View Full Version : Is this any reason I should be winning?

Ok so lately I've been on a 5-0 run with the same 400 point army (Q9, Laglor, and the Kravs) and haven't lost once, I was barely touched, the only thing that hit me was Charos, and I was wondering if this army is really good, or am I getting really lucky?

Well, no matter what kind of army you use, luck will play some part, i.e. if you never roll skulls, then you will not win. However, putting that aside, you have a really solid army there, so it is definately a contributing factor.

It's a great army. Most importantly, it is an army which your opponent needs to intelligently counter. Well crafted

That army is very strong indeed. It can outrange nearly every figure and Q9 and the Krav are very difficult to kill from range. The Airborne Elite dropping and winning initiative can give you some problems. They can either engage and kill the krav, or take height and wound Q9 with 4 attacks of 4. Brunak carrying NGS as mentioned above is also solid, as your attacks aren't really that big and may have trouble getting through their big defense. I suppose Drake could be a problem too. Q9 would have to get within 6 spaces to attack him (or Laglor within 7 i guess), but you would be closer that you would want to be to Drake. Lastly, it is very possible for Braxas to swoop in and kill all 3 Krav in one turn. If you have multiple Order Markers on them (as I'm sure you do sometimes, they really give you the best bang for your buck when they're all alive), you could be caught in a round where you have to skip a couple turns.

However, all of those things require a lot of luck to pull off. Your army is very solid and consistent.

Yes, it is a good army; funrun and I won the Dallas Team tourney with this:

funrun
q9
Krav

Rych
Nakita
Laglor
Rats

We had one game where we only lost one figure. Laglor's friendly range enhancement makes already stellar units like Krav and Nakitas just sick.

What would you recommend against the army mentioned in the first post Ry?

Orcs. That's a cure-all. You can beat anything with orcs.

The original army this thread was about is solid and the army Ry made could probably be stopped by Syvvaris or Kaemon Awa.

I think hordes are great....maybe a 4th Mass horde? Hmmmm....

My tournament army might work:

2x Knights, 2x Mass 4th, Gilbert, AE (although you might want to swap them for Drake).

If you have the terrain cover to hide while you close in, I'd think about a Minion based army.

Another idea along the same theme is:

100 Ornak
110 Brunak
130 Kee-Mo-Shee
040 Blade Gruts

400 TOTAL

Use Ornak's Red Flag of Fury ability to activate Brunak, carrying Kee-Mo-Shee, then engage with Kee on the same turn. Also, Kee's Mind Shackle and Toxic skin both bypass armor, and so are good against Q9.

Since when did this become a place to post competitive armies?

Nope - only mindshackle passes the armor, soulborgs are immune to Toxic Skin. Also, the reason NGS is so great vs. Q9 is his combo of high defense and high life. I've seen him go toe-to-toe with Q9 and win more than once. KMS has no such advantage and would likely be rapidly shredded by the Queglix Gun.

In true rock-paper-scissor fashion, EOV would be a great choice. I'd probably use them to either take out the krav quickly or the monkey. Just to make a fun random mess of an army, you could throw in the Kozuke, ninjas, and DED (no love for him recently). All those units have some aspect of getting around laglor's boost, and might be a nice melee match up for that ranged army. Even though the units lacks synergy, they are pretty fun units to play - you just have to be careful to use some of them at the right time.

Just as something fun to try- you could do 2 squads of the shades. They'd close the gap quickly and freak you out when they land next to Q9 or Laglor. K, I'm done rambling.

Ah, I forgot about the Soulborg immunity to Toxic Skin.

Well, a similar combo could be arranged with Ornak/Brunak/NGS. Hopefully by the time NGS goes down, Q9 would be damaged enough for Brunak to finish the job.

100 Ornak
110 Brunak
090 Ne-Gok-Sa
080 2x Blade Gruts
