I also want to announce something for the next contest. Many of you may not know that Chief has been a silent partner for these contests, helping come up with the initial rules and contest ideas. For Contest #5, Chief will be running it with an idea he's been itching to get going. Contest #6 will provide an opportunity for those clamoring for something to fit with the MarvelScape set, and Contest #7 will be something totally different altogether (hint, don't throw away those odds and ends around the house, you never know).

I like that you've taken this to the next level with cards and all for the terrain! Lots of fun.
Just in case you're running out of ideas (I'm sure you're not), it'd be awesome if you gave one of these contests a Marvel flavor (busted up building? City park? something along those lines).
Anyway, just a thought from a big fan of this contest without the abilities to really enter myself. :D

That's probably a tad ambitious for a Speed contest! But I'd sure loooove to see (have) one (ten). :D

Well, I've had something in the works for all 4 of these, I just haven' been able to finish them in time, This one may suffer that same fate, :D

I will continue that jack, but will tie back into the topic at hand in the end. Yes that is a Spartan in my Avatar, and on H3's release I won't be able *cough* to make it into work *cough* that day, ;) I had a blast on the Beta and found it to be much easier to play than H2.

Cupid X is my gamertag, but it changes evry so often. I'll send you a friend request tonight.

Yeah, I know that I should be entering into these things, but there is always something coming up to take my time, so they get half finished and that's it. Maybe I should start entering the half finished entries,
I'm going to try and get this finished tomorrow while I'm doing laundry the GF sleeps. Of course, I also have to get a Codex cover done this weekend so I'm not so sure there will be a finished entry into the contest, but I'll try.

We are only half way to the deadline, so still plenty of time. Speaking of which, I need to go finish painting my entry. Just finished priming the shell last night. Might actually enter this one (it'll be anonymous, so no one will know which one is mine anyways  )

Just a quick note for everyone.

To help me make a better card for your piece, if you can take a photo of the piece with as solid of a background color as you can, i dont care what color just try to make it all the same, you could lay your piece on a bed sheet or towel and take the picture, this helps me photoshop your image out.

Also send the picture to me via email to leifkicker@hotmail.com

dont forget to send the pictures of your pieces that cycoduck needs to him either!

I just got one from a heroscaper today it was way kewl! I cant wait so see more.

Time is ticking down, less than a day left to get the entries in. So far, only two entries submitted. Come on people, get crackin'.

Poll is up. Honestly, I was a little disappointed in the lack of entries for this poll, especially considering the extra added (card, destructible item, prize) and the extra time.

IAmBatman
July 18th, 2007, 01:14 PM
Tough choice!! Even with only 2 entrants, this contest is awesome. I went with number 2 in a close call because I prefered the specials on the card a bit. I'd be more than happy to have either one grace my battlefields, though. They both look awesome. :D

Since there are no "shades" in the game, I went with #1 in this close vote. (Also, the LEGO bat on top is a nice touch.)

Shades of Bleakwoode?

Shades of Bleakwoode? It's not their species, though. They're undead. Therefore, the mechanic needs to be more specific (Shades of Bleakwoode) or changed to fit the characteristic (undead).

IAmBatman
July 18th, 2007, 05:33 PM
I think the intent (Shades of Bleakwood) is clear, and it's an easy fix on the card.
I'm glad to see the voting's neck-in-neck, it really shows how excellent both of these are.

I'm curious as to what other people would have put down for special abilities for a mausoleum. I would think that it would be a building that nobody would really have control of, but could maybe benefit figures on either team depending on what figures were being used in the game.

Does anyone have any other ideas?

IAmBatman

I could see it being a zombie factory ... :D

Here are two abilities that could go hand in hand:

Wrath of Evil:
All Undead figures within four clear sight spaces of the mausoleum may add one to their attack and one to their defense.

Wrath of Good:
When the mausoleum is destroyed all Undead figures within four clear sight spaces receive one automatic wound.

NecroBlade
July 18th, 2007, 07:39 PM
I don't know about "Wrath of Good" as a name, but I think those abilities go very well together.

Shoot, Cycoduck, I thought for sure you were going to win. You were always just one vote ahead of me.

Great job, though. I'm glad that the voting was as close as it was because you did an awesome job.

You did an outstanding job as well. I thought I had it, but you pulled two votes sometime during the nite, I think, to beat me out. Cool thing is, Leifkicker is sending us each a card for our custom. We owe him a big thanks.

FYI

About a year ago, I purchased a custom terrain set from Leifkicker on ebay called the Ruins of Mort'Amian, complete with a custom figure he made.

Here's the figure with his tomb

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v462/cycoduck/Mausoleum/HPIM1896.jpg

That should answer the question on who Baron Mort'Amian is, in case anyone was wondering. And Necro, you are right, I should have further clarified Shades of Bleakwoode on the card, but I thought that 'shade' was enough of an answer, especially considering both the Shades of Bleakwoode and The Ghost of Baron Mort'Amian are, in my opinion, both shades. Either way, it was a fun contest, first one I could join up with. Hopefully, no one feels slighted that I joined, but, since it is anonymous for the polling, I don't think it made any difference.

IAmBatman

I don't think it made a difference either, especially since you lost. :D I did vote for you though, and it was a close, well fought battle between two very awesome pieces. Since these are pieces you guys throw together quickly, theoretically the layman (i.e. shlubs like me) should be able to make some of these themselves, right? I'd love to see some of the stuff made for these contests turned into tutorials for the less talented among us (again, shlubs like me).
Oh, and I'm super jazzed to see the next Mavel-centric contest! :D Any tutorials that come from that one will be getting plenty of love (from me if no one else) in the Marvel Custom TNT codex we're drumming up.

I may set up a tutorial on how I made my mausoleum in a few days, but in short, I just used LEGOs.

If you take a LEGO block and carve the edges a little with a razor blade, you get a really neat looking "brick". Lightly sanding the sides help add texture as well. Once I stacked them all together I painted it completely black with acrylic paint and then did a really light coating of gray over the top of that. Then a matte finish on top.

The entire thing is made from LEGOs (the blue ones that nobody likes using anyways) and hot glue. I'm thinking about doing some walls the same way. If you have some extra LEGOs (or MegaBlocks) lying around you ought to experiment with them.

For me, the best part about using LEGOs and hot glue is that the sculptures are always sturdy and they FEEL like actualy HeroScape products. And you can store it with the rest of your HeroScape stuff and not have to worry about it being crushed or broken.

Legos huh. Ingenious. I like it.
Mine was done with foam block, wood and styrene. I have a coffin for the mausoleum, but still adding the final touches for painting. I like yours, though, looks pretty cool. And fits the scale for heroscape perfectly (mine is probably too big).
