Nilfheim taunts Ullar, tossing Acolarh's mangled body around with his beak-like jaws: but how did we get to this point?

Flashback to the night of April 13th, 2007. Four players gather around the dinner table, ready to lead their armies to victory.

A generic 4 person battlefield with a small tower on one side, a wooded area, a hilly corner, and a lake in the middle. Starting zones are 1x24-hex tile for each player. Glyph of Astrid is on a road tile in the middle of the lake.

Opening Moves
Although this was a free-for-all, each player seemed to independently decide to square up against his closest opponent. (something biased in the map?)

Einar, with Marcus leading, started moving up troops to meet Jandar's entrenched line.

Utgar (my forces) get in position to ambush Charos and the bulk of Ullar's forces.

On the first turn, I used Ornak to move Taelord into position in front of the ruin, and Runa into position on top of the tower. She rolled to curse Ullar's guys but missed.
Charos flew right in to engage me, which gave my minions the opportunity to surround him and attack.

Although he made quick work of the minions, they cut his life in half before dying.

Meanwhile, Jandar and Einar are still positioning their forces. Here's the field around the end of the 1st round.

The Battle Heats Up

Bad news for Jandar as the Airborne Elite drop in Round 2! However, they do not go on the front line since the 4th mass are currently picking off Einar's melee units handily.

On the other end of the Earth, Taelor summons up the arrow gruts to finish off Charos.

Things look good for Jandar and Utgar at this point, but the battle is far from over.

Einar is able to engage Jandar up close and starts wiping out the Omicrons. His attention is divided, though, by Nilfheim.

Einar takes more punishment from the 4th mass. (no picture)

Runa (also not pictured) swoops down and Curses Morsbane. She earns her points with that move. And will continue to fight well for the remainder of the battle. The Arrow gruts move up and kill off Sylvarris, capping off the round.

Stay tuned for the conclusion!

Endgame
In the ensuing turns, Einar and Ullar start to make a comeback. The Aubrien Archers Frenzy repeatedly, wiping out the arrow gruts and wounding everyone else on Utgar's side. Although they get killed, Acolarh will not let them die! The Leaf of the Home Tree Aura is in full effect, and Utgar has no answer.

Einar starts to pick off the Musketeers and Airborne, and also severely wounds Nilfheim. The Samurai Bowman are key players in this effort. However, the cost is high, as the Imperials are eliminated, Marcus falls, and the Izumi are reduced. Kiova is also in peril.

Taelord and the Swog are now dead. Only 1 archer was removed from the field. Runa, having no luck against the archers, attempts to expand the conflict into a true four way battle by engaging the Airborne Elite. She kills one off, but is unable to lure Jandar into the fray with Ullar.

Ornak, in a last ditch effort, runs up to fight Acolar. The archers gun him down.

Jandar's army is decimated save an Airbone, Sir Gilbert, and wounded Nilfheim. However, Hatamoto alone stands for Einar. In desperation Hatamoto also joins the battle, engaging Sir Gilbert for the sake of honor.

Honor intact, Hatamoto Taro spills his blood on the field. Simultaneously, Runa is skewered by the still frenzying Elves.

By the way, the Dumutef was also put down, although I think he wounded Acolarh. The elves also finish off the last Airborne.

In the end, Sir Gil and 1 Life Nilfheim go up against two archers and Acolarh.

You know the ending. Gilbert goes down, but Nilf swoops in and makes childsplay out of Ullar's guys. Acolarh becomes a leafy snack for the triumphant dragon king.

Four players is definitely fun, and the battle did not go as expected. Jandar and Einar were not impressed by their Flagbearers, but Ullar was convinced that Elvish armies are the wave of the future. Next time we will probably do a free form draft instead of Archkyrie specific.

Let me know if you like this stuff. Comments and suggestions for next time are welcome!

It was a good battle, one that will be remembered by the heroes of old, the mighty ones...They shalt never forget the days of the never dying elven warriors

I was thinking of one suggestion for a future 4 way conflict. Maybe if we configured the map in a "+" shape so all 4 players would eventually have to fight one another. The center would undoubtedly prove to be a bloodbath.

Alright, we'll try something like that next. At least, we'll try to put large obstacles in the 4 corners to make it faster to go to the middle first.
