I'm from Grand Rapids and I am always willing to play. I've grown way too familiar with my current opponents' tactics (which is basically just my wife and best friend); and am always ready to stay up late and roll dice and laugh and cry and watch my team conquer.
Sadly though, my piece of crap car won't make it to Ypsi and back I think. Would you be willing to go the distance if it were worth it?

Hi MI people! I just wanted to let you know I am trying to judge interest level for having a tourney in Cincinnati, OH the first or second Saturday of Dec. I think Cincinnati is a 5 hour drive from Detroit straight down I-75.

Please mark your interest level in this thread http://heroscapers.com/community/showthread.php?t=3556

I run my LOTR-TMG tournaments at RIW. Ever thought of playing LOTR-TMG? I have been using the Heroscape tiles to build maps for the game. It is very cool and gives the game added realism.

Hi folks. I'm one of the ones MorbidSoul mentioned (from Waterford). We've been getting more and more into this game every time we play... I find myself being drawn by some wierd force into every Target, WalMart, and TRU I pass by just to see if they have anything I missed the last time I was there... it's crack. I buy a bunch at once until I convince myself that that's all I'll ever need - and then I buy some more.

Is there a 12 step program or anything out there?

Hello fellow addicts. I'm in the EL area. No one cept meself to play against.
Easy mechanics of the game, might try to make the Feb 17th event if I have time.

Posted a couple of customs and some custom terrain I've worked on.

I think Hasbro has done a very good bait and switch on us! saying this is a game for kids and then starts making all these expansion sets once people are hooked. :D

Excellent Royalerule. Like Aldin, our "official"(?) greeter said, welcome to the boards.

Let me be the first to invite you to play in our April Michigan Tournament in Ann Arbor. We have a few guys coming in from Grand Rapids and some from Pennsylvania.

Chech out this thread if you have't done so yet. And don't worry about how good you are or aren't - we all stink too! In fact, you play more than me and my GR friends.

Wow, I need to search for "Michigan" more often. Had no clue this thread was still active.

Couple of things:

1) Bad Calvin, I've now moved down to the Brighton area, so I'm not so local anymore... sorry man. Though I'd still possibly be up for a game.

2) Still bummed that I can't make the april tourney. If you don't know what that is, check the above post by Damja (a few back) for a link to details!

3) I'm on a quest for an Einar flagbearer. It and Hawthorne are the only two things I don't own now, and the completionist in me is going slowly nuts. I did a quick tour of a few TRU's today and came up empty save for two Jandar FB's and what I believe was a sparkly water master set.

Oh, and I also managed to talk one of the employees there into searching their inventory database for more FB's and she said none were showing up in Michigan, but there were some in Ohio. Can someone prove her wrong? PLEASE?!

4) I would be remiss if I didn't mention that Pi day was coming up! Just a simple public service announcement...

Oakland University in Rochester Hills MI has a gaming club which meets on Friday evenings to play a host of different games. One of them is Heroscape and there are several fans of the game in the organization. I believe non-students are allowed to attend these events and I might be able to work with them to arrange for a day long event on a Saturday. Would this be something people would be interested in?

If are not familiar with the area, Rochester Hills about 30 minutes North of Detroit and OU is off exit 79 of I-75.

Hi Guys,

In about two weeks I'm going to try and make a regular weekly HS night at basically the largest game store in the area down here in SE Michigan. Very large store / gaming area. My "real life" (damn real life) wont allow me to go out gaming for the next week or so, but after that i should have plenty of free time.

When i say regular, i mean REGULAR. I will show up once i comit to starting a "HS night" every week, regardless if its just me playing with my dolls er... i mean HS figs by myself. No wishy-washy "maybe" crap from me once i commit. =P

I live in Sterling Heights with little time to play and no opponents except for my kids. But I am planning on coming to the Tournament on the 20th. It will be my first time playing against anyone older than 9, so it should be . . . enlightening. I don't expect much success, but I do expect to have a lot of fun.

I'm not quite a Michigan player, but close enough. I'm from Sault Ste. Marie Ontario.

I picked up HS as a Christmas present for my son, and it has grown from there.

Right now my schedule is is preventing me from playing, but I am thinking about the future. I will be trying to organize some small tournaments in the future. There are already people running 40K tournaments, so HS shouldn't be that difficult to set up.

