Can't say I feel the urge to play any of those, but if were talking card games, the best I've played are...

Battle Line
Mystery Rummy: Jack the Ripper

Both are very cheap too and require no add-ons or expansion packs to waste your money on. (Mystery Rummy under $10 with shipping, Battle Line with shipping about $15)

Sorry to say but all will be expensive if you really want to get into the game. Cheapest would be the first two probably.

You should play the Marvel trading card game.

The only one of the above I know anything about is Yu-Gi-Oh - my son plays/collects it. Usually one can find the structure decks for about $10 - that's not too bad. Buying booster packs of the cards can add up quickly though, as I'm sure is the case with all the blind purchase stuff. After avoiding the suckhole of blind purchases myself, I finally fell prey to Dreamblade, so I can no longer scoff

I've played quite a bit of Yu-Gi-Oh as a result of my son's predilection, and from what I expected, it's a surprisingly robust game, with lots of strategy and pretty fun, too.

I was observing some WOW at my local gaming store, it doesn't looks half bad. I also visited its site and learned about the rules. I say WOW, but I use to really be into Yu-gi-oh. They will all eventually burn a hole in your wallet though.

I think all blind purchase card games are going to cost a lot if you want to be "competitive" in a tourney sense. If you just want to get some decks and have fun with your buddies, I'd go with Magic The Gathering or Pirates, not the ones you listed. Pirates is really a minis game made out of cards, but it's sold in blind packs like card games for roughly the same cost, so I often consider it when talking about such games.

I also recommend Guillotine or Killer Bunnies. Guillotine is a self-contained card game that's quick and fun. Killer Bunnies is expandable in non-blind, sequenced sets....you buy this expansion and then that one and so on, in a certain order. No expansions are needed, but they all add a bit more craziness to the game. It's a fun game for large groups...sort of a party card game that will rarely fail to make people laugh.

Rack-O is a solid older card game that can often be found for cheap...a self-contained set. The newer versions have special rules and cards to add a bit of variety.

There are a lot of good non-collectible stand alone card games.

Blue Moon is expandable and non-collectible. I enjoy it a lot, it reminds me a lot of Magic.
Dungeoneer is an expandable and non-collectible dungeon crawling card game.

Lost Cities
Jambo
Castle
San Juan
Odin's Ravens
Balloon Cup

As far as collectible card games go, Magic is the best. I spent a lot of time playing that in High School. Since I don't have the money to play that competitvely anymore, I am really digging Hecatomb, not only does it have an interesting theme and a really cool mechanic its extremely cheap right now on eBay, like $10-15 for a booster box or starter box.

I don't like Pirates of Spanish Main. I liked it at first, but the more I played it the more I started to realize that it was lame. The ships are really cool and look awesome, but to me, for something that should be really awesome, the gameplay is lacking. It was fun for awhile...

Cheap TCG?

That should be Oxymoron of the Month!

Out of those I would say pokemon, I play it a lot and it's pretty good. But if it's cheap you're looking for, then I would try to find
a non-TCG game, like some of the others suggested. There is no way you are going to build a competetive deck in any of those
games without spending a lot. (unless you have really generous friends who already have some)

A standard deck of cards to me provides more fun with one deck than all of those combined.

Euchre, Texas Holdem', Solitaire, Egyptian Rat Screw, Bull Sh*t, the list goes on and on.

And the deck only cost 2 dollars.

CCGs =/= cheap. But if you're looking for a fun, cheap card game (not including traditional playing cards) I would recommend Fluxx: http://www.wunderland.com/LooneyLabs/Fluxx/. It's very simple to learn, fast to play, and different every single time.

I agree with others, Magic is probably the best card game you can find out there. I don't find myself spending a lot of money on it, because A) I don't buy expansions and B) If I am looking for a specific card, my local gamestore has it.

Wizard. Bohnanza. San Juan. Lost Cities.

If it needs to be "collectable" in some way, Blue Moon.

But not, under any circumstances, POkemon, Yu Gi Oh, Magic the Gathering or any of those horri collectable card games. Except Netrunner, of course. Netrunner was superb, but died out when people realised that it was perfectly playable with just a starter deck, and that adding 3,000 extra cards was never going to improve on that.

Poker - top card game...

Of those you listed, if you are gonna really get into it you have 2 choices...

