July 1st!

Juicer, this seems to be what will get you the gamers so maybe you should edit the title of this thread.

It's funny, I never actually played against any of you...except Dman in a team battle that we never crossed paths in. This would be great.

Just please tell me there will be no Dang Braxas.

If we're doing this July 1 I kinda have to pack DB, allskulls ... but when we play, you won't see him -- I still owe you a Stupid Army if I recall correctly. ;)

I am thinking that it will mostly be free play. Though I do like the idea of playing some games where we draft the armies from limited pools. Just my preferrence I guess.

As for maps I have a few I would be able to make and it looks like by then I would have tundra too. I have a large map that might be good for a 2 on 2 mess. There are some other varieties too that I have but that can be discussed when we have more of an idea of who is coming.

JuicerGM

I had to make a change to the date. July 1st I have family coming in, so would not be able to game that day. I have also changed other details so reposted here.

After a discussion with my wife I found that I will be able to have some people over for a Heroscape game night. It looks like Saturday may be more popular.

I was thinking of a small group but we will see who is interested first.

I figured we could play as many sessions as we could fit in from about noon to 7pm.

The location would be my home in Rancho Cucamonga. Off the 10 Fwy at Archibald.

Let me know what you all think.

Hey all, I may be unknown, but Juicer can vouch for me, I'm his younger brother.

I heard great things about the tournament and I hope to play some good games on the 8th.

Oh and please, can we either get a 4 way free for all, or at least pairs teams match in. I haven't gotten to try any match with more then 2 people.

Huge map - 5 stars ... I'd love to play it. No, I'd LOVEto play it.

The other maps - I'm not big into flat maps with bridges, I like more mountainous stuff, but like I said earlier, I'll play anything at this point. ;)

Looking forward to it Juicer.

Chasm isn't Flat. I'll have some more pic of it up later so you can see. There is a High end to it and the low end with the ruins. The lava is about middle and then the bridges connect higher plateaus.

EDIT: I changed the map post. The Bridged worlds map was fairly flat and needs some work maybe. But wide river has high points on both sides going into a river valley with two different bridge points. I think it still could be interesting if others might want to see it.

JuicerGM

None of them have glyphs at this time. Decisions on that can be made for each game.

Battle of All Time Map is really too big I think for much more than a battle royal of death and dismemberment.

Chasm lends well though to scenarios. Capture High ground, Capture bridges, Capture a triad of glyphs. I also recall it being set for three start positions that don't seem to be marked on the Solidscape of it.

Wide River has a push/hold scenario landscaping. It would also do well for a stop the snakes campain.

Plus here are other views of Chasm.

Here is another map to make available to you all.

I currently call this Style 1 as I plan on making other maps 16x18 that will have the same footprint to them and therefore be interlocking for combinations.

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h5/JuicerGM/July%208th/e0c03f0f.jpg
I did notice though that my start zones didn't appear.
they are 19 positions located by the bridge on either side of the water not closer than 2 spaces of safe rock position in the lava and 19 positions on either side of the road on the green on level 1.

I am also thinking of using two map seen at AllSkulls June Tournament, with his permission of course.

Swamp Valley

Yeah, hopefully Oog will comment. He's the only one I know who knows for sure.

Anyhow Ty and his son have expressed interest in going. They're not confirmed yet. Does anyone have a foldout card table or something they could bring large enough for a map to go on for the just in case scenario? Otherwise i can see about bringing up a large table, but i'm not sure room wise if it's a good idea.

Yes, this is the technically the 5th SoCaliscapers Tournament. Wilk didn't include the very first official SoCal Gameday which was at last years GenCon Anaheim. Oog won, and he was also in charge of setting everything up. He brought along a few very cool themed trophies, in addition to the championship trophy which sits in his living room.

So I changed my title, I think it has a nice ring to it... no?

I would classify this as the 4th Monthly So Cal League Tournament or 4th Monthly Caliscapers Tournament (don't want to forget our Central Cali Brothers!!!)

The first SoCal toureny ever was at GenCon SoCal. Boom and I put that one together. Met Jtserk, and Team Lakai. And yes... the trophey looks great in my living room! A tribute to the humble beginnings of our growing tournaments.