I'm not sure I can welcome you after seeing where your from. I'm a Michigan scaper now, but I graduated from Auburn University*. Maybe if you wore some blue and orange . . . :D

Seriouslly, keep an eye on the events thread. Last year, Damja scheduled a tournament for Christmas-New Year's time; I don't know plans for this year, but both damja and theMainMan have planned some fantastic tourneys near Ann Arbor. Maybe there will be another this year.

With my kids soccer starting (I'm a parent and coach), I can't make anything on Saturday at the usual place until mid-October. But a Blue Dragon tournament would be perfect. I have games at 1000 and 1600, so an early afternoon tournament would fit right in the middle, and all the games are within a 10 minute drive of Blue Dragon.

FYI - Old Guard Hobbies on Van Dyke north of 15 Mile recently rearranged their store and added a few game tables. They are more geared toward War Hammer, but they are free to play for anyone. Blue Dragon has much more room, but Old Guard is another alternative if BD is crowded.

Note that Old Guard currently has one HS Castle Set in stock for $40. Its not much, but at least they carry some Heroscape.

I am looking for some fresh faces for our Lansing-based (mostly) Heroscape group

I have been hosting a fairly regular Heroscape night in Lansing for going on several years now. We are a mix of married and single guys (a few dads), grad students and working stiffs. Many of us have gamer-geek backgrounds, but Heroscape has been a first introduction to hobby gaming for some in our group. The average age among us is probably about 30. Between 4-6 of us (out of a current pool of 10 or so) get together each week.

I'm the guy with the collection (at least one of everything except convention exclusives -- seven master sets, double or triple commons) and we meet at my house on the east side (very close to Michigan Avenue, a little west of Frandor) from sevenish to midnightish -- recently on Fridays. Even though we have logged a lot of Heroscape hours, none of us are what you would call "serious" players. We have developed our own set of conventions and house rules over the years and could care less about the tournament environment. We like to drink beer and have a good time.

Unfortunately, I do travel quite often these days and we only meet when I'm in town. This makes it a little harder to maintain a solid core group of players, so I'm looking to expand our pool a bit. If our group sounds like something that might interest you, drop me a PM and let me know. Thanks!

The best way to meet a group of local players all at once is to come to the tournament I linked to above. I understand you not being into the tournament scene, but the local HS tourneys may not be what you are imagining. HS tournaments (at least the couple I've been to) are very easy-going events. The atmosphere is more like a casual game night with a group of friends than a hard-core competition.

Your group sounds pretty much like the same type of crowd that will be at the tournament. Most players are in their 20s or 30s, but there have been players much younger and older (including my 9 year old son - now 10 - who'll be there next month). Even if you don't want to play, come on down to meet some of the locals.

Would any of you MI HeroScapers, and anyone willing to drive to MI, be wililng to particpate in a Seasonal Tournament that was 2 saturdays a month, for 3 months? Making it 6 days to win the primary seasonal prize?

Entry would be $8.00 (Has to be $ or I cannot fund the prize)

Each players points would be totalled after 6 game days, to determine 1st 2nd 3rd etc...

1st Place would get $100.00 (possibly more if participation is higher than expected)

2nd and 3rd place would each get $50.00
a primary prize? of about $100 for 1st, and $50 for 2nd and 3rd? Possibly more if participation is high, and the location I hold it does not want too much $ for holding a cash tournament...

In addition there could also be a trophy for the Yearly HeroScape Champion etc...

Right now we would only need at least 5 particpants, myself being the 6th, and void of winning 1st/2nd/3rd... to get it going. If it is the same players you can all take turns winning, and likely just break even for a while, at least until others hopefully catch on to the chance to win $... and get into this game.

Is this a stupid idea? or? I am going to do this myself because I doubt my local game store(s) will bother with HeroScape WOTC Sanctioned games... since they view it as a product that does not sell. I also hope to prove them wrong by getting more players involved with a cash prize...

I like the idea Ron. The problem I would run into would be that I have a baby on the way and taking time for that many Saturdays would be unrealistic.

I would love to see some kind of League play where what you did last month influences an overall score. The rub is getting people to not only commit to multi day evens, but to them actually showing up. I can commit to March right now, but things happen over time and something may pop up.

Then there is the question of rules. We have not had very many tounaments where the rules and maps were not changing the week of the tournament. That would be unfair because it could hinder an overall plan.

I love the idea, and here is what would get me excited to participate.

