This probably doesn't warrant its own thread, but I ran to TRU in Madison over my lunch break. Much to my pleasent suprise, they had doubled the size of the Heroscape shelf space including having 9 facings of Expansion packs! :o

Then I started looking, 2 pks of Warriors/Solbergs, 1 pack of Ninja/Samurai, and no less than 22 packs of Nakitas/Galdiators.

That p*ssed me off so bad, that I may never use the Nakitas again because I am so sick of seeing their faces. Gee, I wonder why there's no Wave 6?????

There were a bunch of lava and the last large hero packs and a few castles, FWIW.

Maybe if they are expanding the section they are getting ready for a sale...I'm sick of the Agents all over as well, for some reason they are everywhere, I like em on the battle field but am tired of seeing them in the stores...It'd be nice if TRU would be consistent with there prices as well, online prices are different than store prices. I've been thru this before in a different thread and had responses as to why they won't match there own online prices etc...but, then again outside of exclusives I wouldn't spend my money at TRU they are too expensive in comparison to Target and Walmart...and Kmart clearance...

Yep they restocked my local TRU as well.. lots of master sets, lots of castles, lots of ice, lots of lava... lots of orms.. lots of raknars... lots of nakitas and wave 5 out the yinyang...

They wont sell wave 6 until all that wave 5 crap they overstocked a year ago is sold off. ;)

Hasbro needs to repackage the waves... so there is maybe 2 or 3 waves per box, and at least 2 of each package in each... so there is 8-12 boxes per box, not 4... and TRU needs to learn to order variety not quantitiy.

This isn't really TRU's fault. It has to do with case packaging and the buying demographic.

When a major retail outlet receives HS from their warehouse that was received from Hasbro, they receive a case that contains all of a given wave (1 box or many boxes). They cannot order only Samurai and Ninjas or choose not to order Nakitas, etc. They can't even say they want wave 1 or wave 5 or wave 6. They just order HS booster packs and get what is in the warehouse.

So in comes wave 5. The buying demographic snaps up the soulborgs and the ninjas/samurai. The Nakitas/Gladiators and the WoA/Rats sit. The main buying demographic (read 8-12 YO boys) doesn't want 'girly' units. Everything else sells, the Nakitas and WoA sit on the shelf. The store doesn't 'see' a difference in units. They still have 20+ HS boosters on the shelf. They don't order any more.

I just got back from my local TRU and was mildly surprised at what i found.

They had a First Edition MS sitting on the clearance shelf for $29.99!!

I of course, snatched it up immediately!!

They also just got in a bunch of Collection 4 expansions so I grabbed a Greeks & Vipers.
I like the snakey thingys. :screwy:

Anyway,
They have a whole bunch of the castle sets (15-20??), I wish the Hell they'd put um on sale!!! :grumble: :grumble: :grumble:

They got in a few more Tundra sets and still had 2 Lava sets left.
And they have about 10 'Orms Return' set's too.

No Collection 6 stuff yet though.

I hope some comes soon.

I see the Nakitas all over the place too. Everyone wants the common armies and then just 1 of the uniques. Hasbro doesn't seem to allowing ordering of anything less than the full wave though. Kind of crazy, you'd think they would make more of the common unit expansions.

This doesn't seem to be a unique vs common thing. Hero pack typically sell as well or better than commons. Since the female elf pack isn't selling so well either then it could be that females aren't selling well.

I agree with every post above. I never thought about the "sexist" :) young buyers though.

I'm suprised the Warriors of Ashra aren't wearing thongs

I should also add that the Walmart 1 mile away had the same selection only 1/8th the size. They flipped the store this weekend apparently and now the kiddy pools and beach toys are in. Its only 25 degrees with 3 feet of snow around here. "Hey honey, let go buy and inflatable dolphin, it broke the 20 degree point today."

Looks like shopping online will be big. But companies will stop buying heroscape to sell if it didn't sell at stores. Hasbro limited supply and the wait to get something back instock is unbearable.

The Nakitas are visually unpleasing, that I shutter when I walk in the HS aisle as I see them from a distance. What kid is going to say "oh look, ugly chicks, I want multiple packs!" On top of that, the nakitas are at the top in the package and that is the first thing you see. The gladiators are not much better to me, visually. I'm glad they packaged the ninja/samurai in a package of their own. I'd hate to have to buy Nakitas for ninjas or samurai.

March 8th, 2007, 09:07 PM
I know the TRU you speak of well Mr. BP.
I'm hoping there won't be anymore TRU exclusives and I'll never have to go back to that store.

