choose one figure to start the game and place the others off the map in a sideboard area. During the game circumstances may allow the player to swap his shotgun figure (for example) with his rocket launcher figure from his sideboard. Look for more details on this mechanic as the release date approaches.

Perhaps something similar can be done via a glyph that allows you to swap your figure for one within a certain HS point range?

Either way, the HS card approach will limit the weapon availability, which is one of the key things about Halo. It is not like Doom where the character can carry one of every single weapon he finds! :P

It could get really complicated.

The ammunition count has to go out the window (despite the fact that in the video game that leads to some tense and heroic moments) and the way you simplified the grenade amounts and access should help.

I suspect the Wizkids rules won't be too simple, because they have ground and flying vehicles to deal with, etc. When they get the rules up, I'm sure you'll be able to use some of their concepts to refine what you are working on.

That's the idea, I don't want to completely thief stuff from both Heroscape and from Halo Clix, but it is my goal to maybe combine the two into a faster paced game.

I'm not sure I want to do figure swaps, because I really want to customize each individual figure. I may just create a generalized Spartan set of rules for each Spartan/Elite card and focus most of the swap on the weapons themselves.

Like, Spartan - B08 chooses to use 1 Sniper Rifle, 1 Shotgun, and Elite - X 1 Assault Rifle (rules to come) and 1 Battle Rifle. These cards would have the attack as well as the range on them instead of the unit card having them.

This may help create more room on the card for abilities and info. I want them to be the style of the Marvel Cards, but I won't be using te Classic card shape. Below is a concept of the Card (without any art added yet). You could add weapons to the designated areas at the bottom of the card. The final size will be around 5w x 4h, I'm trying to make it easier to place cards while still having a fun shape.

I'll have to create an ability on the card where a Spartan without weapons can still attack with Melee and use it the same as a special attack (I'll probably have to rename special attack if they have no base attack) like:

Melee Normal Attack
Attack 2. Range 1. Spartan - 00 may only use Melee Normal Attack
in place of a Special Attack or if he has no weapons on this card.

This sounds like it would be a lot of fun to play. Even with some normal HS figures.

Nicely done!

I don't see how these would work. I believe that CA meant there were six Glyphs numbered 1 through 6 as in Glyph #1, Glyph #2, Glyph #3, Glyph #4, Glyph #5 and Glyph #6. But, here they are anyway ... Because I never like to show off.

Wow, the concept of this must be something pretty big to tackle, I have one question.

What are the spaces for weapon info for? Will they be short descriptions, or will the figure be able to attack normally with either weapon? I personally would like to see the latter used. :D

They will essentially be treated like Special attacks. Each weapon's text will act like a special attack or Special Ability instead of each one being on a character's card, it'll be on it's own independent card. You will choose to do a normal melee attack or use one of your weapons.

Some of the non weapon cards that will still be drafted during the weapon draft are:

Shield Drainer: Any units within 6 clear sight spaces may not
use the "Shield Armor 16" ability. Shield drainer also affects this unit.

Bubble Shield: Start the game with 3 brown Bubble Markers on this card.
If this unit or a friendly unit adjacent to this unit would be
destroyed you may roll the D20. On a roll of 1-7 nothing
happens. On a roll of 8-19 remove 1 Bubble marker from
this card and that unit is not destroyed. On a roll of 20
that unit is not destroyed.

Power Lift: After power Lift is used remove it from this card.
Instead of it's normal move, this unit may move only one space.
This space may be up to 14 levels higher. When using Power Lift,
this unit is never attacked while leaving an engagement.

Weapons will be drafted like the units, but I'm not sure yet if I'll allow any weapon swapping during the actual game. At this point it's not likely.

It looked like it would be an easy task when I started, then it looked like something way to big to handle, and now it looks like it'll be a ppiece of cake, ;)

Doc Savage coming late to the party as usual.

As this seems to emulate the Deathmatch mode of Halo, It seems that every one should start with an identical card and common weapon cards as well as markers for grenades.

There should be weapon glyphs scattered around the board with a supply of matching cards. I wouldn't let the weapons respawn and you are right to ignore ammo counts - except for rocket launchers. Those should get 2 or 3 shots. You can have 2 weapons at a time. If you drop the rocket launcher, you can't be the next player to pick it up.

Your respawn mechanic is simple and good.

For me, the weapon swap aspect is one of the most fun parts of the game. We play 4-player deathmatch at work at lunch sometimes and I am pretty bad at it. My best finish ever was 2nd place.