1. 6 dates throughout 2009 that would be 5 hours of scaping per event.
The scoring would be the exact same for all 6 events.
2. And overall scoring system that everyone knows ahead of time that would be carried through with until the last tournament.
3. Perhaps a theme for each event. An example would be that the frst tourney could be a "Big Ol Monster Battle", the second could be a "Heat of Battle" and the third could be a normal battle.
4. You are graded on 5 tourneys and you have to drop your lowest score. This way you are not penalized for someone who can make all 6 and you could only make 5, but it gives an advantage to the people who can make all as they can eliminate a low score.
5. Have a "Varsity Champion" and a "Junior Varsity Champion". What I mean is, there will be people that find out about this half way through. Have two different prizes/classes/awards/honors. One for people who played in 4 or more tourneys. One for people who played in 1-3 tourneys. This way, if someone just starts getting into Scape in June, they still have a chance to win a title at the end. A perfect exaple is Darth Ryan. His first tourney was June, and he won his next one. If he only played two in a year, he wouldn;t have a shot at the people who played 5.
5. I think all maps should be agreed on a certain amount of time before each tourney so everyone can practice.
6. Lastly, there would have to be a running tally of everyones scores and where they stood both before and after each tourney. It always helps to see how everyone else did compared toyourself and who they played. For those who really get into strategy, thsi is an important tool.
These are some random thoughts, but I love the idea of having an overall champion for all of 2009 for the whole state of Michigan.
If you decide to move ahead with the "theme's" for each tourney, I think it would be wise to come up with the rules for each before planning anything else. This way there would be no complaining 4 months down the road. An example would be, the first tourney is Heat of Battle, 500 points, these are the maps availble to play on, winners are determined by most points left on the board after 50 minutes.
The second tourney is a normal tourney with 800 points and these maps will be available. Glyphs will be used and there is a 5 round maximum. Whoever destroys the most points wins.

Ect. ect.
Iam a strong believer in planning every single aspect out ahead of time. Thismakes it not only easier on you, but more enjoyable for everyone else because they donlt have questions, and there isn.t a feeling of , "Hey, that isnlt what was said on the site, when did we change that?"

Just my thoughts. I would love to see this happen. I hope I can be involved. Let me knwo if you need help at all. I love to plan stuff like this.

I was already pondering having a drop, that is what we do with a radio control car tournament... we drop 1 or 2 of the worste race events, incase a car failed or technical error, could not make it, etc....

Prizes for those that only attended some of the days I was not thinking of... if I did this it would have to be part of the prize choices from prizes playrs bring, and not part of the cash pot, unless I get lots of entree fees...

Maps would definatly be done ahead of time, although I could still have a "unknown map" tournament, since I wont give myself the cash prize, even if I win... which is unlikely anyway... I will be playing just out of curiosity to see how many points I can get though, at least on days were I can as filler for odd number of players.

I was thinking a 800 point game, any number of figures, have to start with 250 on the battlefield and your allowed to place more in your own start zone at the begging of the round before placing order markers... kind of like in my large army rules...

I am setting up score sheets so they are similar to damjas skull system... you get a point for having a win, plus additional points for killing your opponents army and or having at least X amount of your army surviving... 25%+1 50%+2 75%+3... etc...
+1 point for each win a player you defeated has. A maximum of 60 points a day, unlikely though... so up to 360 points per season, if you win every game with all your figures allive and all your opponents figures destroyed. Definatly unlikely.... :)

I would keep a spread sheet of the scores, as a backup to the score sheets each player will be given...

The problems I forsee are;

Participation, there are LOTS of us MI players, but not all of them show up... hopefully $ will get them interested.

My introvertness... might get annoying to some since I usually ignore formalities.. like saying hello... LOL. Although it may speed things up since I dont BS so much.

Money... need to charge an entry fee to get the large cash prize. Wich makes me wonder if people would pay and still bring bonus prizes for the daily prizes. This does not seem to be such a big deal with other tournaments that have been on here.

Location, I want to do this on Saturdays... and Blue Dragon is usually full of Magic Players then. So some of the fees may have to go to rent a place... or something... I have a few ideas. (Old Gaurd Hobbies, is too small and cramped and not really an option).

Inexperience, I have not done this yet, so it will take time to get things flowing right...

TheMainMan
October 31st, 2008, 09:01 AM
I agree with alot of what you said. I think the rub will be the cash prize. Playing for cash makes a game very serious. It takes some of the fun out of trying new armies and making friends at the tourney. Why not charge a small entrance fee, but put it into Heroscape stuff. Not everyone needs a prize. Just the top 3 or something like that. That way you could have a nice bundle for first place.

