Does anyone know of a good place to find the foam sheets for storing miniatures? I purchased some really nice storage containers and have been debating on how I want to separate/protect the figures. I decided to go with the grey foam, so that I can cut the size openings I need. HELP!

Tackleboxes work wonders for storing and separating figs.

You could get foam at just about any hobby shop or craft shop. I bet Wal-Mart would even have some in their crafts department.

There are lots of sellers on the internet. Here's one:

Fabric outlets will have lots of foam that you can use. You can also find this foam at Michaels, and other arts and craft stores. I have also seen this foam in army surplus stores.

Thanks guys! I have been looking at most of the places you mentioned but I couldn't find the 2" thick or thicker foam. I wonder if I was just not looking hard enough.

Save yourself some time/money and just throw all of your figs in one big bin like I do.

If the figs were metal or you had to glue them together I would understand the need to protect them. But these figs are pretty tough.

I usually work up a good bit of foam brushing my teeth, but unfortunately it dissipates quickly. And it's fairly sticky.

Real electronics/computer/tool stores will have the foam as well as cases. Altex doesn't appear to have them online but they do have it in store. Another option is your local shipper. My local PakMail and UPS store keep foam on hand.

I have half my figs in a tacklebox and half in a box I got from Home Depot (that one's great for all the commons). Both boxes were in the $12-15 range. If you have a designated gaming area and want a more permanent system, get those big blue organizers with the little clear, pull-out drawers. My buddy has that setup and it works out really nice.

:google:

I got 6 cases for $3 each at walmart. They have the separators that you put in there...

Thick foam can be expensive. Easiest place to get it is to go to a mattress outlet, or check in the bedroom section of WM. An alternative is to go to an Army surplus store and buy one of the green sleeping bag mats. It will have to be laid out to straighten, as they get rolled up and seem to maintain that curl.

$3 for a single tackle box? that a lot cheaper than i thought they'd be. especially after my dads 10% discount....

dj, when we finally get together I might have just what you need. I use several "Crown Royal" case boxes that I get from work. It works pretty well for me.

Thanks for all the ideas! I know these figs are pretty durable, and protection isnt my main focus, other than the sword tips and spear tips bending all the time. (I hate that!) My main focus is organization and ease of locating the figures I want. When you end up having hundreds and hundreds of figures, having them all throw in a box can be a royal pain.

I looked at tackle boxes, didn't want to go that route because of all the larger figures that can't fit all that well. I like the foam idea because I can cut out whatever slots I need, then I can also stack layers as well.

Joah, I will hold off on the buying of anything until I see what you have. I appreciate all of your help.

Are you talking about the nuts and bolts drawers? Those are also really useful for really getting into building with legos. I cut out a picture of the individual parts from building instructions and tape them to the front of the drawer. Makes it extremely easy to find the right part in a hurry. Those drawers are like duct tape, they have a million uses.

So... that's a pretty valid necro, right?
