View Full Version : Heroscape Fantasy Draft- Results Are In! p. 14

As mentioned in the other thread, this is where you post your fantasy picks. Heroscaper Uprising has developed a spreadsheet to handle all picks and scoring, and he will be checking this thread regularly to enter new picks. Remember, only one submission is allowed per person, picks cannot be edited, and this thread is only for picks! Please post your three picks at the very top of your post, and feel free to say whatever you want below. Below is an example of a Heroscape Fantasy Draft selection. For a full explanation of the rules, please visit here: http://www.heroscapers.com/community/showthread.php?t=8512. These are the people from which you can pick:

Momo_The_Monkey - I've heard good things about the kid and I'm willing to give him a shot, especially since he hasnt been picked by to many yet.
jacob_jp - One of the members of the Columbus Crew. :D A great overall player and he will bring a tough army to beat.
Clarissimus - Well anybody spider_poison vouchs for can't be bad. Once again another player with a good reputation and few picks.

I hope this isn't considered off-topic but for those who might care, Ciciman, is actually my wife, Tracy. :) She's a new player, like myself, but she beats me about 1.5 times for every victory I get. She's able to see the basics very well whereas I'm still trying to learn every fig in the game and how to pull off each fig's special abilites and so forth.
This is an awesome idea, though, this fantasy draft thing. Especially for those who cannot attend the event! :D
PS. Thanks to whoever picked me. I'll do my best to not let you guys down! LOL

Yay! My roommate (skynight) and I and funrun have the same number of picks. That must mean something.
You're all a perfect ten in my mind, Rev. :rimshot:
Seriously though, here's a thought for those of you who have yet to make picks. Let's say Rychean rolls like a banshee, plays perfectly at the Con, but barely loses in the championship match. Wytefang plays okay in Indy and gets 8th. Who would you want on your team?
Rychean's worth= 120/19= ~6
Wytefang's worth= 50/3= ~17
It could be good to make some solid picks that will most likely finish in the top 8, but are you going to get 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in the contest by making the "safe" bets? Right now I see a gold mine in anyone with less than seven picks, but especially ChaosChild, Clarissimus, the Colombus crew, and Momo. Nobody knows much about Dragonmaster or Ciciman, but if either of them finishes in 4-8th place and only one person picks them, I wouldn't doubt if that person wins solely because of that pick.

Exactly. So quite picking me people. I picked me and your making me worth less and less. Even when I kick azz and take this thing down. I'll only be worth 1 point by the time this is done. :P
But no matter what happens at this Gen Con. I'll still be the Valkarie General Champ 2 years in a row. (because there isn't any General tourny this year :) )

Here are my picks for the Heroscape Fantasy Draft:
Momo_The_Monkey
MattsterTruckRally
jacob_jp
I have personally played each one of these guys in tournament play. (Jacob twice and Momo twice). They have all beaten me, (0-2 versus Jacob, 0-1 versus Matt, and 1-1 versus Momo) so I have respect for them and their skills; solid picks for sure. I expect all three to make the second day (along with me); don't let me down guys!!!

well I'm apparently abysmal at picking people. O well, it was fun. I look forward to seeing how everyone will do the next few days. Please keep us highly informed of everything if possible. As said before, I'd love to see some army lists and battle reports if you get around to it! :D

I finished in 10th place, so no day 2 for me, but there are some very good players and armies out there. I had the honor of playing funrun, truth, ManTrain, and nwojedi....a pretty tough schedule! In my rematch with nwojedi, it was a tough back-and-forth game that worked to a draw in the end. My only loss was to ManTrain. I'll post a more formal battle report after GenCon has wrapped up, but here are some of the armies I observed:
funrun:
2X Rats
Nilfheim
Raelin
Krav
Marro Warriors
truth:
Mimring
Krug
4X Swog
4X Gruts
Isamu
ManTrain:
Q9
Raelin
Krav
Laglor
Isamu
Marcu
Jormi:
5X Marro Stingers!!!!
The Hive
Guilty
Isamu
Codeman:
(same as truth)
lonewolf:
3X Glad
3X Blast (drops 1 Blast to stay in 24-space limit)
Raelin
Rev: (not exactly sure)
4X 4th Mass
2X Sentinels
Me:
5X 4th Mass
Eldgrim
Alastair
The top 8 will play 1 vs. 8, 2 vs. 7, etc. I'll try to post some updates tomorrow. Good luck to all those who have a good chance in the contest!
Oh, and sorry this is so sloppy and quick. There's so much to do here!

GenCon Placings
First of all, a mistake was made in one of the participants. MattserTruckRally, not ManTrain, was in the finals. And, he was the one who walked away with the title. Congratulations! Here are your GenCon 2007 Championship placings:
1st MattserTruckRally (NOT ManTrain)
2nd Rychean
3rd lonewolf
4th Jormi_Boced
5-8th (no particular order) funrun, Revdyer, Skynight, truth
Uprising should be here soon to post the winners of the contest. To those who won, please PM me so that I can get your contact info for your prizes. Thanks to all who entered the contest, and congratulations to the winners!