Draconious
October 31st, 2008, 09:44 AM
The overly competitive possibility is why I may limit the prize to $100... and use anything else to buy expansion packs, or maybe even food/drinks, or to rent out a nice place maybe. The fact that you have to pay X amount just to get into the game, and play each day, makes the $100 not all that great of a prize... this way those that play play for fun, and just happen to win their money back 2 or 3 fold. So hopefully it will not be that big of a deal... most will be playing just to play anyway, and will not expect to win (how I usually play at least).

I would also like to think that the HeroScaper community is a bit more civilized than other games... so this will not be that much of a problem.

Then again, the whole point of me doing this is to attract other players, from other games, and who knows who money will attract... Watched some heroclix players play once, in a game that lead to a $400 prize, and a few people were constantly being told you cannot do that... like 4 times per turn... lol. Either because they were cheating to win, or had no clue what they were doing...

This is a prototype score sheet, it looks 100x more complicated than it is... its mostly just check off the box for the points.

Personally, I'm not so excited about a cash prize. I don't really like the idea of having to pay $8 a session, or do you mean $8 for going to all the games? ($8 for a tourney as apposed to $8 every 6 tourneys).

Of course, that's just me. I would love to come to one though.;)

I don't know if you are the religious type or not, but usually churchs have available space on Saturdays (lots of times for free if you are a member of the congregation).

The idea sounds pretty cool, and was something that we had discussed doing before (remember me "rankings" I used to do?). Like you are realizing there are just so many logistical issues.

I am pretty busy for a while too, but Saturdays are not so bad for me. Twice a month might be tough though.

:2cents:

Draconious
November 1st, 2008, 04:22 PM
I do not goto church... I was pondering offering any extra funds as a fund raiser, and asking a church to do it... but right now Blue Dragon should be good enough, if we only need 2 or 3 tables with 2 games on each, plus the larger funky tables they dont use for card games due to their ockwardness. Plus I only live about 10 minutes away-and-back, so I could run home to get 2 more tables if we need.

The fee will more likely be $5.00 so long as I get enough poeple interested... And yes it will be each day of play, just like you would be paying $5.00 each tournament you goto... this is just multiple small tournaments that add together in the end. You also do not have to attend every day, only 5 days will count, so you can skip one, and if you do really well you might be able to skip 2... and still win.

The way I am currently setting it up WINS are important, but how much of your opponents army you destroy, and how much of your army survives is even more important... If the player with all the wins, does not attack often enough he may actually lose to some one that does not win a single game, but kills off most of their opponents figures.

You get upto about 25 points for wins and strength of schedule, then an additional 0 to 50 points for how hard you worked/played to get it. If you win your likely going to get a lot of the additional... so only about half of it is the balancing point to weather someone with less wins gets more points than you or not. Just dont sit in your start zone the whole game and you should do fine ;).

I updated the "score sheet" I linked to on the previous page...

(DARN HACKERS...)

Okay, so here's what I said before:

So far, there doesn't seem to be a tournament going in Michigan for NHSD. I just got through Grant Clark's section in HS Codex 11 about "Missions: The New Tournament," and got inspired.

How about a Missions-based Tournament in Lapeer?

Here's what I can do to set this up:

I can provide a venue: my barn! (Not an animal barn...a PARTY BARN!)
I can provide lunch for a modest group of players.
I can provide nearly all terrain for maps (except lava ones...need those brought)
I can promise very cool Missions that will test your strategic abilities...beyond army selection!
I can provide my phone number so you can call and make sure you wouldn't be coming to some creep's house.
Did I mention lunch?

Damja's giving me tips on organizing/hosting, so you'll be spared no expense...

But I gotta know what the interest level is, so I know whether to go forward with this.

And would this be technically for October 17 (Sat) or 18 (Sun)???

Lapeer, by the way, is halfway (east/west) between Flint and Imlay City, 1 hour north of Detroit, 45 min. northwest of Sterling Heights, and about 2 hours east of Grand Rapids.

Not HeroScape related... and I do not intend this to sound like an ad.... I mostly just need people for web-site photos.

If anyone in the area has any interest in slot cars, I will be setting up a slot car track at Kart 2 Kart indoor cart racing & conference facility. I could use volunteers to be in the photos I will be taking of the track, bring kids! I will not be charging for the racing, but I will also not be giving out any prizes lol.