I called that store once around the time of the FB's release and the employee flat out lied to me. He acted like he was checking it out on the computer,
I could hear him banging on the keys.

"Um sir, yeah, it looks like we won't ever be stocking this item."

"Brian, (He had given me his name) why are you lying to me?"

Long silence.
"Okay Brian, I'll check back next week."

I called back the next week and got the manager to tell me when.
I would have been pissed, had it not felt so good to call that guy out.
He was lying, and we both knew it.

MrBarkypants
March 8th, 2007, 11:06 PM
That's sad and funny. I had the same experince with a TRU in Appleton a few week ago. "No we don't stock that." I went there and they had the largest Heroscape area that I've seen in any store.

I love those "lying employee" stories. If that ever happened to me, I'd definitely report the guy. After all, if they fire him doesn't that improve the complete, overall customer experience?

I saw 10+ nakita packs in WM the other day, along with about 20 MS and some odds and ends. I'm probably going to have to get 6&7 from HouseMouse or someplace online.

MrBarkypants

These are the kinds of threads I wish/hope the major retailers and Hasbro would read.

We're "all" going to start buying online, which means it won't sell in the stores, which means the stores won't buy any, which means Hasbro's corporate sales go down, which means... I hate the "slippery slope" philosophy, but they better at least be aware of the potential here.

Toylines that are aimed at young boys do not sell female figures well. That's just a proven fact of sales dating back many, many years.

It's why Scarlett is a main character in GI Joe Sigma Six the cartoon, but they haven't bothered to make a figure of her yet - because the older GI Joe female figures never sold well.

And yet... until Wave 5 arrived, there was constant clamoring from a vocal minority on this board about "where are all the female figures?" Adult collectors will buy them, sure. But not the target audience (and apparently majority of buyers).

Don't expect Hasbro to authorize another all-female squad again unless it comes packed with something super "kewl" to balance it out.

Being an all-female squad in and of its self may not have doomed Nikita sales. I suspect it’s the combination of an all-female and Unique squad that has made it a slow mover. Nikita’s probably are last on the shopping list of the target demographic. The Heroscapers demographic, however, might have made up for the difference if Nikita’s were Common. Like many on this site, I buy single packs of Uniques, but multiple packs of Commons and would have bought multiple packs of Nikita’s if they had been Commons.

I just want to echo others - I'm SICK of seeing endless Wave 5 packs everywhere. This also makes me a hypocite too - I don't own any of it, but it's become a bit of a vicious circle: the more I see it, the more determined I am not to buy it.

As far as Wal-Marts go, anyway, all this stuff is either going to get blown out on clearance, or we'll never see another wave beyond 5 there. Either way, if I were a corporate buyer, I'm not sure why I would possibly keep giving shelf space to expansions.

Not true. When the Lady Death comic was first published I did not pick it up as I did not want to offend my (at the time) wife with the comic about a chick in very little clothing carrying a very big sword. Long story short, Lady Death eventually becomes her fav comic because (A) Lady Death looked similar (at the time) to my now ex-wife and (B) she enjoyed the empowerment message.

Seriously, the women offended by fantasy imagery have definite issues. Run, run very fast away from them. NOW! GO! I mean when was the last time you heard a guy complain about a big muscle dude in fantasy art? Um, never. As a guy, our masculinity is not threatened by something that is imaginary. As a guy, we do not believe we have to live up to the body types portrayed in games and media We understand the term Fantasy Art is not to be taken literally. You only hear these complaints from the man-hating-women's-ib psychos that want other women to hate men as much as they do.

I think it's a little of both boys don't like girl stuff, and the poorly made sculpts. Solution...Chicks in power armor. They would be more in fitting with the G-nators, be reinforcements for Vydar, and would sell off the shelves. Also make them common and package them with a cool squad of heck anything and they will sell. I get tired of seeing lame sculpts and lame power/storylines for the girls. What about amazons based on the historical version with one breast each and a serious anger management problem. What about the female Celts who fought with Queen Bodicca? Something, anything, that boys can kill with be it female or male will get them to buy it. I loved my brothers Scarlett, and he bought it because she was cool.

I never understood this "yuck" or lack of interest issue boys have with girls. As far back as I can remember I was always crazy about them. If I was still a kid and played Heroscape I'd definitely use female figures, if they looked good. And I don't mean "looked good" as in chainmail bikini hot, but cool. They could ditch the tight pants too. (Call me weird, but there is something really sexy about a woman in full armor.)

The problem with the Nikitias is not that they are female but that they are so damn ugly, probably the ugliest sculpts in the entire game. Even my girlfriend (who wishes there were more cool female figures in the game) thinks so. She's also made the "big booty" and stupid hair-dos comment.