If you move over a weapon card and want to swap, swap glyphs and put the correct weapon card in front of you.

I highly recommend having the weapon variety. And if you are a nut and get all the different Halo figs, you can swap out the fig for the one with the right weapon...

CupidsArt
September 20th, 2007, 02:52 PM
Thanks Doc. You're right about the weapon swap. I'm probably going to print a few SMG and Magnum cards as starting weapons. As for figures, right now It's just going to be any Spartan figure you feel like running, but as I get more figures that may change. I know a few of the guys in our group want me to paint up Spartans to match what they play with online.

I'm thinking that I'll just keep it simple. Re-Base 2 Marines, 2 ODST, 10 (5 red-5 Blue) Spartans, 1 Master Chief, 1 Arbiter, 5 Elites (nobody in our group really like the Elites), 2 Jackals, 2 Grunts and a few Brutes/Zealots.

I think I'll stay away from the Flood figures, too much extra stuff that I don't think people will play. I may see what I can do about putting the glyph on the card and just printing out some Cheat Sheets for what each Glyph does.

So you're planning on each player running more than 1 character?

Don't you need an attack on the card for when you punch?

Yeah, it'll be a point limit. Like 300 points or 400 points. Of course that may change after tomorrow.

Right now I'm working on the Grenade cards as well as Kill-Counters. Not sure how I'm going to work the squads yet, they may get dropped seeing as how it may complicate the re-spawn. That's what play testing is for.

I have 6 more weapons to finish before I move on to Heroes. The weapons will be posted tonight and hopefully the characters as well.

I'm not even going to start worrying about the Warthog (jeep) unless somebody comes up with a really nifty way to make it work in HS. If somebody can do that, then I'm all over it as well as other vehicles.

All of my Character cards that I'm planning on testing tomorrow are up. I'll finish the Weapons and Weapon Info Sheet tomorrow afternoon and get those up here as well.

Also, if you want to play test anything please do. I guess the place I'm most worried about is the Squads. Both Xero and Hatter really wanted to try bonding on a few of them but I'm still not sure, :?

ASLO: As a side note, It may not have been mentioned but "Dual Wield" weapons combine their attacks and abilities when used on the same card, but the range of that attack is determined by the weapon with the lowest range. If you have a Plasma Pistol and an SMG, the total attack will be 3 and the maximum range will be 5. In addition a unit will not be allowedto use Shield Armor or Armor of Truth and Mercy that turn.

I am not even closely into Halo but this is absofreakinlutleysweet. If I ever get back to working on my RPG game I wanted to create I will be sure to hire you.

Just picked up a booster to give it a try...I'm a little disappointed that the figures are slightly too large for a convincing HS conversion.

Anyone else as concerned as I am about this?

September 26th, 2007, 11:25 AM
The scale is not really a concern for me since it's not that far off. The creatures will work fine. The humans are a touch bigger than their HS counterparts but the Master Chief/Spartans are supposed to be tall anyway. Like the old adage states: "It's close enough for government work." :D

A comparison shot of some Halo figures versus Heroscape:
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c110/LilNewbie/Unit%20Figs/100_2958.jpg
Front Figures (L to R):Master Chief-Plasma Pistol&SMG, Thorgrim, Spartan-Magnum Pistols, Kaemon Awa, Grunt-Plasma Pistol, Tarn Viking Warrior.
Back Figure:Hunter-Fuel Rod Cannon

The Halo figures are a tad bigger but not much.

I found this on another post.

This could be very useful for me. My little brother, formerly my most common HS opponent, has gotten out of the "geek" gaming due to it being "uncool" but he loves Halo. I, on the other hand, obviously love HS but could care less about Halo. This could be a great middle ground for us if we pick up some figures. So for all your work I say http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v210/bmr102/TGTTM/TomGoestotheMayorRatsOffToYa.jpg

will this be a download soon?? just bought about 30 bucks worth of haloclix online. i had a rule idea though, for drafting and respawinign say you play a 500pt game you get to choose draft areas each counts towars 5oo so 1 is 100 2 is 200 and so on you spilt up 500 however you like
example
thre 100s
one 200
figures with a point cost equal to ore less then the spawn poitn can spwan there, squads each count as 25pts so
you use your 200pt spot and spawn the chief and some back up marines
now your oppenent can take your spanw points.
roll the d20 for each one when you are on it to capture
100pt you need to roll a 5 or greater
200p 10 or greater
300pt 15 greater
400pt 17 greater
500pt 20
just my idea though

