I got this idea awhile ago:

So, heroscape costs a lot. customizing heroscape figures is hard work and doesn't always look good becuase people have bad sculpting or painting skills. But who here can draw? Or even doodle? I know I can. What if you could draw a figure and play a game with it. A simple set of guidlines would be the only thing required. People could draw there own figures, get their group to approve them andplay a whole game with homemade figures. The board would be divided into 1 in. x 1in. squares and the figures propped up with a piece of paper put perpendicular to the drawing. There could be hand-drawn equiptment that they could "pick up" and slide into a slit in their hand.

What do you guys think? Would you play this game?

2D heroscape?

No offence but, doesn't that defeat the purpose of the game?

StickFigureScape

I think I could get into it as a parody of Heroscape.

Not really something I'd be up for.

His idea had nothing to do with heroscape. He's talking about a whole new game.

No, not 2d, not heroscape, not 2d heroscape.

you draw out a figure that you want, cut out the picture, cut another piece of paper the same height, and tape the second peice to the first at a 90 degree angle so the "figure" can stand up.

It's a simple way to make cool looking figures for those of us who can doodle and draw but don't have the skills to sculpt and/or paint. Not in any way, a supplement or replace ment of heroscape.

I played a freeform game in Junior High...

Pencil Shooters aka Doodle War

Players: 2 or more
Equipment: 1 piece of paper and 1 pencil per person

Each player gets a portion of the paper as their starting zone. With 2 players, pick the short sides. With 4, each gets a corner. Draw some terrain, e.g. a river going down the middle, some hills, some bunkers.

Agree to an army size. Each player draws their army in their own zone. Try to make all the doodles the same size. Sample army:

1 chopper
1 tank
1 officer
8 soldiers

Decide who goes first. On your turn, you can either move or shoot.

To move, pick a doodle. Hold your pencil straight up, with a single finger on the eraser and the pencil point on the doodle. Carefully lower the eraser to the page - there will come a point where it will start to "slip" - that's when you push it gently in the direction you want to move. You will thus make a line. Where it ends, that's where you move to. (Practice makes perfect)

To shoot, same deal, except your doodle stays put and if the line crosses anything, that's a HIT. Boom, whatever you hit is dead. Draw a little blow-up doodle.

Take turns moving and shooting until only one doodle survives.

Yay, fun!
