There was a battle in the Boer War (late 1890's, Afrikaans militia & hunters vs. British Army) where a British commander captured a strategic hill. The militia were mobilized, though not exactly in time, and had to face riflemen already posted on the ledge. Yet through sneaking around in the brush and shooting at every redcoat face they could aim at, they were able to whittle down their foes & retake the hill.
I tried this battle with a single Airborne squad perched on a hill (4 attack, 3 defense) against a single Krav squad backed by Raelin on the plain below (3 attack, 5 stealth dodge defense). Here's how it went...
Round 1, initiative AE.
Sound and fury, but both sides wasted a lot of ammo.
Round 2, initiative Krav.
The first paratrooper falls but his comrades take revenge and shoot 2 Kravs. 3 AE 1 K
Round 3, initiative Krav.
The lone agent brings down his foes to 2.
Round 4, initiative Krav,
This guy is hot! Now it's mano a mano.
Round 5, initiative AE.
The last fallschirmjager puts in his best sniping... the agent dodges like one of those Matrix guys... fires both pistols... and the trooper gets two skulls on his roll.
I'd be glad to hear your suggestions for other counter-elevation units.
