Very cool! Thanks for the instructions.
The only problem I see is that an "Elf" somehow got into the "Orc" Tower. :D

Would be cool to be able to attach a ladder to the back of it.

I'll be working on that tonight!
I think I am going to use small dowels and heavy thread for rope.
I'm also going to attach spikes here and there.

the dowels and rope sounds cool but it would be more functional if you took the castle ladder painted it up pretty, or not so pretty, added spikes and glued that in position. it would be right to scale with the terrain and the figs would fit nicely.

I really like this. I'm assuming that it would be possible to print this on cardstock? In your drawing, there were spikes, are they on the way?
Thanks for sharing!

Yes, the ladder and spikes are on the way. I worked on the ladder last night. Man, it was slow going'. And please, if you make your own (which is why I did the tutorial!) SHARE! I'd love to see the towers in action.
Thanks for all the comments. :D

it looks fantastic! another one of those pieces for the "custom map" game i commented on over on another thread. your instructions make it look like even i could make this thing, but i bet it's a LOT harder then it looks. still, very creative and great construction.
Q: what about some thin dowel to add texture to the corners of the tower? running up? maybe other "eyecandy" elements like that?
can't wait to see the spikes...
edit: i'll have to try and make some of those ladders as stand alones. my boys have been talking about "seige ladders" for attacking castles...

Great idea on dressing up the tower. I may try that. I have losts of dowel left and some 1/16" basswood.
And siege ladders! I would be so easy to make them. I can see them being used just like in LOTR.

Hi  (it's Nina)
Told you I'd get on this board eventually! That tower worked so well in our game yesterday. I like how well it hid the character in it from the ranged ground attack. Too bad I didn't get to use it. Maybe you wouldn't have totally annihilated (sp?) me! But I guess it couldn't have helped Deadeye getting summend in the first round. And I guess also it wouldn't have helped Charros out from dying in, what was it, the third round. :brickwall:
If you couldn't tell, I'm not bitter, no, not at all! :grumble:
Oh, yeah, I almost forgot, you should definatly post pics once you get one of the characters impailed on the spikes!

I didn't even think of that. That would be so cool to see! Maybe a boiled elf would look like a good "dead, impaled body"

I thought the Marro Warrior with both arms in the air would look good impailed, spread eagle, on the spikes. Just got to boil him to make him look limp.

Hi Nina
:drunk: (Nina's my friend!)
I'm willing to sacrifice a piece or two to be spiked. I need to go through everything and see what I have. I have some spikes on the tower now, but I'm not done yet.

Maybe you could use some non official heroscape pieces if you have some random toys around. Or just a head impailed would be awesome! I'll have to check our figures too to see what we could sacrifice.

Great model. I have a suggestion on the instructions:
You actually want to score on the outside of your folds, not the inside. One of the primary purposes of scoring is to prevent the paper from splitting/tearing/fraying when it is folded. You can view the worldworks tutorial to make sure I'm right if you want.
I nearly finished this last night, but then my wife came home early from choir and wanted to talk. It's so hard to talk to her in the attentive way she wants when folding/scoring/cutting....

Hey Zaukrie,
How do you score on the outside without leaving a mark?
I understand about the wife. I got some grief when setting up the tutorial.
Take some pics when you finish, I'd love to see someone else make one of these!

Frist, I've made 3 big errors, as I didn't read the instructions too carefully, so you'll have to wait for my second tower to get pictures!
Second, with scoring, I use the blade but don't press down much if, at all. You will make a very thin white line probably, but not always. I touch that up with marker that is black (after it is put together), or a color similar to the model. It is somewhat dependent on the card stock you use. The thicker the stock, the more important the scoring is.
Check out worldworksgames.com, they sell lots of models and have some good tutorials on making models, and even some on designing, though your work here is excellent, so I'm not sure you need the design tips (though some of the tabs could be a tiny bit larger - I may cut them differently and see how it works on the next try).
This is a great design, and I hope you do more, thanks,

Yeah, some of the tabs were a bit small. When I put the first one together I cut them larger as well.
I understand what you are saying about the score in the front now. I guess I thought that a pen on the back would prevent any white from showing on the front. When I folded, the paper didn't crack at all so I guess it worked out well. I may try it your way on the next one though!
Post some pics when you get a chance!

You could make several of these, maybe even a couple larger ones and use bridges made of dowel and thin balsa strips to link them. An instant elven tree fortess. Be sure to include lots of RttFF trees to fill in space and block LOS. Imagine fighting your way through that kinda mess.

That's an exceptional tutorial.
I wouldn't say that the door was a design flaw. I don't fancy having to fuddle with gluing the walls together if two sides were huge gaping holes - it would make the paper flimsy. Much easier to cut a door when that component is complete.