...wow. This is fantastic stuff. You took the feel of Halo and put it directly into Heroscape, barely changing the base rules. Very, very well done.

my idead was a capture the base type game, i use it for regular scape already. Each base lets you spawn a different point value. Also the order markers are put on a base as a whole so you move it, ill give an example using regular heroscape.
Say you drafted
Syvarris
Venoc warlord
2x arubiean archers
2x armorac vipers
you are playing a 500pt game you chose the spawn points as
one 100pt spawn area
two 200pt spawn area
you then place the corresponding spawn glyphs on your part(about half) of the map the 100pt spawn point can have any figure less then 100pts put on it and so on, this makes armies much more dispersed, now for halo since you can respawn multiple times the spawn points would be able to be captured demonstatreted by the d20 roll
get it?

Sorry about the long vacation, I been playing with my xmods and haven't touched heroscape in months.

Now on track, this is awesome :word: My niehbor , brother, and I love to play halo deathmatches, but don't like heroscape so much, this will help get them into it.

I would like to know when is an estimated time it should be finished, can't wait to play test it, but first I need to know if your pictures are already the correct size to be printed, or do I have to resize them myself.

Then I would love to see more weapons, such as more from halo 2 and 3, because most are from halo 1. And the weapons should also have special powers, such as the smg being able to attack up to five times at one attack.

Other than that keep up the great work :toast:

Today after printing these off and playing a few rounds, deathmatch style, I have a few things to contribute.

1- Defence is to strong, 4 with a possible +2 is way to much, and the only thing that is higher than that is the shotgun. Makes the Sniper Rifle a nesseity. Drop two defence and make them lives and I think it will give it a more haloish feel

2-As I said before, more guns, rocket launchers (Attack-5 Range-5), sword.

3-I believe I had more but I forgot, sorry :dnfnoob:

This is really cool, way better than anytrhing I could ever do. I do have 2 questions after looking at it though.

1.Why does the only human abillity mention battle rifles when you don't have such a weapon?
2.Why is the SMG worse than the Magnum?

This is brilliant!!! I can see this being the preferred way to play in some cases.

My only question is what happens with hand to hand combat? Or is that something you don't worry about in this game? If so that's fine, just checking.

I am already thinking about how to incorporate the Predators and Aliens from the Horror clix line (not to mention a truckload of other sci-fi minis that I own)

Will you be uploading templates any time soon?? Or is that something you would prefer not to do.

Really fantastic stuff. Really, really fantastic!

This is really the only downloadable place right now. I'll try to set up a couple of pdf's this weekend.

This weekend I'll be working on fixing a few tweeks to the gameplay system as well as adding a few weapons while taking away others. There have been a few suggestions about the gameplay from people who have tested this out and I really think that implementing their suggestions into the gameplay will only help make it more fun, :D

If there are any weapons that you would like me to make up just make a post, :)

I love the concept, but to be honest I have never played Halo, ever. I plan to pick up the figures to give this a shot as it is a completely new way to use HeroScape. More games is always a good thing!

My only complaint is that it is hard to tell the difference between the Marine and Covenant weapons, so I went and created these ...

Hello? Is anybody still here??

:)

We just got "into" Halo Actionclix. While I haven't been terribly impressed with the standard Clix mechanic, me and my son have been playing a mashup of Clix and HS. Typically basic Clix with Heroscape terrain and movement rules (climbing, +1 height advantage to attack and defense/armor scores). It's pretty fun. The warthog is really fun, too and seems to work okay on HS hexes (without the Clix base). These new HaloScape rules look cool. We will try them out soon.

Rook Class will include 200 point Large Heroes (Hunter, Brute) to come

this card. In addition, The Outcast gains Counter Strike
against any unit with a Revenge Marker on it's card

I do not know if this has not already been addressed but the wording on the sticky grenade needs to be changed because currently the way it is worded with a 1-17 "nothing happens" so the dice roll is completely negated and the attacked figure receives no wounds. What it should say is "on a roll of 1-17 roll defense dice normally"

Not really the best way to bump a thread like this, but whatever.

More importantly, WizKids recently released a huge Halo set full of juicy figures! If anybody is interested, I would love to get a project going, basing slightly off of this (with permission of course), but not entirely.
