I will be attending DragonCon in Atlanta this year. This will be my first time attending and I was wondering if Heroscape had a presence there at all in times gone past.

Also, while on the subject. Is there anything else I need to know to get ready for DragonCon?

Lastly, is anyone else on here planning on attending as well?

Yes, I played in a heroscape tournament there last year. I totally wasn't expecting it so I didn't bring any of my stuff and ended up borrowing some master set figs from the guy running the tournament. There were about 14 players I believe.

That would have been me man,
and aye I plan on running another again this year, though like last year I should have MS fiqures(and possibly ones from the new MS set if it comes out in time) but b/c I travel from DFW( texas) I dont bring my fiq's for use..hehehe bring terrain is hard enough!! it took up half my car last year!

I'll have info as it gets closer to that time, around June area.

Last year was a blast, bit chaotic but totally fun, and Ive learned a bunch from it so this year should go much smoother.

As to DragonCon..be prepared for lotsa and lotsa of ppl, lotsa parties, lotsa stuff going on...and no sleep!. oh and costumes!

also ye plan on staying there? we' always stay at the hyatt itself.

cheers

I definitely look forward to playing some heroscape with a few new faces. Will we be able to bring premade armies? Say around 500pts? Or is it going to be a draft?

I won't be staying in atlanta as I only live about 30min away. Oh and yes I will have a costume. My girlfriend and I are going as jedi. Should be interesting.

Oh, thanks again for helping me out. That was when I first found out about these boards even though it still took me a few months to sign up.

Oooooooh I wanna play!!!!

My oldest brother (42) has been goin to Dragon Con for the past few years and has been begging me to come. Myself (30) am now in a position where I can make my own schedule and I'm almost 99% positive I will be making the event. (mostly because the wife doesnt seem too happy about me goin to Gencon so DRAGONCON it is!!)

I'm not sure if I'll be flying or driving so the closer it comes to the event then I'll have a better idea about what I can bring,

(own 5 ms 5 RttFF 1 TT 1 VW and every booster released with multiples of most :)

Looking forward to it!!!

hehe I've gone to D'Con for the past 3-4 yrs now straight, and I used to go yrs ago when I was in HS.

likely the tourney will be 400 pt armies as that is the standard, and it allows for somewhat quicker games...last year we ran 4 rounds and if I remember right 2 playoff rounds.

costumes...hehehe ye've likely seen me there as Jesus...though last year I didna spend to much time in costume due to being semi sick.

but basics from my tourney last yr:

400 pt armies,
I'll have all terrain that is needed(though I might ask for smeone to bring enough for one or two maps, I brought enough for 8 maps last yr).
1 hr total time limit b/t rounds(this included pairing up, etc..)

Sounds good Rod.

I am going to be attending all four days as far as I know. Do you know which day you plan on doing to tournament this year? Or do we need to wait until it is closer to the time.

Sorry to double post but I had another question.

Would it be possible for the tournament to be a 500 point tournament. Increasing the point limit to such will allow for a broader spectrum of armies present. Also, the additional hundred points will only very slightly if at all increase the play time. Actually, if the hour time limit is kept then having the extra points would in no way increase the play time.

It seems to me that 500 points is slowly becoming the new tournament standard and as such would like to see that type of play represented at the tournament in Atlanta.

Just let me know what you think.

:D

Also, before I forget, do you have any idea of what maps you are going to use. It would be very useful to know before hand. My group of players that are planning on playing in the tournament are dying to start practicing now.

Thanks for your help.

as to which day, I won't know until D'con opens up registration, etc.
but Im gonna try for sunday again like last year.

500 vs 400 pt armies...it doesna seem much and it's not really but the maps I used last yr were all official maps that were more 400 point friendly..I'd prefer 400 pt also just due to fact that it's easier for me/other to help a new player build an army that day if they join.

time limit: same thing, we started at noon, and didna get finished til around 7 as I remember after everything.

Maps, again I wont post up til it gets closer but likely I'll be setting up a thread for ppl to submit smaller maps, that was quick to setup and well balanced....and due to space I won't be toting much in way of ice, tree's, castle myself due to space...

last year was first I saw of heroscape at D'Con myself, and a few of the dealers had sets...if ye call selling drones/minions for 40 a deal or another selling the RttFF set for 65..so hopefully there will be more exposure this year.
Also I had problems with the con itself on space..they shorted me 4 tables for some reason which we got sorted out quite nicely, but than again they had 2/3 space dedicated to dreamblade and horrorclix..

Hmm, true enough. It is going to be weird adjusting back down to 400pts but should be ok I guess. Just let me know if you change your mind. :D

ye'll be sure to hear man, as I'll have hard info at the time game reg opens for d'con.
and I'll be posting a thread for ppl to submit maps up likely towards the end of april/may....I'm hoping we get firm info for marvelscape and/or swarm of the marro sets, and to have at least one of them used for maps at D'con.

I have been to the last 3 Dragon cons but i had no idea there was a tourny last year. With so much stuff going on at DC i wont beat myself up to much for missing it.

But ill make it a point to show up for it this year, so id appreciate it if you kept us informed about it. :)
