I moved from Richmond a couple of years ago. I worked at Circuit City's corporate headquarters and lived on the west end close to Short Pump. I miss the four Targets, the two Toys R Us, the three Wal-marts, etc. I don't have anyone to play with now.

I'd like to have more people around the area to play HS with. I don't play nearly as much as I'd like. I'm finding it hard to find people.

yeah. i have a gropu of 5 people that own MS, 1 that wants a MS and 1 that has a brother that plays. We're all under 20. I'm 17, the guy who formed this group, and am the second oldest in the group. The oldest (also the newest) in the group is 19
Roufus
July 9th, 2006, 02:33 PM
I'm not against playing with younger dudes, as long as it doesn't look weird or anything.
19 is only a 4 year difference.
I guess it depends on the maturity level of the group as a whole.
If you all are going to be drinking and doing drugs and carrying on I wan't nothing to do with it, regardless of age.
K/H_Addict
July 9th, 2006, 02:36 PM
nah, we're all clean (to my knowledge). some of us can be immature at times, but otherwise, were pretty mature. I guess it depends more on your perception of "maturity"
Roufus
July 9th, 2006, 02:56 PM
As long as you are all decent people it shouldn't be an issue.
I'm all fine with joking aorund and carrying on. Not that big a deal with me.
Just nothing like.... pornographic or degrading or other such ugliness.
But when you get my age, hanging out with younger people can become dangerous. Things like 'contributing to the delinquency of a minor' tend to be a factor where they weren't before.
Say that I came over, and we were having fun and playing, and then one of your buddies shows up late, blitzed drunk. and then the police show up. I'm the only one over 21. I'm going to be blamed for it.
Just being precautious, nothing wrong with that.
If you are all decent guys, it's not an issue.

hey,im the youngest in the group (15) and some of us can be a little immature cough*k/h addict*cough ,but overall we are ez ppl to get along with. We dont do drugs or drink or anything so we clean. We are down in Henrico county. So we need to set a date to play cause i really wanna play against ppl on this board.

PoF and I are thinking about hosting a demo game or event or something at a local hibby shop around the corner from my house. I have absolutely no details about it except that it will most likely be held on a saturday.
I am not even sure if the hobby shop would allow us to do that, or if they would charge us.

Well, if anyone wants to have a VA vs MD, we could do it at my house. It's pretty darn close to the border of VA and MD.
I've only been able to play with my 9 year old son on a regular basis. My wife is becoming disenchanted with it since she is not big on strategy games (to her, even Stratego is too much strategy), and my 7 year old daughter only likes to play for one game at a time, and only once every couple of weeks. I think it would be fun to play with someone closer to my age... or at least higher than elementary school (don't get me wrong, I love playing HS with my son).

Hey josh, what about doing this during our 4.5 day weekend for thanksgiving? TG is on a thursday, that day and friday we have off, and the wednesday before it is a half-day, so that gives us (me) wednesday to set up, and thursday (maybe), friday, saturday, and sunday to play.

Okay, about that. I just talked to one of the managers there. She said that it is free, and all i have to do is supply the gaming materials (such as terrain, figs and dice etc). She told me to call the day-time manager for more info, so i got one of his business cards and am going to call this weekend. They told me that they have a group of people that come every other saturday to play BattleTech, but other than that they don't really have anyone in there. Sunday would work best for me, or a saturday that isn't one of the every other saturdays the battletech group plays (they just played this past saturday, just to give you guys an idea of their rotation).
Hopefully this weekend imma geta chance to call the day-time manager and talk to him and find something out, and will post details when i do.

Hi VA people! I just wanted to let you know I am trying to judge interest level for having a tourney in Cincinnati, OH the first or second Saturday of Dec. Cincinnati is a 4+ hour drive from the VA border if you travel I-64 to US-52 to OH-32. I just drove that route to NC last weekend so I know it well :-). I am not sure if there is another faster route depending on what part of VA you live in.
Please mark your interest level in this thread http://heroscapers.com/community/showthread.php?t=3556

Okay, i sent PM's out to everyone that posted here about a possible get together, and only one person responded, so i'm going to goo off of the date that he gave me.
Dabluesman says he should be available the weekend of the 18th next month (november), but the 18th (saturday) is one of the weekends that the battletech group plays, so i will plan this for the 19th, unless there are any objections. You other guys, PM me with info about whether you can come or not, and what days work for you, and my playgroup will try and arrange a date that works for everyone.
If this works as i'd like it to, there might even be a new retailer here in richmond eventually.