As for the Warriors of Ashra, I don't understand why people think they're so ugly. We actually think they look pretty cool, and were a step in the right direction. The ninja chick too: cool and sexy without being sexist. Sadly though (at least for my girlfriend), I think that other than the new martial arts woman in the Marro master set (and the Raelin re-release) we'll be seeing very few new female figures this year.

IMHO, WAVE 5's are still around because of the Unique/Common factor mostly.

At least in my area, there's a a whole bunch of Orm's Return's around also, which kinda supports this.

If the "Ladies" had been Common there at least would be a reason to buy multiples of them.

I have at least two sets of each the "COMMON Squads" now, but only one each of the Unique Expansion packs.

BTW: My local Wally-World just got another case of Expansion 5....

I would say it's a mixture. I just don't buy from TRU anymore. That sounds bad. I have never seen more than five of the Nakita's before. I would tell them thatno one buys that pack. Or go buy them all and donate them to TFT. Then they will restock with wave 6.

Being an all-female squad in and of its self may not have doomed Nikita sales. I suspect it’s the combination of an all-female and Unique squad that has made it a slow mover.

It may be a combination of the two, but I still think that the female part is playing the larger role for two reasons.

(1) Hero set typically sell as well or better than most common packs, and

(2) The elf woman squad is also piling up around here.

I have to agree. The only packs at the local Wallyworld are the Nakitas and the Ashra. There are one or two of the Warriors of Ashra, and a bajillion of the Nakitas. The common/unique part is a major factor, but the female squad (with not so savory sculpts) thing may be the icing on the cake. Now that I think about it the Ninja/Samurai pack is an all unique and it isn't on the shelves. They are just cooler to the target demographic.

"Junior, you can only get one, do you want the white spandex girls, or the ninjas and samurais?"

"Dad, is that a trick question?"

The Warriors of Ashra at least come with a nice squad in the Deathreavers, so their not selling as well can only be described by the plumbing. The Nakitas would be selling better as commons. The Blastatrons are common and have the movement bonding, so it isn't that far fetched. If they had some power armor, as has been mentioned, they'd be even better, but they'd also be a bit more expensive.

Something else that shouldn't be overlooked is that the squad they bond with is not very easily obtained at the moment. Take the kid that sees them at his friend's house. If the poor sap thinking about buying them believes some of the "wave 3 is out of print" idiots on ebay they might pass on buying them.

My kids selected the Warriors of Ashra/Deathreavers and Nakita Agents/Gladiators over Heroes of Trollsford and the Deathstalkers/Blastatrons specifically because they were all-female squads.

Of course, my kids are all girls.

The Nakita Agents don't get a lot of play, though, whereas the Warriors of Ashra are on the table in virtually every game they play.

I hit the local walmart... and found not only a Original Master set...but upon further investigating .for one of the end isle shelves FULL of expansion sets...
they had about everything you'd expect with the exception of the Knights...sure they had plenty of nikkita agents , but alot more...both viper sets , roman legion...ect..

now if I could only find the Knights and minute men...

I never thought about it that way, but now that you mention it, it makes perfect sense! Thank you, because I've really been wondering why on earth I'm still seeing bunches of WoA+Rats (Common Squads) on the shelves along with the Nakitas (Unique), but no Ninjas/Samurai (also Unique). Considering that the current supply is that way throughout multiple stores across the entire Detroit metro area, it's the best plausible theory I've heard that can explain this phenomenon.

In Dayton we have a mix - some stores, chiefly Wal-Marts and Meijers, have a lot of the Gladiators and Agents. Others have none, and one K-Mart is about a third Ninjas and Samurai, a third Lawmen and Samurai, and the rest mixed (but no Nakitas).

Is it just my imagination, or did TRU just raise prices to $13.99 for expansions and $42.99 for MS's?

I was thinking they were still 12.99 and 39.99 last time I checked.

That's true for the moment, but Sandra @ HMG said that there is a price increase coming down the pipes.

The TRU I work at hasnt raised its prices. And they seems to be selling wave 5 and the lava and trundra sets pretty strong. They cant keep the tundra on the sleves longer then the day they are put out but the rest of the sets seem to just sit till the weekends and then they dissapear.

I can see it now . . . thousands of Nakitas and Gladiators crushed by a bulldozer and lying under a giant concrete block somewhere in the desert of New Mexico. . . .

Not if they used smoke powder. Besides, if the driver was smart he would be wary of all of those engagement strikes.
