I agree, this forum needs a thread like this. It can be a directory of sorts.

You also might want to consider making catagories once more gets added.

Another one that I like to play every once in a while is a card game called maganic wars (http://www.maganicwars.com/). There are a few versions of it. They are working on an online multi-player version. I'm all for that, as the computer AI is real simple.

Nexus War (http://www.nexuswar.com/)
Outbreak (http://www.outbreakgame.com/)
Two games that sort-of spun-off of Urban Dead. Never played either of them myself, but since they were created with the intention of improving upon Urban Dead, I figured they might be worth a try for people that enjoyed Urban Dead.

Kingdom of Loathing (http://www.kingdomofloathing.com)
An interesting web-based MMORPG... I've been addicted to it lately. A large content/"balancing" "patch" has been added within the last few days, and everything still a little bit new to everyone, so there's really no better time to start. If you do start a character, send a message to my one character, Higardi, and I'll hook you up with a Cocoabo (http://kol.coldfront.net/thekolwiki/index.php/Cocoabo) familiar or a tiny bottle of absinthe (http://kol.coldfront.net/thekolwiki/index.php/Tiny_bottle_of_absinthe) (your choice, although the absinthe is more limited), eh?

Adventure Quest (http://www.battleon.com)
Well.... it's a flash RPG'ish game. It was fun for a couple day'ish, but I quickly got bored of it. Can't really suggest it too much, but it's there. It's been a while since I've played it, so it might have changed some...

I'll have to give Nexus a try

Kingdom of loathing is fun, but it got repititive to me quickly though on the good side they keep yer acct active forever..mine still werks and it's gotta be 4 or 5 yrs old.

Adventure quest was also fun for a few hours but again it got repetitive once again.

Voyage Century looks pretty good I may give it a try.
Voyage Century is by far the best free MMORPG I've ever played and I highly recommend it.

A couple notes:
* It's a conversion, so some of the text is a bit "Engrish", but it's been improving a lot over the last couple months.
* The business model is the typical cash shop structure, but you can easily play the full game without spending any real money.
* There's a lot of variety in how you can build your character, so it doesn't get boring as fast as many other games. I.e. you can concentrate on your combat skills if you like that, but alternatively you could omit that entirely and focus on trading, or ship-building, or several other activities instead and never lay a hand on a weapon if you don't want to. And you can switch easily between these activities.
* You can grind mobs for weapon XP if you really like doing that, but unlike games like Silk Road, that's not the "main thing" to do in the game, and isn't necessary.
* It's not over run by people running bots, though there are a number of things you can leave your character doing afk. Such activities however do not generally detract from people who are actively playing.
* For an MMORPG, there isn't a heck of a lot of player interaction, unless you have RL friends who also play, so if that's what you're looking for, maybe try something else.

Have fun!

I don't have a link handy, but an old free RPG was Dink Smallwood. Yes, as the name implies it was a little cheeky. Not the highest quality RPG, but it was free and you could customize/modify it. There were a few fan mods that I tried that were really good.

Wesnoth is an awesome game (runs on Linux too which is a plus!) but I do have one issue with the game. Ranged attacks. There is no use of tactics with placement of ranged units which is a lot of the fun in Heroscape for me. I do understand why the developers haven't done it (it's in the FAQ) and it doesn't take away at all from the quality of the game, which is amazing. Just something I wish was different.

This is the first thread I've put on "notify". Lots of good stuff. Thanks!

Telengard, that did throw me at first. But I have played that a whole lot, and after a while the strengths of ranged versus melee units becomes a lot more clear, and requires as much tactical maneuvering as Scape, but with a completely different approach.

But it did really mess with me at first.

Tactical moving is right, especially if you're like me, obsessively avoiding even a single loss. I swear, I restarted the scenario where you have to get Konrad to the dwarf cave at least a dozen times.

I usually always build about 4-5 troops per level whose only purpose is to block enemies and take hits and eventually die. That's the only way to beat some levels. You must sacrifice troops.

It's a shareware that you can play the first map for free, but the other 9999 ( I think it's that many) and online multi-player are only available by buying it for $20. It is small (I think only a 1 MB download) and the graphics are really basic, but this is a sweet game. It has 4 difficulty levels for the AI, and they get tough. Simple game that's great for strategy types.

An old Skool shooter which mixes the best bits of Robotron, Asteroids & Tempest.

Based on Geometry Wars the secret bonus game concealed within Project Gotham Racing 2 for the Xbox. (Or to be strictly accurate, not unlike its sequel, Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved, which runs on the Xbox 360 and is the flagship title of the machine's online service, Xbox Live Arcade.) In itself that'd be passingly interesting - particularly for anyone who didn't want to fork out Ł300 for a state-of-the-art, all-singing, all-dancing Xbox 360 in order to play a vector-graphics Robotron game.

http://worldofstuart.excellentcontent.com/grid/gw2.jpg

The game became so popular the designer had to remove the link to the download.

Email from BizarreCreations:

"We're beginning to feel the effects of the Geometry Wars clones on our sales via Microsoft now and are beginning a process to begin to more robustly protect our copyright and intellectual property.
Therefore, I'd like to ask you in an amicable fashion to stop infringing our IP and pull the game 'Grid Wars' from the internet for download.
I hope you understand and are able to do this without us having to take further steps."