Hey K/H_Addict, I just caught your post now that I'm back on after you woke me up from my life. I'm the ripe OLD age of 30, as of March 15th this year. Yes, Beware the Ides of March!!!
Hopefully having a crotchedy old geezer coming down to Richmond won't cramp your style.
I'll probably get into town Friday night and make a weekend of it. I'll have to boogie when it starts getting dark so we can get the kiddos back into bed since they will have school the next day. Let me know what time you'd like to shoot for to kick things off and I'll be there.
You mentioned I should bring my figs. What about terrain? Will I need to cart that down, or just the figs?
-John
K/H_Addict
October 29th, 2006, 12:52 AM
Probably only your figs. I have 4 MS to use, and PoF has about 3 or for to use, so we should have plenty. Only terrian we could possibly use is specialty terrain like road or snow, but it's not that big of a deal. 3 RttFF usually proves to be enough.
I plan on being there when they open to set up, and we'd probably have to be finishing up the game round 4:45 to give us time to demolish and re pack and leave by 6 when they close, so dark sunday shouldn't be too much of a problem.
I'll keep you posted with details both VIA PM and this thread as i gather them! I'm looking forward to this game!

Just called them to confirm their hours for sunday:
12-5. Josh, you and i will be getting ther as close to 12 as possible to start setting up. I plan on having 2 different maps set up for other people. Right now there will be 4 of us, with a potential 2 more.
We will be using 2 maps built by cavie. I will post them here when i can. I uploaded them to the DL section, but they need to be approved first. They are called Beyond the Cliffs and The Mountain Top. They both use 2 MS each; one uses a RttFF and a VW.
I'd imagine since we'll only have 3 hours tops to play we'll be doing some small armies like maybe 1000 max, so be prepared for such games. Points should not exceed the area of 800-1000

Hey, DBM, one quick question to avoid time consumption on sunday:
Do you have any house rules you like to use?
We have one, but it's simply a modified climbing/falling rule. Instead of the official ruling where if a cliff is equal to or higher than the height of the figure, they may not climb it and take a wound from falling, we play that it has to be greater than. If it is equal to we say that they are doing a pull-up sort of action to get up, IE reaching their arms up.

It isn't until Sunday, so you still have time to make it if you don't mind the drive. I'm going to make the drive from Sterling, so you would have just a tad less of a drivetime than me (you're in Centerville, which us just west of Fairfax on 66, right?).

Since my main opponents are my 7 year old and my 9 year old, my house rules are more like "don't step on the pieces" and "you have to do your homework first". Other than that, I just follow the rulebook. Your house rule sounds fine to me.
Personally, I think we should play where you get to collect the money pot everytime you hit Free Parking... Oh, wait a minute...

Actually, last night I thought of one that I do use. We generally play with enough order markers to fill up each card once, so we have the normal 1,2,&3, then all the rest are x's. This is optional, so if you guys don't want to do that, I'll be fine.

Not I, said the fly. Best I know of is Richmond. If you want, you could take the plunge and come up and play tomorrow. It should be less of a drive than mine, so I know its do-able.

[quote=K/H_Addict]Hey, DBM, one quick question to avoid time consumption on sunday:
Do you have any house rules you like to use?
quote]
Actually, last night I thought of one that I do use. We generally play with enough order markers to fill up each card once, so we have the normal 1,2,&3, then all the rest are x's. This is optional, so if you guys don't want to do that, I'll be fine.
-John
that's kinda cool. With 5 MS (maybe more) worth of markers, and such small armies, i could see us trying that out.

Awesome games everyone!
We were able to set up 3 maps in about an hour, play 2 games on each, and take them all down and pack up in about 20 minutes. I definately plan on doing this again sometime, hopefully when more people from the boards can make it. If you could, i would like for those interested to post days (preferably a saturday) they are available, and i'll work with it from there

Boy it's a small world.
I was checking out the entries for my contest this morning at school seeing who liked what, etc. and some kid whom i barely know comes up and goes "Is that Heroscape?" i'm like yeah and he walks away. It took me a minute to realize that he actually knew what i was looking at.
Then, i found out he also plays Kingdom Hearts too, so he gained massive respect from me.
He says he hasn't played HS since like august because he has nobody to play with. i'm like hello? i play!

Sakhmet, we don't live too far away from Short Pump. About 20 minutes, given traffic/weather conditions. I'd be up for a game in your area; Just need a lot of advanced notice, since no one in our playgroup drives yet.
As for the figure storage/transportation:
I have all my figures in a small toolbox. I also have about 6 MS at home, and on the rare occasions i need to travel with it all, i can generally fit most of it all in one large rubbermaid tub that you can find in walmart.

I got my first MS for xmas in 2004 (almost my second anniversary), but didn't actually start to play regularly until the following summer.
I was watchin TV one day and saw a commercial and thought "that looks cool" and put it on my xmas list, expecting it to get looked over and not recieve it. Well, here comes Christmas Morning and i find my first MS. I read the rules, explain them to my dad, we play a game, he didn't like it, so i play with my sisters boyfriend, who also didn't like it. So it gets packed away until school lets out in mid June. I get bored one day during summer; Some kid who i hate now (Jordan) comes over and i teach him and PoF how to play; With in a week, they both have their own MS. Then i teach my best friend how to play and he gets his MS too. I've played regularly ever since.

