I have not been on much the last few days, been doing stuff. Anyway, enough about me, did ANY of you notice a hurricane coming right towards Florida? I mean it is almost here, and nobody has started a thread about be safe and what not. My location does say I live in florida. I would think some of you would care if my house got wet. But when it comes to phsychics making predictions that the entire east coast is going bye bye, you all jump on board of that and say be careful  . I am hurt  :poorpost: . I would cry if I wasn't all wet :pity: from moving around stuff in the rain. Not even finished yet but the closest rain band is on top of my house.

Anyway, the hurricane "specialists" say the tropical storm Alberto wasn't supposed to be as strong as it is. Now, they are saying it won't get any stronger past 75 MPH which will make it the first hurricane this year. I am sure the weather men can tell Alberto not to get any stronger because they already made predictions it wouldn't.

Also, be safe for everyone out there in this things path. I know Kenntak is not very far from me, and besides that, I don't know. I know Vydar is further north, probably not to far from where this darn things is "supposed" to make land fall.

Anyway, to everyoneaffected by this storm, be safe and dry. My prayers are out to everyone. To everyone that isn't, shame on all of you. I thought you guys would have been on top of this more. Shame shame shame :buttkick:. I'm the one kicking you! :D

*please note this thread is serious yet being funny towadrs everyone. I am in no way mad at anyone for neglecting their duties of saying "be safe" to members of this board that are in potential danger*

Nope, 74 or up. Last weather update had it at 70.

Be safe!

Sorry, too busy with out of town guests (from Australia) over the weekend to pay any attention to the news.

Stay dry!

Dude that sucks. Hurricanes (even small ones) are not something to take lightly.

It has been on the news for couple of days, so I'm surprised you hadn't heard about it. I would think Florida in particular would have been covering it on TV and radio news.

I knew about it. I was watching the :verymad: thing come all the way from where it spawned to where it is now. I keep a very close eye on them. I was just saying that I was surprised nobody had said anything about this ealier. On most of the other sites I have ever been on there has been one. Not mad at you guys. Just messing with you all.

It's been just a tropical storm until this morning and now it is just barely a hurricane. Bush has declared a state of emergency last I heard.

We were all secretly hoping you'd get washed away with it. Did I just type that "outloud?!" :joke: :P I hope you all make it through okay and that my aunt who lives out there does too.

I guess we're too busy dodging tornados and rednecks out this way to notice a hurricane on the coast :chainsaw:

A tornado almost hit Owasso during the shcool year. Rednecks are harder to dodge though.

Hope everybody that lives down there stays safe, including deavablacc's aunt.

Good luck and be safe. Hopefully this season will be a mild one.

A Dave Barry-ism (paraphrased because I don't remember it perfectly):

'So Tropical Storm Alberto is headed to Florida, and if you're a Florida resident, you know what that means:

You've got the IQ of a bean sprout.'

Man, I lived in Orlando for 18 months and had two separate tornadoes blow through. Why do people live in that state at all?

I am flying in on the 24th. You best have everything cleaned up by then!

BTW - You're in Florida, not Louisiana. So I figured anyone in Florida with an IQ over 12 knew when to get the hell out of the way of a hurricane (as opposed to the brain dead New Orleans residents)! But, be safe anyway!

There's a part of me that doesn't think of Floridians and hurricanes because, as Malechi stated, they know when to get out. I think there is a lesson to be learned there. When people who have an idea of what's going to happen (read: not psychics) say to evacuate, it is wise to evacuate.

They alernate between guy and girl names.

Adam, Betty, Carl, Diana... one year

Anna, Bobby, Cynthia, Doug... the other.

No those aren't the names just an example.

It is already starting to rain in Tallahassee. We should be getting the worst of it in the morning. It is not a major storm, but you still have to bring in all of the crap from the backyard and take precautions, as always.

I have lived in Florida and the Caribbean for most of my life. It is just something you get used to and you need to know when it is time to bail out.

It is a tradeoff: hurricanes some of the time; beautiful women in bikinis at other times. You don't see too much of that up north.

Hurricane Update: Right now I am waiting for the update before heading off to bed. At the moment, heavy rain is hitting on and off. The wind has really started picking up, and I was in a tornado warning. I think a tornado started, or nearly started just north of me. Another rain band is just off shore and is coming my way. On the radar, it looks as though the storm is starting to wear itself out, not sure until seeing the update. Also, I think the eye may either be just west of me, or has finally passed me. My prayers to anyone in the path of this thing.

There is always people everywhere that are dumb and stubborn and won't get out when a major hurricane is coming. I mean, look at how many people died from these things over time. Many probably could have been saved from them just being smarter. Granted, I realize some people just can't leave for whatever reason.