Nice! (http://worldofstuart.excellentcontent.com/grid/GridWars54.zip)

Hello everyone. I found this one a week or so ago.

http://www.bitefight.org

You play either a werewolf or a vampire. You hunt, work, level up, upgrade your hideout, join clans, etc. All the actions are timed, so you could 'work for 8 hours' before you go to bed, and wake up to a paycheck, for example. You can also 'infect' other players by getting them to join by clicking on your personal link, like this-

http://s6.bitefight.org/c.php?uid=77904
That's mine, so of course I would prefer you joined that way, lol.

It is browser-based, so no downloads, and you can log in from anywhere.

Protector (http://www.kongregate.com/games/undefined/protector) is an excellent tower defense game with RPG elements that carry over from map to map. There's 23 maps in all and I want to say something like 20 upgrades you can make across the campaign.

Instead of towers, you have characters that you level up during a specific map. You can choose to level their overall power, or their unit-specific special effect (criticals, freezing, poison, that kind of stuff).

If tower defense is your cup of tea, prepare to waste the rest of your life. This is the best offering I've seen so far.

A few games I have played in the past that come from Nexon. They currently have 4 games that are completely free to play. These games include:

MapleStory - A 2D MMORPG. Customize your character, make friends, defeat monsters, level up! This game has bosses, quests, jobs and job advancements, and more!

Audition - Similar to a DDR game with your fingers, Audition allows you to customize your character, level up, and compete against other in dance competitions.

KartRider - I have to admit, this is somewhat of a MarioKart wannabe, but it is still a fun time-killer game to play. Consists of Time trial races, or a traditional MarioKart style racing game with weapons, boosts, fun courses, and more.

Mabinogi - Nexon's most recent addition to their lineup of games, Mabinogi is a 3D adventure game. I have not yet tried this game yet, but you can put your trust in Nexon that it will be a fun-filled adventure game that many other people play.

Thanks! It's been great playing some of the old games again. Have my nintendo still but don't pull it out. Forgot how much fun Punch-Out and Super Dodge Ball were. I highly recommend Goonies II. Was a great adventure game that I think was kind of a sleeper. It will take some time but, they should have codes or saves etc to continue your game later. Also, personally I think the best Metal Gear was the original which is here. Will admit some of my fav's aren't that great like Ikari Warriors and Rolling Thunder. I'm sure it's years of being spoiled by newer games.

Just a quick FYI. Apparently the www.everyvideogame.com website was recently updated for the first time in 3 years. You can still access the Nintendo games without signing up for the forum by clicking Arcade on the top right side of the forum board, and then as a menu option it says NES or Flash. Not sure if anyone mentioned Gametap. Lots of free games there. Hitman was (mights still be) free. They have the newer tomb raider games and Psychonauts, Thief, Warlords, Deus Ex for free too. Over 100 games from their library are free - and these are mostly actual releases of commercial games.
http://www.gametap.com/play/free.html

List format (130 Games) : http://www.gametap.com/play/browse/browseCatalog.do?filterType=2

Actually, it's $60 a year for the full membership with access to their full library (They just added Descent 2 - 3 and Freespace are coming soon) and our family has found it well worth it. Ted Turner is apparently behind this, so its like cable for gamers and NOT illegal stuff.

There are over 1000 games from the Atari to current PC and console releases: http://www.gametap.com/play/browse/browseCatalog.do

Minions (http://www.casualcollective.com/games/Minions)

This game is just too much fun. If you get into it, prepare to spend hours of your life at a time dedicated to it.

Minions is multiplayer team based game where you and the other players control tanks, and your mission is to strategize with your team to take out your opponents tanks, their turrets, and their base to win. The only annoying thing is when other people leave or freeze up the screen for a few seconds, but I beg for you guys to give this a try.

I have so much fun playing this game. I don't pay, but that doesn't mean you can't win.

The Menagerie was retired some time ago and from the ashes came The Third Dawn (www.thirddawn.freeforums.org/).

It's a forum based RPG, but this time with a true combat system that utilizes strategy and tactics. It's still in the final stages of development, but plenty of 'Scapers are on there!

Probably one of the most addicting games I've played recently. It takes a while to beat.

Sonny 2 is out. In my opinion, the first was nothing to write home about. This one has even more depth with 3 different types of styles, completely differing from the others. Its filled with hilarious dialouge and truly is high quality as free games go. the link is here.

Fill It (http://ww12.freearcade.com/Fillit.jav/Fillit.html?s=highscore) on Freearcade.com (http://ww12.freearcade.com/). Super addicting but only 10 levels. I have yet to beat it myself.

In this, you fly your little spaceship around and try to trap little bird things in side boxes that you make. A little hard to explain, just play it.

XGen Studios (http://www.xgenstudios.com/games/) has some pretty fun games. A personal favorite of mine is Brotherhood of Battle (http://www.xgenstudios.com/game.php?keyword=bob). You do need to sign up for BOB, but it is free, and it's only a username and password.

Just found a new site http://www.bestoldgames.net/eng/.

Has a very large selection of old school computer games, and as far as I can tell, they are all full versions.