The first real MONTHLY SoCal Tourneys was at FLGS in Whittier/LaHabra. BIGJIM joined us this time and we finnally met .H3X. and Wilk! Beers and BBQ at my house afterward. And the greatest 1 liner in HS history from Wilk to .H3X.! Oh yeah, I won that one too.

Then the tourney that set a new bar. The second Monthly in Santa Maria! T-Bone, Dman and AllSkulls were new attendees. BIGJIM was the hardest of the hardcore only working on a 1and1/2 hour nap! The trophy made its first appearance and then came home with me. Zany's at In&Out!!!

The third tourny in the IE. With the introduction of AllSkulls Tournament Cards. Met JuicierGM and SlikkRikk. Onix made it to his first Tourney with nephews and Wilk brought some Central Cali Buddies and his little Cutie! This time Dman handed me my 1st ever tourney loss and took the trophey home.

Now one the 4th... in July! Can't wait to see any new faces and see how this one plays out!

Soon..... very soon.

Dman had an idea to give ranking Glyph cards to the top 3 players for the sake of bragging rights. I added a bit of actual functionality to the cards. Let me know if you guys are OK with it.

1st place Championship...

2nd place...

3rd place...
http://www.picturepages.info/uploads/6ae7282832.jpg (http://www.picturepages.info)

If these work for you guys, we can have some made for each tourney and maybe we can do some in retrospect so Oogie can have his stack and Dman his.

The problem I see is that 4th place (looking in the mirror) misses out. Having a bye last tournament quite possiblely being the reason I was 4th and not 3rd. Then I see Rikk annoucing he is a definate maybe and not getting to take advantage of his card.

That having been said, I think the cards ROCK!

p.s. side note would it be reasonable to ask that a person that recieved the wild card in the previous tournament be exempt from recieving it the next. (again looking in the mirror) Please.

I understand about 4th place (looking in the mirror). That's what I ranked in the 2nd Tourney.

As for Rikk not being able to use his...my plans were to do the older ones later. No one can use theirs in this tourney since they were'nt part of the intitial pot (no one knew we were fighting for them). I can try to get the older ones done but I need to know who hosted the first tourney (I know it was mentioned but someone please remind me).

p.s. side note would it be reasonable to ask that a person that recieved the wild card in the previous tournament be exempt from recieving it the next. (again looking in the mirror) Please. That's fine by me. I'm sure there will be no disputes here.

Hey allskulls the cards turned out great. I see you added some actual functionality to the cards, very nice. I'm fine with it working on the next tourney, though I am not sure if the people placing in the top 3 really need an edge lol Then again it won't hurt any. Making up ones for the past tourney's would be awsome especially since that's two cards for yours truly =)

I'm currently miserably sick so my other project for the tourney didn't get off the ground, but hopefully i'll be feeling better by Saturday. Sometimes I come down with the flu, though, and it just doesn't go away.

Yeah having to use a bye system kinda sucked. I wish there was a better way of doing it, but I can't think of any besides having it first come first serve; Last person who signed up that makes it odd has to just watch if everyone before them shows up. That's just as bad as a bye so it's not really a solution.

First are maps of my design. Then a couple to revisit from June's tournament created by AllSkulls.

Style 1 (interlocking series)
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h5/JuicerGM/July%208th/e0c03f0f.jpg
I did notice though that my start zones didn't appear.
they are 19 positions located by the bridge on either side of the water not closer than 2 spaces of safe rock position in the lava and 19 positions on either side of the road on the green on level 1.
Style 2 (interlocking series)

MENU

Planned menu is BBQ Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, and Chicken Patties.
I seaon all the meat with a Lawrys seaon salt.

I will have simple condiments of mustard, ketchup and pickle relish.

I will also have 2 bags of chips to be determined when I get to the store.

Any other items need to be brought on your own or suggested in PM to me.

Your menu sounds great, I might bring two friends that have been playing heroscape too. I hope that's okay. We'll bring some more finger foods and chips/pretzels. I PM'd you for directions to your house, since the general directions are I-10 at Archibald.

The day is nearly here upon us. I wanted to make sure that everyone has gottne directions and is ready for some death and dismemberment.

We have the house until an hour after my wife calls. We have been lucky enough that she is taking my son to Disneyland for the day. When she calls it would be an hour trip fro them to get back and gives us the time to clean up.

I am ready for a great day and can wait until you all get here.