I'll have the winners up in a little bit guys. Thanks for your patience.
Ok guys, here are the results.
MattsterTruckRally was worth 25 points. Only 8 people picked him :P
Ry was worth 4.8 points. He was picked 25 times.
Lonewolf was worth 7.2 points. He was picked 11 times.
Jormi was worth 6.6 points. He was picked 12 times.
Funrun was worth 4.1 points. She was picked 12 times.
Sky was also worth 4.1 points. He was picked 12 times.
Rev was worth 3.5 points. He was picked 14 times.
Truth was worth 3.1 points. He was picked 16 times.
3rd place goes to Rev who had picks worth 14.4 points
2nd place was a tie between Will T, Ry, Clarissimus, weesel99, jacob_j_p and Mr Bishop. It was determined by a D20 and jacob_j_p was the winner. They each had 25 points.
1st place was another tie between Tiberius and Draconious. They each had 29.1 points. After a toss of the D20, Tiberius was the winner.
I actually recorded the D20 rolls for tie-breakers on my digital camera and tossed them on my computer, so here are the vids so no one can cry cheaters :)

It is tentative at the moment (next Gencon is a year from now after all), but the reply I got back from my folks when I mentioned heading down to Indy next year was fairly positive. So, perhaps you and I will have the chance to face off each other next year then.

Well I am glad I didn't completely let down the people that picked me, and got them some points. I know I got a little crazy and threw all my practice armies out the window to play with the Hive and the Stingers for the first time on day 1 of the Gen Con Championship.
They did do pretty well for me. I had a few critical misses on my juicing attempts that put me out on a couple of games, but other than that, they were pretty awesome.
I really wish I would have got one more turn in my game with Lonewolf, so I could have killed a gladiatron and won by 40 points instead of losing by 40. I hate it when the time runs out on the opponents turn:) I really could have used another set of Swarm of the Marro (for more stingers:)), instead of the Marvel Heroscape I got:)
It was a great event. Thanks to everyone that put it on.

what exactly was your army again? 4 stingers, the hive, and what else? You said that you failed on your rolls a couple of times, do you think having subakna would have helped more? Or perhaps raelin to help keep them protected if they fail on their roll? How did you play the hive? Did you just set it up in every game, or couldn't you use it if there was no swamp in the starting zone? And did it do well when you used it?
Thanks, and congrats on doing so well with a brand new army. Hopefully that will cause more people to try out new armies. I know when I first read the stingers I wanted to make an army with them!

I wish I had 1 more turn in that game too...since you had no one left to defend the hive, I was going to have 4 Blastatrons with height, an attack glyph, and some adjacent gladiatrons....maybe only 2 if you killed one and then lay waste to a 2 defense hive. I think with 4 rolls of 5 or 6 dice I could have taken it out and made the win more decisive! :D
That said....I think the loss had much more to do with with the two bad juicing rolls at the end than anything else. I think if you had made either one of those two rolls, the outcome would have been different. That said, it was a great game and your played it perfectly and I got a little luck at the end there to pull it out.

Actually you only had 3 Blastatrons left, and one of them would have had to leave the attack plus one glyph in order to attack the hive.

I ran 5 stingers with the hive, Guilty and Isamu.
Having Subakna would have helped on the times I rolled a 4, but a 3 2 or 1 would still get me, and he is 160 points, so he is a bit too much if you are going to use the hive too.
Raelin would have been good, but I would have had to go down a set of Stingers. I did think about it though. I really wanted to maximize the Swarm of the Marro and just throw in fillers.
The Hive just has to sit in your starting zone like the rest of your figures, but it can't move or be moved. It sits on a 6 swamp hex, kind of like the large glacier. It was kind of handy, but I don't think in most of my games that it re birthed enough Marros to be worth its point cost, but it was a ton of fun when it did.
Anyway, I was glad I made the choice I did regardless of the outcome. It was a ton of fun to play, even though it did dissapoint me a few times.

I was surprised that figures from the brand-new set were allowed in the tournaments. Usually that's kind of a no-no because most players won't be familiar with those figures. However, on the other hand, I suppose the person with those new figs won't be too familiar with them either.
I apologize to those who picked me because Ciciman and I were late to the big dance and had our spots given away because of it. We were probably a good 6-8 minutes late - we had a horrible start to the day right from the get-go which doomed our chances of arriving on time. Oh well, there's always next year. :)

I had to play against Tor-Kul-Na in the Slugfest......that was tough. He is perfect for that sort of game. I did get lucky in that we played on one of the snow maps and there were not to many flat places for him to rest on. If he had been on one of the road maps, I would have been stomped for sure.
