ok, i know others have talked about how cool these trees looked. so i called Fundamentals Toy Store back in my home town in ohio. great store. lots of open toys to play with! i know ken carries playmobil stuff. and purchased a couple of trees. they came in saturday, so we set up a quick field and played some. the smaller trees are great for size, but i'm a tad worried about the larger pine tree. here are some photo's with figures for scale:::

as you can see in the above photo, the large pine has a wide base (fills a 7 tile). i found it easier put it on the table and "build" around it. took the map apart a little to show how it sits.

the small pines fit easily onto a single tile, while the small Deciduous Tree setup fits on a 5 tile base, and the tall one fits easily on a 3 base.

TALLLLLLLLL pine...

for the price (about $10 for the pines) i don't know if it's worth it, but i may still order more just to break up the land some. they did do a wonderful job breaking up "line of sight"...

Wonder what the pines would look like with a darker wash...

Finally Penguins with machine guns!

don't i wish. those are Playmobil Penguins also. i asked ken to ship me a pack of them as well (8), now all i ahve to do is figure out how to arm them. hummmm.

Wonder what the pines would look like with a darker wash...

a lot better i'd wager. then again, the deciduous trees look really neat when you take the "leaves" off them and put them in the Lava setting. burned up old dead trees and all. maybe a darker wash on all of them would really bring out some detail. shame i'm not a good painter.

Hatamot looks perfect with those trees! Thanks for sharing.

i had him standing under that tall pine the entire battle, looking very royal. it was great. something impressive about him under the tallest tree on the field...

You could cut (gasp) the base of the large pine tree off and glue the tree to a hex. That would make it easier to place on maps.

I like them, especially the tall one.

I especially like the smaller pine. The penguins are fun, too. Have you made custom cards for them?

i havn't made any custom cards for hte Penguins. i dont' have the skill to make customs. they are just there for show and to be annoying. actually, for annoying, i need to pick up some Seagull pin-figures from the local craft store and put them on small posts so they can "flock" over figures and annoy the heck out of people...

If you could get me a picture of one of those penguins, I could easily make a custom card for them.

I think my favorite thing there besides the trees which are awesome. Are the penguins. But where are there machine guns?

still working on that part. gotta hit the GIJoe stuff at wally world and pick up a few. i really need to find more, different style penguin figures though. maybe GIJoe will provide some other "toys" for the penguins though...

Yeah, just hot glue some GI Joe guns to their sides, and that should do it. Don't forget the bazooka  .

I purchased a few of my own Playmobil trees this past week
to see if I could make them look more like official HeroScape
trees. I did the leaves with a forest green wash, and the
trunks with a black wash. I don’t think they look too bad.
But to be honest, I don’t think they will work very well for
blocking line of sight. Unless your enemy is looking down
from a castle wall or is trying to target you with HUGE figure, these
don’t really do much except make your map look cooler.
But I think they would look really good sitting on the edge of a swamp.

The set that I purchased also comes with some rock formations that one might find useful:

This is the exact set that I purchased online:

The wash makes those trees look amazing! Now I want some even more.
