I made this lava about a week ago and I made the castle ruins today. Custom terrain is my second favorite part of Heroscape (just behind actually playing of course). Just wanted to share this with the community.

Here is my busted castle. I got this idea from Leif Kicker's ebay listing.

Lava and castle ruins together:

Updated Busted Castle-6/10. I repainted the battlements and wall walk before adding a little green flock to the ladder and castle walls.

Just thought I'd go ahead and put my flocked terrain here too. It was originally in Grishnakh's thread.

The only thing about it that's not absolutely wonderful is how much lighter the wall walk and battlements are than the wall. It doesn't really look that bad though, I'm just trying to give you constructive criticism on a near-perfect job.

Hey I appreciate it. I will go back over it and make them closer in color. Thanks for the compliments and criticism.

I like them alot...however...I think you took a little too much off of the bottom of the castle. I cannot see structurally how the 2 taller pillars are still standing...perhaps other angles might reveal this

The weights of the two taller towers balance each other out, but I can see how it can seem unrealistic. I will take that into account if I make other similar castle ruins.
Thanks for the comment Onacara.
And Billtog, I repainted the battlements and wall walk to match the castle walls. I'll post those sometime next week, hopefully along with another piece of custom or two.

When I first read that comment I was thinking "chain" was some sort of message board lingo that I didn't know.
But then after reading it through three more times I see that you mean using a small chain instead of a piece of yarn to hang the Tarn from. That's a good idea (although I don't know where I'd find such a small chain), but the terrain has been sent off to a distant land-New Jersey. Thanks for the comments.

HSisforcoolkids, you have some great stuff. The castle with the tarns around it is amazing as well as the Jandarian temple. I also like the way you painted that minion of Utgar, the black skin looks awesome. I had a question, how did you chip those columns to make it look destroyed and forgotten? I tried to do that to a set that I have, but discovered it is much harder than I thought. I have a whole new respect and admirance for custom terrain creators.

I think I got the idea from Grishnakh-check out his thread for great ideas: http://www.heroscapers.com/community/showthread.php?t=448. I used a Xacto knife to chip it down. The cracks were made with a hammer.

I have checked out Grishnak's thread, all 17 pages of it. I used an Xacto knife as well, maybe it just wasn't sharp enough, but I could barely cut the columns. I'll see if I can get a new blade then try again.

I got tired of having to deal with all of the flocking coming off of my terrain, so for a cheap price I sold it to a friend who wanted to expand his collection.
I had some pieces painted from several months ago, waiting to be flocked. I didn't want to waste them so I just added in some lighter colors to break up the solidness of the base paint. Renquist's water inspired my water, though I took a slightly different approach with mine. I'm really pleased with the finished product and the way a whole map of painted terrain looks.