Wasn't it a permission thing before? The next one (August) might be at a gaming store if boom hosts so it should make it easier for you to get permission.

for determinaltion, yes i didnt realize it until about 3 days before that post. I didnt realize it was a cali thing or I wouldve checked the date out earlier.sorry butive had hawaii planned for months on end, i cant miss it just cuz id rather be shuttin malechi up right now.

as for allskulls yes it was. My parents are kinda nervous about the stranger house and they said it was out of the question if it wasnt @ i public place. So if we had more tournys @ public places, then I would be able to attend (as long as the date is cool) , and I might be able to host a few over in my area. sorry so cal. hopefully boom will host that and ill be able to get in.

Kakaw!

Allskulls, that's not fair, we had an agreement. Word is bond. I picked your army you picked mine and as I recall correctly, you said we had a well sorted assortment to choose from... irregardless, we're clackin' and that's STRONG LIKE BULL!!!

Any chance ONIX can make it after the revelations?

Can we still come to future Socal tournys? We'll bring the wooden bowl, leave the horse at home.

True...true. But remember you guys built your teams with a serious mission in mind, whereas we were more on the "for fun" tip.

I think I speak for us all when I say you guys are welcome at any SoCal tourney. You brought some life to the event.

well actually those wernt our best teams niether and common every time u try to piece a puzzle dont u do ur best to complete it? its like heroscape... every time u roll u try to roll 100% but hay sometimes 100% of two attack die can easily be thworted with 50perCent of 4 def die and whoos yeah we were tired though its tough to play out of your elements....either way.... WE GOTCHA!!

From what I saw you used the same braxas army every game and Vu used the same Q9 army every game. Not sure about pitboss, but from that observation alone I think it's safe to say you were pretty darn confident in those armies. Although I could be mistaken...but that's what I remember.

Can we still come to future Socal tournys? We'll bring the wooden bowl, leave the horse at home.

I think it's safe to say we would all love to have you.

July 23rd, 2006, 07:12 AM
actually if u say braxas and the q9 armies were the ones they used for most of the day i can assure u that was not their best teams as we play each other quite alot and i know that neither voodoo and preacher were using their best armies those two sound like the experimental armies we had discussed recently before the tournament.

Detrimentalman
July 24th, 2006, 05:30 PM
They may not have been their favorite armies trixar, but there is a good reason for that; Joe's Fury already stated in another thread that he built their armies, so of course they weren't "their" favorite armies.

Some of us, in our tournaments, have been discussing whether or not braxas is a bit unbalanced in 400pt tournament play. You either have to build specific armies tailored against braxas or hope your opponent doesn't have her, because she can be a real b*tch. Q9 not so much, but he is pretty powerful too. I assume that JF chose two characters he felt were powerful and then added to them to create what he felt were two powerhouse armies for Preacher and Vu to use throughout the tournament. I could be wrong, but it's only how I see it on this side of the fence. I'm pretty sure i'm close to the mark because it crossed my own mind to do something similar at the beatdown.

That doesn't mean they didn't use the armies well or that their skill wasn't important in their wins only that they did come with the best your group collaborated on with an agenda, for one of you to take home the trophy. While we each built our own armies with our own imagination and some with the purpose of trying out something different or fun. I don't believe for a moment that you guys just half assed an army and then just said "whatever, I hope this works" not when you went to all the trouble you did orchestrating everything else, especially knowing you guys "discussed it" and had your leader select the armies.

Blah blah blah We'll play again and then we'll see. You guys are good players, but don't discount us. It was close and next time you may be on the losing side so it behooves you to not let your mouth run to much over winning one time. Next time we'll be better prepared knowing its the CCC.

Trust me Dman, we don't discount anybody; we respect all our fellow HS players.....though some of us are arch-rivals by regions :-D. Don't take our teasing too serious, it's all for fun.

I am happy to know that you guys are taking us seriously and will be preparing for our next meet. Of course we will prepare as well, maybe we'll sneak attack you with Gorillanators...so unexpected it'll throw your game off Muhuhahaha!

That I would like to see. I've fielded 2 squads of G-nators and I'm a big fan. I wonder what the CCC have in the works? I've seen the orc and wulsinu hordes. Time for something new!

I still haven't unleashed the secret of the G-nators yet. I've done ok with them before, but have a difficult time trying to take out large heroes. I'm still trying to find the missing link.........hopefully I'll find it in time for the next gameday - I have a couple of days.
