That's their logo ^^^ right there. I want to go. Here's all the info about them via their website:

How would ya'll feel about 4/21, two Saturdays after Easter? The place is in Pauls Valley, OK. It's about 150 miles north of Dallas. It should take about 1.5 to 2 hours to get there. I'm taking my son.

If anyone would like to join us, please post here. I'd like to get a group of D/FW Scapers together to go. Okies and folks from other states are welcome to join us as well.

I know this is not a game day, but there are enough toy collectors and enthusiasts here that I thought someone might enjoy going. I'll wait until Monday of next week to see what the interest level is. After that I'll call the museum and see if they can get us a group rate.

Lemme know. :D

Is there a better date? I'm open. I picked this one so as not to interfere w/Easter. Suggestions?

Saturdays are bad for me. In fact, if we don't schedule the worst tourney soon I will not be able to attend.

Well, it's been almost a year and I finally made it out to this place. My son and I left our home at 10:30 yesterday morning. We stopped for breakfast at Michael's Kitchen in Denton. Breakfast was nice, but if you eat the buffet, stick with the french toast and avoid the pancakes (just bisquick mix - sux). ;)

It took us about an hour and a half to get there. Along the way in Ardmore, OK, we saw a store from IH 35 that proclaimed "Christie's Toybox". We made note of it to check it out on the return trip if we had a chance (more on this debacle later). We arrived at the museum around 12:30 PM and were greeted by an employee. It turned out he was a few years older than me, but hailed from my own hometown of Garland, TX.

We went in and started looking at toys. Lord there were a few toys there. :D We took many pictures, and I will get them up here, but my they are on my son's camera for now.

The owner/curator Kevin Stark arrived and began working on an Iron Man display. They are having a special next weekend and if you come dressed as Iron Man, you get in free. I would have loved to do this, but already have commitments for next Saturday. Anyway, we got some great chances to talk to Kevin. It turns out he is a local artist. He has his own comic, Geezer, and a band called Squeaky Burger.

Kevin was very cool. He brought my son and I to his studio (about a block away) and gave my son an autographed Geezer comic and a Cyberman action figure. He gave me a copy of Squeaky Burger's CD. Kevin was an excellent and awesome host. He said the museum gives out comics instead of candy at Halloween, so I might have to make another trip - strictly because my son wants to! ;)

We were already having a great trip, but Kevin's over the top hospitality, personal attention, and general awesomeness made the trip all the more fun. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone just to see the museum and hopefully get to meet Kevin.

<rant>Now the downside of the trip - NOTHING TO DO W/THE AWESOMENESS OF THE MUSEUM :!: IF YOU ARE BRINGING CHILDREN, DO NOT MAKE THE MISTAKE OF GOING TO CHRISTIE'S TOYBOX! I'm no slouch when it comes to paying attention to details like this, but this store really pissed me off. I will admit, that I am toy-oriented and we had action figures on the brain. I thought that the worst case scenario would be that we would walk into a doll shop. WRONG!

It turns out that Christie's Toybox is an adult oriented business. Nowhere on the front of this store does it make this apparent. There were no signs stating this or setting an age limit for entrance to the store. This store is in a nice part of town and a new shopping center. We were not in a seedy area. We gathered our things and prepared to enter. Other customers saw my son and I guess they notified the proprietor. My son (8 years old) got to the door of the business a few seconds ahead of me (in his usual enthusiastic fashion). The door was propped open so that anyone casually walking by could see inside. The employee about broke her neck running to the door to announce to me that this was an "Adult Store." We just turned around and headed out.

I'm still furious at the store's lack of precautions regarding the sensitive material they sell. Ardmore's City Council will be getting a letter from me. I don't mind what they sell in that store. I do mind very much that they are not being vigilant enough to protect unwitting consumers and that they are not properly representing the contents of their store.
</rant>

In summary, go to the Action Figure Museum, avoid Christie's Toybox (unless your significant other is into action figures and the only other person w/you). ;)

If an admin reads this, I can't edit the title in the first post. Is this a new site glitch?