Monday September 14th (possibly Tuesday as well)
Kart 2 Kart Indoor Kart Racing
42705 Van Dyke
Sterling Heights, MI 48314

This weekend it will be setup again, at Gibralter Trade Center (mt clemens) as a Pay to Race track... near the food court.

More information: http://www.SlotCarRental.com
I will also give a big discount for any party rentals to any of the local HeroScape players if anyone wants to do a slot car birthday or something. At least 25% off...

When there are no jobs left... make your own.

West Michigan Heroscapers-

I'm in Muskegon and I've got about a 95% chance of having Thanksgiving weekend off. Being that most people have that weekend off, I've been thinking it might be a good day to get together for a Heroscape Day. Many go Christmas shopping on Black Friday, so I'm leaning toward Saturday as a possible day.

I'm willing to host the event if any would like to come. What I would like is to get an idea of how many would come if I hosted an event. If we have some serious minded Heroscapers, we could have a tournament style with several small boards, which is something we (at my house) haven't done yet. If we have an even number of people show up, we could have semi-finals and finals; if we have an odd number show up, we could do a round robin type tournament.

Let me know if you would be interested in a November 28th Heroscape Day, or if you have other ideas you would like to share. Let me know within the next week so I can begin making plans.

Hey all!

I've recently joined Heroscapers, although I've been playing HS since it was first released.

I'm in Grand Rapids, and I'm wondering about connecting with others in the area. I'm the sort who has, because I play pretty regularly, taught about 2-3 dozen others to play over the past few years ... but I'm starting to look for new people outside my current social networks.

If there are a few interested, I would even be willing to host a small gathering/ day-long event. Let me know.

Happy gaming!

Been a while since I thought about it, but I think I would like to do another tournament sometime soon.

There is a new game store open in Fenton that might work for us to have a tournament there (and it way closer to my house which is a bonus).

Any interest?

Yes,

There are four or five of us that have been playing way to much scape against just each other and have all expressed some interest in trying out our first tournament. I would bring a minimum of 2 players and up to five if the scheduling works out. If it works out we could also help out by bringing some maps and a pair of unopened Minutemen & Wolves as prizes.

I have actually been looking at all the tournaments going on in Ohio and was considering going to one this past weekend till my daughter's schedule intervened. For us, scheduling will be the tough part. Please let us know what you come up with and thank you for organizing.

Depending on the date, my son and I would be interested. I've gotten involved in Warhammer lately so that's taken most of my gaming time, but I'd really like to pull out HS again.

I did sell off about 90% of my scape collection though, so I will likely be using mostly master set figures LOL...

I don't think there are too many on here from the GR area, but just in case here's my question:

It's over for us in west Michigan, I've searched every wal-mart within 100 miles of Muskegon. All out and don't plan on any restock. Our best bet is the stores on the home page ( Wargammers is in Michigan but is it reasonable to drive 10 hrs to get to Iron Mountain in the U.P.). Just get a hundred dollars worth and they ship for free, also if you don't order from Wargammers you won't have to pay sales tax ( 0.06%). 8)

Wargamers is a great place to get your scape! I've never made the free shipping threshold with any of my orders, but their shipping is very cheap anyway. I usually try to buy from them first, but also try to keep buying a booster or 2 at Walmart to keep the stock rotating.

If anyone is looking for wave nine stuff, it is still available at a couple of walmarts around me for the usual $10.68 per booster. I would be happy to pick some up and bring it to the tournament. I could always return it if you couldn't make it for some reason.

Well all I can say is us westerners:lol: lost all our scape I live within 5mins of one wally, 2 are 10mins away, and 5 wallys with 25 to 45 mins away. I've called every wallys west of lansing south of traverse 4 times at least, nothing, or the people are just to stupid to know what there looking for. As far as keeping our stock rotating, at one time I had like 15 Glads and agent packs. 10 marvel sets still have like half of them after losing money trying to sell them on e-bay. The shelves just went empty after wave 8.