It's not that he can't join; I joined using AOL 7.0 (we have since upgraded to comcast high speed DSL). It's just that it's not worth it, since he almost never gets the chance to use the computer. Greetings!!
Being somewhat experienced in other games (D&D, various MMORPG's, Starwars Mini's, LARPG, etc.), I recently bought my 'noob' boyfriend Heroscape for Christmas. He's hooked! My work here is done! :) Our 5-year-old is even keeping up with master scenarios with a little help.
Together we have bought at least a dozen small expansions (hard to find since stores are still picked clean from the holidays) and I've taken a renewed interest in customizing my own mini's. Problem is, just the two of us isn't cutting it.
Both of us are looking for other scapers, new and/or experienced, who would be interested in getting together. Richmond and Fredericksburg are our two closest cities. Anyone interested?

this is all I own:
1-MS
1-drones and minions
1-heroes of trollsford
1-greeks and vipers
1-warriors and soulborgs
1-soulborgs
1-RttFF
So I can use just about anything. I don't have any particular favorites just yet, maybe after a few more games.

For those of you in the Richmond area: Where do you guys normally play? Do you go somewhere, like Hobbytown or One Eyed Jacques, or do you play at someone's house? The end of the first semester at school is coming up, so I'm going to be up to my eyeballs in grading, but I will have some good free time when exams come around.

MMmmmm...exams. i'm a senior this year.
Yeah, as PoF stated, we usually play at someone house (until i moved it was usually my house), but we have set up a game at hobby town on broad street. I've never been to One Eyed Jacques. IIRC, thats down in carytown, right?

For the Fredericksburg/Stafford Crowd! Ever been to The Game Vault?
I didn't even know this place existed until this past weekend, bad location...hidden behind another shopping center. It's located in the Five Mile Fork Centre, corner of Cherry Rd and Old Plank Rd. Not only do they sell HS (a little pricey), but they have tournaments scheduled for Tuesday nights.
Here's the details for the next scheduled tournament.
Date: Tuesday, January 30th
Fee: $3.00
Prize: 1 Small Pack of Figures (Priced $13.95-$16.95)
Time: 6pm
Details: 30 minute rounds
200 point random assortment
6 players minimum - the number of players determines the prizes.
If you need to borrow figures they will be loaned out from my personal collection on a first come, first serve basis.
Customs are allowed, but need to be approved!
Me and my boyfriend might go check it out. If you guys are interested you should check it out too!

Man, if fredricksburg wasn't so far away, and they didn't do these on Tuesdays. tuesdays are usually school nights, and i typically wouldn't expect to have my parents drive out that far for me to play a game, especially on a school night.

*In case it matters, I'm 26 and my bf is 30....we don't plan on growing up anytime soon :)
Welcome aboard! I'm in Sterling, but I'll drive to Sterling for a good match.

Hey, I'm in Richmond looking for some players. I was just taking stock of all of my HS stuff, and I need to play more to justify having so much. Anyone interested in meeting sometime this week (12/26-12/30) for a game or two? I go back to work next week, but I could always play in the evenings.
Let me know if you get an open window coming up and maybe we can play. I can make the drive to Richmond or you can come over to my place in Sterling since I have plenty of space there.

You think you could convince someone to give you a lift to Richmond even once? Maybe someone going to King's Dominion this spring/summer would drop you off for the day at the hobby shop. I'm sure we could work around your schedule if you could manage getting a ride.

How does April 14 (saturday) sound to everyone? I believe that is the saturday of spring break for me and PoF, and i also think that it should be a free day at the hobby shop. As i said before, every other saturday, there is a group of people that go up there for a game of Battletech, and i think that 4-14 should be one of the alternate saturdays they don't come. We still have quite a bit of time before planning is crucial, but you can't say i didn't give notice ahead of time here.

Yeah, 4 tables at 6x3 (roughly) each. can be combined for a 12x6 (roughly) playspace, or other combinations. Perhaps i should post an events thread, just to see what to expect participation-wise from us?

Thats the good part about heroscape. Even if you are new, as long as you have a basic understanding of the game, you can beat even the players that have been playing the longest. You just have to out-think them. On a timeline, i have been playing HS longer than anyone in my usual playgroup, but i almost never win, because i tend to make simple mistakes, such as not looking at things in a wide perspective. If there's multiple objectives, i tend to focus only on one, where my opponents take the whole thing, and mistakes like that cause me to lose.
I'm 18, BTW (19 in spetember), and my playgroup ranges from ages 10 (or so; 6th grade) to 19
