My son and a friend (both eight years old) had a game last night (first game for his friend). I will only relate the last moments. You have to guess who won the game.

The map (one MS): has a three hexes wide poisonous river in the middle. A wide and long bridge crosses the river (3 seven-hexes tiles tied together by binder clips) and steps on both sides connected to a short flat space and a flat starting zone. So it is like this:
Starting zone - flat area - steps - bridge - steps - flat area - starting zone.

The situation: My son has a healthy Charos on his side of the bridge, a healthy Thorgrim in his starting zone and a 1 life Drake (who just killed Mimring) in the stairs of his opponent. His friend has a healthy Krug on his side of the bridge (who just killed two Zetian Guards) but nothing else...

Just for the fun of it, guess who won the game?

Krug....Krug....Krug....Krug.....KRUG....KRUG!!!

of course it's going to be Krug, why else would you ask?

Ah! Some answers! :)

More details then...

My son wins initiative. He moves Charos towards Krug on the bridge but is still two hexes away. His friend move Krug away from Charos down the stairs and attack Drake...

I would attack Krug with Thogrim first, then bring in Charos, get the Defense bonus, then while Krug is occupied, get Drake in there and start in on Krug until either Drake or Krug perishes. Then Charos would finish the job on Krug.

But my guess is that you are going to tell us that Krug took them all out. Which I am sure is quite possible with his wounded smash activated. He is a mean, scary troll.

...and kills Drake. Only two dice +one for height. Double attack though.
Charos moves again to the last two hexes of the bridge (perpendicular to the bridge) and beside Krug who is on the first step, two hexes below. Here comes the attack with 6 dices (5+1 for height). Three wounds on poor Krug...

Here comes the final moments...

The way Charos is placed, Krug can't go back on the bridge (clever move by my son) so he attacks Charos twice with 5 dices (2+3 wounds). Two wounds only on Charos.
Back to Charos. Whamm! Four more wounds on Krug. Now Krug has only one life but 9 attack dices (first time with my playgroup. We have seen frequently Krug with 8 dices, never 9).
Krug turn and BOOM, Charos is dead. End of round. Krug and Thorgrim are the only ones left on the battle field.

This time, Krug wins initiative.
1- Krug is back on top of the bridge, Thorgrim runs for the stairs.
2- Krug crosses the bribge, Thorgrim reaches the bottom of the stairs.
3- Krug goes down half the stairs, Thorgrim ?
At that point, my son hesitated a lot. He knew he could'nt get higher than Krug and planned to run on flat ground. Then he realised he was the last to move this round. "I'm going to loose :( What if I confront Krug and hope to hurt him? I may even win initiative next round and attack again if I missed the first time..."
So here goes Thorgrim holding his sword firmly, decided to hold his ground. Thorgrim went on the first step below the huge bloodstained figure of Krug and gave everything he had. And WINS! One little wound and Krug is on the ground!

Needless to say both kids had a great evening!

And, even better, the brother of my son's friend (who is 15) will buy the game tomorrow! In a sense I won also!!!

Yay for the the little guys! I love twists like that in games. Looks like it's all over and then...BAM!!...Thorgrim pulls out a win.

It is nice of you to make this precision. Thank you Shakey_Snake.

This was my first battle report, and english is not even my first language!
I hope it was ok but most of all fun to read.

Good to see Krug make a show of it.

Sometimes it IS more fun to kick back and watch the kids play. :)

that was a cool battle report, even better when it came that close. That was a good move by the thorgrim player, realizing that.