I've bought stuff from wargamers(they had like a sweet deal on AA, and 2 TJ's for like $25, had to get some).Although Coolstuff has the best deals,Housemouse LOL check out wave 2 heroes $50(one time they had a TT set for $100) making tons of cash there. All I'm saying is there's many places online to get the new stuff, and shop around go for the free shipping the Wizard's will be happy.:D

Well, it seems there is some recent interest in West Michigan. This is a general announcement to let you all know that there is a small group that meets in Muskegon for Heroscape periodically. The next event will be on Saturday, September 18th beginning at 10:00a.m. I will provide the food, just let me know if you are coming. If you need directions, you can PM me.

Just so you know, we have enough material for everyone to play. Right now we have 6 two player boards set up and one huge board that can play up to six. We play with 600 point armies, having at least 40 of them sitting out prearranged, thereby keeping drafting time to a minimum. This is especially helpful for some of the younger players so they don't have to struggle with building a competitive army.

I look forward to anyone who might be interested.

Have fun and stay busy - Luke 19:13

Hi Everyone!

I am new to the site. Put me down for another West Michigan Player.

Lets get something scheduled. I know a good Hall to rent in Plainwell Michigan if we have enough interest. My house can support 4 player games pretty easily.

If anyone is interested in a super short notice event, I have a match scheduled later today around 10:00AM in Allegan Michigan. PM me for details.

I know about 10 people who like to play heroscape. Getting them all in the same place at the same time is pretty much impossible though. I usually can get 1 or 2 of them to show up twice a month to play.

If anyone has any Ticalla Jungle expansions for sale I am interested. PM me the details.

Thanks!

Definitely some good trails in Plainwell. I've only walked part of it though.

I'm new to the site, and I am definitely interested in meeting people in Michigan who like to play this game. I hope I don't step on any toes by posting out of line or something.

About a month ago I created a huge epic map. I used every piece of terrain I own. 2 Ice Tundra sets, 2 Lava sets, 5 Master sets, 4 castle sets, 2 forest sets, and several pieces from boosters I've collected.

The armies were set, basic good versus evil. The map was created to be played in stages since it was so huge. At the start of Thursdays game my friend and I have played about 8 hours on the map and were only about half way complete. We started playing with almost 2000 point armies each.

We had a very unlikely scenario happen yesterday. Maybe someone can calculate the odds for me. It was a major game changer. First my opponent landed on the massive curse. He already had the lucky 20 sided glyph in his army so he was able to ensure he did not have any of his characters die. He managed to kill 3 of my 20 plus character army, but one of them was the most important figure in my army Su-Bak-Na. To add insult to injury, later he landed on the revive glyph. What do you know, he just happens to bring Su-Bak-Na back to life into his army.

What are the odd's, even with the lucky 20 sider glyph, that rolling for each of my 20 plus characters still alive, he would happen to get the roll required to kill my most important character, and then while rolling for the 20 plus characters that are in the dead pile, he would happen to roll the requirement to bring back to life my most important character into his army.

I've been trying to talk him into just accepting victory as we still need at least 4 more hours to complete the map, but it totally looks like he should destroy the rest of my army no problem. Of course it is all up to the luck of the dice, so their is still a chance that I could win, but the odds are clearly in his favor thanks to his insanely lucky turn of events.

I've been reading about the tournament coming up Dec 11th. I will not be able to attend, but I am thinking about trying to set something up like that in Michigan. I think I understand the Generals Alliance Rules, but I'm not positive. I've been telling my friends at work that basically you have to have 3 unique hero's, each must cost at least 100 points, each must be from a different group (example 1 utgar, 1 vydar, 1 jandar), and the army total must be less than or equal to 435 points. Is this understanding correct? We can not have squads?

We had 4 people show up for our small tournament at my house on Dec 11th. Started at 9am and the entire thing was over by 2PM.

Generals Alliance - Must use 3 different generals, minimum 100 points per general, maximum 435 points total army value.

Bass's Army

Major Q10
150
Nilfheim
185
Syvarris
100

Jrock's Army

4th Massachusetts Line
140
2 × 70
Isamu
10
Marcus Decimus Gallus
100
Taelord the Kyrie Warrior
180

Walnut's Army

Deathwalker 9000
140
Red Skull
190
Sir Gilbert
105

Veejay's Army

10th Regiment of Foot
75
Captain America
220
Raelin the Kyrie Warrior
80
Red Wyrmling
30
White Wyrmling
30

Main map was a variation of High Point. Final map was a variation of the bridge with a hole in it. We did not play with glyphs.

