You heard me, I just introduced a new player to the game today. An old friend of mine that I just got back in touch with invited me over and I brought him a present in the form of a Heroscape Master Set. (The first one's free, ya know? ;) )
Anyway, since it was his first game we stuck to small armies of 250 points each and I let him draft his whole army before me. He picked Tarns, Marros, Samurai, and Ne-Gok-Sa. I drafted Kravs, Finn, and Zettians. We played on the Forgotten Waters (?) map from the rulebook. My approach was to take Finn and the Zettians and set up on the north hill, while the Kravs took the south pass and started picking off Tarns in the south. He advanced his Marros and Samurai towards my boosted Zettians and both his squads were taken out by my Soulborgs without a single hit on them or Finn. In the mean time, my Kravs were mopping up the Tarns as they attempted to take the hill. That left me to face only Ne-Gok-Sa who had crept just into range while Tarns were threatening to engage my Kravs. It was his turn and he sends Ne-Gok-Sa over to engage the nearest Krav which he could just barely reach, then rolls a 20! Kravs are his now. So, needing a little more firepower I send Finn out to intercept the approaching Ne-Gok-Sa, who's got two wounds at this point. Finn and the Warlord duke it out for a while resulting two more wounds for NGS before Finn falls to give his spirit to my Zettians who are still perched on the highest point in the map with Ne-Gok-Sa in their sights. Next round, he goes first. He approaches, closing half the distance, and I fire once at 3 attack (even ground), then again at 5 (2+spirit+height+targeting). His defense rolls block both shots leaving him still alive despite having only one life remaining. It was all he needed. His next move climbs Ne-Gok-Sa up to engage my lower Soulborg. He rolls a twenty. :| Game over!

Long story short, my entire army was defeated by Ne-Gok-Sa alone! (although the Tarns get part of the credit for engaging my Kravs while he got close enough to close the gap)

Who would have frickin' believed it?!? Helluva fun game, though! :D

One way to get another person addic... err, into HS'ing. Let them win the first few games and want to buy their own stuff.

trick of the trade. the person demoing the game should lose...why:

1. who wants to get into a game that they just got their butt kicked in
2. gives then a high as they walk to the wall of blisters and start down a new gaming path.

good move...lol

Sounds fun, HyperactivSloth! I just love games that turn out so unexpectedly. It is great for a player who just started playing to mindshackle. It gives them that exciting feeling, you know? Anyways, great to here that we might have another HS'er here. :D

You were using Finn's aura to boost the Zettians? The Attack Aura only works on figures with 1 range.

Sheesh, you cheated and you still lost?

no he didn't, when finn died he used his spirit.

And i thought Gok-sa could only shackle unique heros

He advanced his Marros and Samurai towards my boosted Zettians and both his squads were taken out by my Soulborgs without a single hit on them or Finn.

I was speaking of this. He mentions "boosted Zettians."

As for Ne-Gok-Sa, he can Mindshackle both Heroes and Squads, but only Uniques.

Yeah, Imagine Ne-Gok-Sa shackling 20 4th mass liners! sweet

Sorry, rereading that sentence it is a bit misleading. It was partly a Freudian slip of what my plan had been (to suicide Finn before even using the Zettians), and the fact that the Zettians had height over all the opponents figs and the second Zettian's own ability for one to "boost" the other.

In other words, my reference to them as being "boosted" was because they were always rolling at least 3 dice even before Finn died combined with the fact that I had intended for Finn to die and "boost" them much sooner than he did. So, "boost" in the first case meant "with height advantage and sometimes targeting", but in the second case meant "with an extra die from Finn".

Yeah, I'm even confusing myself at this point. :P
