View Full Version : Ornak or Tornak?

Here is a Heavy Grut army I'm been tinkering with:

Ornak 100
Grimnak 120
2x Heavy Gruts 140
Deathwalker 9000 140
Total: 500 (11 figures)

The ability to get in a chomp and an explosion in one turn appeals to me, and I like having the possibility of rolling 4 attack dice + Orc Battle Cry Aura. But after Grimnak or DW dies the combo looses a lot of punch. Should I substitute Ornak for Tornak? I could just switch to regular Gruts to use both, but then I'd have to go out and buy more Wave 1.

Any ideas?

I prefer Tornak here. Sadly, Chompy will pass away far sooner than you'd like and Tornak has the speed to catch up to the army at that point and take over as a booster. Ornak is nice, but Chompy is one of the worst heroes to use his power on as it separates Chompy from his Orcs and paints a nice big bullseye on him out in front with that low defense. If you insist on using Ornak, I strongly recommend against using his power the first round.

Here is another possibility:

Ornak 100
Tornak 100
2x Heavy Gruts 140
Me-Burq-Sa 50
Ne-Gok-Sa 90
Total: 500 (12 figures)

In this version I could still move every unit with 3 order markers. I'd kinda like more ranged support than just MBS; I view him as more of an vanguard figure.

If nobody here has yet crunched the numbers for the benefit of Ornak's Orc Battle Cry Aura I should do that now.

Aldin's advice is good. I have found Ornak more effective with non-orc armies. That said, I might recommend

Ornak 100
Krug 120
Chompy 120
Blade Gruts x 2 80
Arrow Gruts x 2 80
500 points

There's no heavy gruts and you still have the problem of separating chompy from your orc warriors; however, if you keep your orc warriors with ornak and move them into battle first, you can use Ornak's ability to bring in chompy and Krug on the second round and use them subsequent rounds to have a nice Krug/Chompy attack combo; or, never use it at all; the key is to keep bonding going, but Ornak could allow your heroes to have a combined attack when everyone in your army is in the thick of battle.

That being said: Aldin's advice is probably best -- I have found Chompy and Heavy Gruts a combination to be reckoned with. They are very powerful when used together. Ornak just messes things up.