Bass 3 wins, lost 0
Jrock 2 wins, lost 1
Walnut's 1 wins, lost 2
Veejay 0 wins, lost 3

Red skull actually got lucky with the 20 sided die a couple times, but Nilfheim ruled the battle field for the most part. In all of Bass's matches he never fired a shot from Syvarris. Veejay just couldn't get the dice to do anything for him. When he needed skulls he got shields when he needed shields he got skulls.

It was a lot of fun and I hope more of you Michiganders can make it to the next one. I will try to have more notice next time. We could have supported 6 more people easily.

Well, I guess I can officially post this here now.

I am moving to Detroit around the end of April/beginning of May to attend grad school at Wayne State University. So, a few questions...

Any Heroscapers relatively close to the area? I am bringing my 'scape with me, I figured, even if I don't meet any people that play...I could try and bug whatever friends I make on campus to play (hey, never underestimate drinks, an epic map, and fun armies).

Any advice for any awesome game stores? Not necessarily any that sell Heroscape, but just all around places. The type of place where you can play a game of DnD or Magic and is totally chill and not really uptight.

New England has made me really spoiled in terms of gaming, and I've met and played with a number of awesome people (Onacara, Taeblewalker, Nyys, Bengi, Ollie, TheGuru, Darkmage7a, TomCollins2000, etc, etc) and there's a number of awesome stores. For a gamer like myself, yeah, I'm going to be a fish out of water (haha).

How about we as metro-Detrioters stop perpetuating the negative stigma of a once Great City that could be great again.

I keep hearing only good things about the city, which is making me really happy. I'm on a online dating site, a free one called OKCupid, and one of the people I've been talking to spent a few years in Boston. She flat out said to me that she'd take Detroit over anywhere in New England any day.

There is a decent gamer culture, right?

As a Wayne State Alum I welcome you to SE Michigan Mombo! Hopefully we'll see you at an upcoming tournament. Damja, and now Zbeeblebrox, have done a fantastic job of putting together regular gatherings in Fenton at BC Comix in Fenton, MI. We've had a pretty nice group of scapers each time and the emphasis lately has been more on fun than intensity.

The local gaming store for us is:

GOB Retail
28736 John R Rd
Madison Heights, MI 48071 http://gobretail.com/

It's a small store that carries a pretty large selection of Heroscape even now. There are always people gaming in the back and they even carry Summoner Wars.

Very cool!

I've been hoping to find a place/group to do some gaming with, so this makes me very happy. Being a NESA member, and playing with the likes of Onacara, Ollie, Nyys, Cleon, and Darkmage7a, I'm also one who'll play the wacky stuff rather than competitive (heck yeah I played Mezzodemon's for a General Wars tournament!). An area that has players with the same mentality is AWESOME!

I've been meaning to learn how to play "Summoner Wars" too, haha!

I will be officially moving to the area as of next week (my grad apartment move in date is next Monday).

It would be really cool to know a few gamers in the area, especially if anyone is close to Wayne State University. Feel free to shoot me a PM. I'm not just a 'scaper, I'm also a Magic Player (EDH specifically), DnD player (I also DM), and a few other misc games. The one thing that will make me the most home sick is not being able to game....

Welcome to the area Mombo101 :) Wayne State is a little ways off from me but I have a friend that lives on your side of Jackson. You may want to contact ZBeeblebrox. He and damja just ran a tournament in Fenton (see the last few posts on this thread). Hopefully I will see you at a future tournament. I know U of M and MSU both used to have tourneys and WMU for sure has one. You should try to make it to Indy for Gen Con. Rychean does an amazing job and this will be his last year hosting. Indy is a blast. Welcome, Michigan needs fresh blood... peace

Hey everybody. There's going to be a pretty casual event in South Bend, Indiana on Sunday June 19 from 3-7 PM.

The event will be held at a pretty cool community center called LangLab.

We only have 3 Master sets and 2 Marro sets worth of customized terrain to set up boards with (thanks Grishnak), so you're quite welcome to bring a board to help out the spread. There's a pretty fair number of pieces to play with, but you can bring your own armies also, but make sure you have a way to distinguish which pieces are yours.

Like I said, this is a casual game. A lot of the people will be fairly/totally new so come prepared for play for fun, not blood.

If you're interested, PM me and I'll get you directions as well as any other information you may need.

Ouch that is a haul, I was going to suggest coming down to Fenton for one of our tournaments...but that is a hike. you're still welcome to attend if you want to drive that far, any Scaper is welcome.

