I was introduced to a game called Battlelords of the 23rd Century while I was in High School years and years ago. One of my Shadowrun players was telling me about the game and it peeked my interests, so he ran me and a few of the players in my game group on a few scenarios and I fell in love with this game. It's used to be a rare find and still tends to be to this day, unless you order directly through the company themselves.

The premises of the game is in the 23rd century, corperations rule the galaxy and war for space, planets, resources throughout the galaxy. You as a player, are pretty much a merc for hired in by the corp to do as they say, fighting in wars of a planet or mining station, to assassinations, B&E, ect..

The game itself ran off a D% system. If you had a plasma weapon skill at 36, you would need to roll a 36 or lower in order to "hit". I loved the way combat ran. Your total hit points were split into locations on your body (Body armor was handle in the same manor, which was kinda like extra location HP). You could go into combat and lose a limb, only to have a cyberlimb replacement for it when you got back from your mission.

The races were out there. All types, Humans, Gen-Humans (Altered Humans), Fott (Redneck Bunnies), Ram Pythons (Brutish, dumb lizard men), Phentari (A cross between a preditor and a mind flayer, but with 4 arms), and the list goes on and on.

I haven't checked out anything recently (No idea if rules have been drasticly changed like so many other games still in publication these days), but I'm pretty sure I played 2nd or 3rd edition. I found it an excellent Pen and Paper RPG game. It was never very popular and I know when I normally bring this game up I just get blank stares. Just wondering if there was anyone out there who has ever checked this game out, specially newer editions of the game, and how others thought of it.

You can check the game out here.

I have a bunch of these books, but it's not my bag. If your idea of an RPG is to pretend to be someone who kills a lot of people, then it should be OK. If, on the other hand, you enjoy character development, dialog, and story, it leaves a little to be desired.

My overall summary of the game is that it's great if all you want to do is blow stuff up.
