Man, this game has me fascinated!
I want to try it since reading about it on Vassal's top 100 games of 2006(#54):

Here it is on BGG:

There are currently 110 races available and many maps as well. They were released over the years as Generations (expansions)

Reminds me just a bit of Heroscape: the game is played on hex spaces.
The races and types are similar to Heroscape:
Ghosts, Gladiators, dinosaurs, winged warriors, among tons of others.

Angelo Porazzi is the artist and game designer.
Looks like a real labor of love. He has several other games I'm interested in: Scaraball, Peacebowl & Dodecaedron (very Battleball-ish!), and a WWI bi-plane game!
It's the Heroscape aspect as well as Parozzi's DIY approach to the game that has me interested.
Although difficult to fully appreciate, the artwork has me severely interested as well.

I can buy directly from Parozzi but it's an international transaction. On the plus side, anyone can purchase their own customizable Warangel. meaning you can buy any races you want. Sounds very cool.

:?: Anyone play this game? I'd love to hear how it is and is it worth buying directly from Angelo in Italy? Newbie do you actually own the game and have played it?

I own the game and up to the 7th Generation of units along with several maps. One thing to note is the units do not come on the wooden blocks as shown but are cardboard chits but they work fine as is. It is a fun game and fairly easy to learn. The maps are hex-based and the artwork is very good, imo. I've had several transactions with Angelo with no problems. He is very nice and responds quickly to inquires. One nice aspect of the game is it is very portable. I have the rules, bits, maps and all the armies in the original box and one small Carcassonne box.

The standard game has both players pick a map and those maps are used as starting place for their armies and deployment is hidden (you put the box top sideways to hide setup). Each race has 7 fortresses that they will place along with a hidden resource counter (numbered 1 to 3) under each fortress. Each player must start with 10 resources hidden under their fortresses (1x3 res, 1x2 res and 5x1 res). Some armies did not include fortresses (from Generation 7) so you can just use the blank chits or other fortresses from another army not being used. Also some armies were designed for other games based off of the Warangel world but can be used in the normal game without too much trouble. The object of the game is to have 12 resources (yours and enemies) controlled at the beginning of a turn. To control a resource you must have a unit on the resource. Movement between maps is through teleporters. Each player starts with a specific number of units listed in the book (or the list from his website that has all the units) or you can set a value to purchase units instead. There is always one Master unit and then various other units (I've read that 100 points is a good start for the armies). Each player takes turns moving and attacking until the object of the game is met.

The only rule that I changed was to use the original red attack dice from HS to resolve combat instead of dropping combat chits (the odds are the same).

There are multiplayer rules but have not tried them yet.

Angelo is pretty nuts. I bought a copy of the really wacky biplane racing game a year or two ago, solely because of his enthusiasm. The game has some good points, but it can end up outstaying its welcome.

Dang! Newbie is the Game Guru!

I'm going to need to get the game and perhaps tailor-make my armies. Just need to sit down, figure out what I want, and commit to the purchase.
(also Capes and Cowls is released and I want to buy this too!)

I was thinking of buying Warangel without the wood discs. I can live without mounted unit chits.

Tossing the chits to resolve battle sounds a bit awkard. But thank goodness we can substitute in those Heroscape battle dice.

I'd love to get together and play this game with ya some time, Newbie!
Wonder if there's a Vassal version....

Wow, you're up to 7th Generation. That's a sizeable collection. Can you scan any of the artwork for the races?

Thanks for the insight.

I see this post is quite old but I have decided to respond to it to see if there is still anyone out there who plays this game? It looks amazing. My weekly gaming group might want to try this one. What I am wondering is are the armies really different. With so many, has the designer run out of ideas?