My family always keeps a close eye on these things, and is very ready to bail out if something goes bad. Also, my family is wise enough to buy the needed supplies if we were to lose power for a few days (has happened before). I have lived here all my life. After a while, you learn what these storms can really do and you don't mess around. I remember within the last two years, I believe it was hurricane Charlie, how it hit a trailer park killing nearly everyone if not everyone there. Apparently the people would not leave, they believed or said that the storm was not going to hit and they were not leaving, well guess what. It wiped it out! Off of the flippin map.

Regarding Louisiana, they need to wake up. They just voted back in the 2 people that helped complicate everything down there. I would never have re-voted for that mayor. He is terrible. He constantly blaims someone else for what happened. I am sure he even at one point blamed the storm for hitting them. I thought it was hilarious when he talked about rebuilding New Orleans as a "chocolate city". Not that I have any problem with any other race or such, but this guy is nuts.

I also think it is retarted to rebuild in that exact place. IT IS IN A SWAMP PEOPLE! Hello! You are already way under the sea level. Flooding is a major concern for everyone there.

I advise anyone and everyone who is ever in one of these things path, please take great care with them. They can do tremendous damage if you play it dumb. They can kill, and they will if they can. They tear down houses and lives with just a blow from above. You will not stop them without help from above. Even if it is a Cat 1 or even a tropical storm, these things can do a ton of damage if they hit stuff right. Several people died last year from Katrina when she was just a Cat 1 and hit Miami. Not sure, but I think everyone that died, was outside and trees/ branches landed on them. They didn't take the storm serious and paid the ultimate price for it.

You too! :D

I went through Andrew in Miami and that is the worst storm I have ever seen (and I have been through far more than I can even remember). The place looked like a war zone after the hurricane passed and yet, such few people died. When I saw what my neighborhood looked like after that storm all I could imagine was all of the dead people that must be everywhere. I heard some terrifying stories and people got hurt, but they survived. The people of South Florida are quite resilient.

I think a lot of people in LA couldn't financially go anywhere. They probably lived paycheck to paycheck and a) couldn't have left work and b) all their family lived in the area, so it's not like if they did leave they'd have anywhere to go.
That's a broad sterotype of a lot of people, and I'm sure there where some exceptions, but I'm sure there where a lot of people in that boat.

BTW, good luck KoP.

I'm in north-central Florida (Gainesville) - just about as far from a coast as you can get in Florida. We've been getting a lot of rain and a bit of wind, supposedly up to 50 mph gusts here. My aunt e-mailed me yesterday asking if I was evacuating yet. I showed my roommate the e-mail and we just laughed. A level one hurricane really isn't much to weather...especially in Gainesville where we have plenty of ground between us and the water. I imagine it is probably a bit worse on the gulf coast where it hit, but not nearly powerful enough to call for an evacuation.

KoP - Glad to hear things are going okay down in the Tampa area. I know Kenntak is down there as well. If anyone is from Cedar Key or a bit further north it would be good to hear an update from them.

2000 years ago people walked almost everywhere, :) but honestly I can imagine how difficult it would be to just pack up and move. I'm certain that people with $$ just headed out, but those who had no car, not much $$ or no means to finance a WALK decided to huddle up and hope for the best.

I know I'll be weathering most of the hurricanes for the rest of the time I'm in Florida. My wife to be (Wedding is this Saturday down on a gulf coast beach - so hopefully the beach is still there!) works as an engineer for the Florida Power and Light power company. Due to Alberto, this week her work hours are 6am-10pm so that they can repair any power outages as quickly as possible. Unless they call for a full scale evacuation, we'll have to stick around so she can help clean up the mess!

We saw the worst of it last night around 1:30am or so. Heavy winds and a lot of rain in Tallahassee.

Since my house is on top of a hill, we don't really have flooding issues. There were some power outages in town and downed tree limbs, as usual.

Mostly it is just going to be a pain in the ass to clean up the pool that now has greenish water and tons of leaves in it to vacuum up. :grumble:

By Friday, we'll probably be back to the 90 degree weather and sunny days.

The good thing is that Lake Jackson, which just about drained due to a sinkhole and lack of rain, should be fillling up with water again. The poor fish were all dying out there.

Thats weird Annerios, since that was probably when we had the worst as well. Maybe an hour before. Anyway, my yard looks fine.

Also, my house is located in the highest area in the pinellas county. I am not even in an evac zone. However, if the water was to reach up to me, everyone else would be under water :P.

Hope everyone is safe, and glad this storm wasn't able to get stronger. It would have been one heck of a beast if it wasn't for the weather that helped to keep it small out over the gulf.

Regarding New Orleans: Didn't they have a whole army of buses that was not used? They could sure as heck used those to get the people that were unable to get out themselves. I know that I saw a picture of maybe 100 or more buses altogether that had been flooded. Why weren't they used? Also, I would have said heck with teh house and would have started walking. Maybe would not have gotten to far, but sure as heck would have been able to get out of the city.

And please don't drag Bush into this. Our Governor is very good. He has done a plendid job of helping get Florida off of its butt and back to normal over the years.
