Cool trailer, but I'd be interested to see what the actual game looks like.

I got the impression that was what it was. There was a scene where the general tells the troops in the field, "Help is on the way," then uses his hand to circle the helicopters and pointed them to where to go, followed by a, "We're on our way."
Great for you guys that love RTS. I hate RTS. Best wishes.

EGM has an interesting article about it. I suppose it's still on the newstands.
It is sort of a RTS, but it combines elements from other games as well. There's not really a lot of resource issues to deal with, and you don't really get a "god view" of the map. You see what your troops see or what you can get from sat photos or whatever....it's a bit more "realistic" that way I suppose. Kind of like the next couple steps up the chain of command from being squad leader in Rainbow Six or Ghost Recon....you can move tanks, helicopters, missiles, etc around however you want, and organize pretty eleaborate tactics. Read the article and search around....there's a lot out there on it.

So it's like the MechCommander series, then?

So it's like the MechCommander series, then?
I'm not familiar enough with that series to speculate. I know there are a lot of RTS elements in Endwar, but it seems like there's also a lot of Clancy-game elements borrowed from the success of other games in that franchise. It's being designed from the ground up for consoles, if I recall the article correctly, so there's supposedly none of the awkwardness that always tags along when you convert a PC game to the XBOX.
There are no Mechs in the game, at least not in any pictures I've seen....it's grounded a bit more in the here and now. Very near future...I think it's a three or four-way war between the US, Russia and/or China, and the EU....I could be wrong on those factions. All factions have basically the same types of units with slight differences, and the number of units overall is fairly small compared to most games of this sort. It's meant to be geared towards fast action and not boring build up.
Apparently you can play the game over live. I don't recall all the details, but there was something about a persistant game world. As in, the US takes Paris, and so now Paris belongs to the US until the Russians come take it from them. Theortetically one faction could control the whole world after a while if they were really successful, in which case the admins would start a new campaign and everyone would fight again....it could take months for one faction to "win" each game of world war III from the sound of it. It sounds cool in theory, but the article didn't flesh it out all that much and neither have any of the small blurbs I've found around the net.

No, you didn't say there were mechs, but you asked if it was like MechCommander. Not being familiar with that series, I don't know if it contains Mechs or not (I assume it would based on the name) but I wanted to make clear that there don't appear to be any mechs in Endwar based on current info in an effort to answer your question the best I can.

Stop helping, or start... It's your choice really, but what you're doing now is just not working.