I'll probably begin a new thread about the next tournament soon. And I'll post here to remind all Michigan Scapers.

Yes it would be and I don't really have enough 'scape to make a tournament caliber army anyhow. But thanks for the invite and who knows what can happen in the future so I will oay attention here.

I'm in Grand Rapids! I've just started collecting with Master Set 3... What's the cheapest and best way to start collecting? I've checked craigslist, and most of the local stores seem to have boosters only. :( ebay? housemousegames?

Hey there. Here in West Michigan, you are going to be hard pressed to find a store that carries Heroscape. I keep my eyes on Craigslist, but rarely get anything through it. I order through Housemouse. I would recommend waiting for one of their sales. Another way would be through the forums here. Keep your eyes open on the sales sightings section. Ebay tends to be pricy. People want to make money there.

If you are ever interested in gaming, I'm in Muskegon and host regular Heroscape game nights, well regular in the sense of every few months.

Currently I only play my little cousin, and even that was only one time. He comes over about once every other week, barely knows how to play and is very predictable.

mrpuzzl3 is in GR, he might be up for some gaming, Rashek. I am fairly close but I am looking to get back into RPGs. Most of my weekends are spent in the Jackson area.

A NHSD for MI is totally awesome ZB. The MI 'scapers made some noise at GC and I am hoping for a good turnout. Let me know if you need any help and I will do my best to get at least a crew of four to the event.

Welcome to the site Rashek. Try your local hobby/gaming store, they may have other people looking to play. Also look into local colleges and universities, they usually have a gaming group, good luck. Oh and just try to introduce the game to people you know. Most everyone I have showed this game to have loved it... peace

I wish I had your luck with introducing the game. Most of my friends didn't care much for it. I won't be able to play much anyway, with school, soccer and all.
I'm all for a NHSD event but I can't do much with organizing.

After about a year's hiatus, my gaming group and I are looking to get back into the swing of things, but we can't find anywhere near us that still sells. Anyone near metro Detroit have stores that sell more than just RotV, FotA, and Waves 1 and 5?

I know that RIW Hobby in Livonia has the D&D Waves. At least they did 4 weeks ago.

Eh, not really looking for D&D. After some research, I realized I was gone for a bit too long. I was actually looking for some Wave 7 and Aquilla's Alliance, but it seems that's a bit too much to ask for these days since they're out of print. Thanks ZB, but it looks like I'm sticking with what I've got.

West Michigan Heroscapers-

It has been a while, but I am still in the Heroscape business, especially having attended GenCon this past August. I am planning a game day for November 12th which is a Saturday. I will set the start time as 10:00a.m. if people want to come that early. Those that are hard core can go through dinner, or perhaps you might not get here until dinner time. I'll be flexible and I won't think about kicking anyone out until after midnight. Just let me know when you will be here since I will provide snacks for lunch and we'll probably do pizza and mexican food for dinner.

When I say game day, I'm leaving it open for other games. Yes, it is primarily Heroscape that everyone likes to play at my house since I have a nice set up for it. But we have other games which people love that we won't rule out. Dominion, Settlers of Catan, Ticket to Ride, and I've even got a couple of new games that no has ever heard of like Navia Dratp and Dragonface. Invite a friend, bring a favorite game of your own, and let's have a fun day.

Looking forward to seeing you. Please RSVP to some extent. If you need directions, let me know. I'm in Muskegon.

Edit above post. I got scheduled to work, but that's okay since I have a week's notice. The game day will go on, but will not start until 4:00p.m. Let me know if you are coming since I will provide the food.

Any Michigan Scapers interested in getting together for up to 16 games of Risk Legacy? I prefer to play with people that have NOT opened any of the secret packets yet. :) As I have not opened any in my copy of the game.

I was thinking of having us all put $10 in to buy a new fresh game set to play on, so we do not have to decide whos set will get mucked up with sharpie. The winner of game 16, one game past the 15 game campaign, keeps the game set!

Maybe the game store we play in can get us a copy cheaper...

I now live in Lapeer MI, closer to flint. So the Fenton Shop is a little bit closer and an easier drive for me now.

Yes, I usually notify people through e-mail. So if you want your name added to the list, please let me know. For instance, on September 1st I am having a Heroscape night from 4:30pm through dinner into the evening. I thought I would bump this up in case we have any newbies. Sometimes for a bigger event I'll post it in the events section, but my brother and I get together quite regularly. There's always room for more though. Heheh.