WoW is new, therefore to collect it all and have all the cards for tournaments, it will be cheaper than the others, just because it's new.

However, the track record for CCGs is horrible. Hundreds have been made and few survive. Yugi and Poke are still with us but waning. Magic and VS are still healthy.

If you're just buying for fun playing, buy what you will have opponents to play against. Buy what you will be able to play. And that is up to what game people in your world are playing...

I must mention Flying Buffalo's Nuclear War card game sets:

Linky. (http://www.flyingbuffalo.com/nucwar.htm)

Nuclear War
Nuclear Escalation
Nuclear Proliferation
and the new-ish
Weapons of Mass Destruction

$30 for most, but I think WMD is only $20.
Each set can be played independently, and usually everyone dies!

Hot Lava Death, ha! Try Hot Nuclear Death.

I can't believe that Nuclear War is over 40 years old now....

San Juan is easily my favorite card game. It might seem a little pricey for what it is (deck of cards with some cardboard tiles) but it really is fantastic.

If you're looking for something anime-based, I would suggestion Wizards of the Coast's Duel Masters CCG. It's actually really, really fun. It's also dirt cheap on ebay (booster boxes = $10.00 for the newer stuff, the older stuff still catches 20-40 a booster box). There are several different types of decks to build, depending on your play style (aggro, contol, discard, damage, ect.). But, the card pool is much, much more limited than say, Yugioh or Pokemon, since Duel Masters only saw 10 expansions, which is a very good thing if you're just getting into playing CCGs. It's easy to learn, and plays very quickly.

I'll also echo nether's praise of Hecatomb, I also think this is a really neat CCG.

I have heard good things about the WoW card game, but have, and probably never will, play it. I have no experience with Yu-Gi-Oh, and limited experience with Pokemon.

All of the non-collectable card games mentioned are also incredibly good. I'd like to add Scarab Lords to the list of good, non collectible card games.

The only one I've played is Yugioh. My sons like it so I picked up two structure decks. Based on my VERY limited knowledge, the structure decks seems to be a very good value as they seem to be better than the normal starter decks. But what do I know....

I've never gotten into any CCG's. The whole idea of a blind booster just rubs me the wrong way. My brother was into Magic when it first came out. I played that a couple of times with him. It was fun, but I didn't find it addictive the same way he did.

Some non-collectable card games I like:
San Juan
Citadels
Munchkin
Gloom
...and of course you can't go wrong with a deck of plain-old playing cards and a copy of Hoyle's!

I'm not a big fan of Killer Bunnies. The actual game play is fun, but the win-conditions suck. Until someone comes up with a way to fix the endgame I consider this one broken.

That answer is so old that someone should get it a pipe and slippers.

I mean no disrespect, and I actually do like Cribbage, but in a thread where Yu-Gi-Oh is mentioned and cribbage pops up?

Hey, we were looking for cheap right? There are tons of neat little card games you can get, Milborne, anything with a normal deck of cards, Lord of the Fries (a new acquisition of mine, very goofy) and the list can go on. If you want cheap stay away from the CCGs.

I love this series of games! Started playing in HS many years ago. I will have to look for that one in my boxes of old stuff my family might like playing that one.

I can't believe that Nuclear War is over 40 years old now....

WOW!!! 40 years old but it really still holds up.

I also remember having a lot of fun with a card game called "wrasslin'" from Avalon Hill

LOL

When I read the title my first thoughts were Spades, Hearts, Cribbage, Gin, Bridge, etc. I buy regular playing cards 10 decks at a time and sometimes pay less than $1 a deck. Last year my son was stunned to see me playing Solitare with real cards...he thought it was only on the computer.

My son tried his hand at Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh but found them a bit simple (he's 9). I haven't seen WoW yet so have no opinion.

If you have a lot of money up front then any CCG becomes inexpensive in the long-run. When MtG first came out I had a friend with a comic book store who let me mass order through him. I bought 20 boxes of the Unlimited. I was able to fill a binder with 4 of everything and still have a lot left over. Once the first expansion came out I was able to sell enough excess rares to buy 10 boxes. Again I pulled out what I wanted and sold the rest. This cycle continued through my entire MtG years. I never spent any more of my money outside of those original 20 boxes.(admittedly nowadays that would probably be over $4000)

Any CCG can be as cheap or expensive as you want to make it. It mainly depends on peer pressure as how much money you have.
