UPDATED 29 Dec. Steev_o vs. Sapper The Monster Mash

I know it has been a long time since I have posted anything. Well I have been busy for the past few months. The army has thought it necessary to send me to Alaska (Ft Wainwright to be specific). Of course I went and it has taken a couple of months to get my furniture and other household goods here. I am in the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division. The brigade is currently refitting from its recent return from Iraq and getting ready for its next vacation to that wonderful country sometime in the future.

Anyway for the trip to Alaska I was able to convince my wife that we "needed" a digital camera, so here are pics from my son and I first battle in the great state of Alaska.

DeadEye takes his shot and gets the the beast in the head. But it seems that luck is on my boys side. He uses a custom glyph that forces me to re-roll. As you can guess I do not get another 20. So Nilfheim charges in, ready to turn DeadEye into a TV dinner. DeadEye better get your parka and arctic mittens ready.

Good help is hard to find, that heavy armor must have made all the knights tired. So now I have to bring up my third stringers, the Warriors of Ashra. At least Nilfheim is gone!

Overall great battle but I don't think I can remember one event (the failed re-roll of DeadEye's sniper shot on Nilfheim) making such a huge difference. My son had about 300 pts worth of unused units out of a 700 pt battle.

Almost forgot. My son and I like to place the vanquished on the vanquishers card so we can see who is the biggest Bad @%$. Nilfheim has DeadEye, Sir Den, 1sqd of knights and Jotun. The vikings took out one squad of knights. Vatarien took out the Warriors of Ashra and Theracus. Wolverine took out Kelda (what a tough guy).

That flock thing is pretty crazy...You could attack the person in charge of the castle door from the outside, take out people standing on a glyph, and he has an equivelent of stealth dodge, all for 110 points? that's sweet.

We finished 1 turn and decided to go to Fred Meyer and get some groceries.

I have downloaded all of your other Magi cards. The only reason I have not used them is because I do not have a reasonable substitute figure to replace the one you used on your cards. All of your Magi cards look decently balanced though.

As a thought for you, think about posting what figures you use for your cards. This will make it easier for others to duplicate your hard work. Also think about placing a link in your signature that advertises your customs thread, this will get you more visibility.

EDIT: I see you have listed what figures you have used for your cards. My apologies :oops:

From my experience with him (1 game) his cost is okay. Keep in mind 1 game is not enough to work out all the kinks, but so far so good.

Since three of us were playing, I wanted to give my youngest a chance against me and the oldest. So I decided to give him all the dragons and let him have fun. Steev-o gave us a pretty good run for the money.

Yeah, the knights went down fast, which is too bad because I really wanted to see what they could do. I even drafted and all Utgar army to give JR a chance to use the knights most effectively. But he charged right in with them, no support units at all. After it was over I gave him some tips on how to use cavalry.

Yes, I have Ornak. He is the only flagbearer I do have.

Here is another update from a recent game (today) that Steev-O and I played. Steev-O loves to use Major Q10 and I am quickly beginning to dislike this figure. I decided to go with an all monster theme. Steev-O went with a Steev-O theme (7 year old theme).


For some strange reason this unlikely band of Heroes seems intent on liberating the Lowlands from the clutches of "The Monsters".

Why have an Elf, a Robot, a Marro, Syvarris and a filthy Ninja that only costs 10 pts banded together to save this fetid swamp?

Better yet, why are these monsters trying to protect this swamp? It's a swamp and monsters like swamps.
The forces of evil quickly realize the value of trying to take the glyph's, which are conveniently located in the center of a symmetrical swamp.

When we play we like to place the fallen on the card of the figures who killed them. The two pics above show who killed who. As you can see TKN and Q10 were the big guns of this game.

As badly as I got my butt kicked it ws still a fun game. The monster theme was good fun.
