Entry fee
$5 If you were not there last time
$5 If you there last time + bring a prize or bring someone new
$10 If you were there last time and don't bring anything or anyone.

I am considering bringing some food to grill. If you guys can help cover the cost (a couple of bucks each) that would be awesome.

The money will go towards in strore credit at Fun 4 All. Last time we had 2 prizes, with more people, we could have 3 this time.

Prizes
If you are planning on bringing something for the table let me know so I can add it to the list.

:jandar: A dice tower from InfinityMax. I don't know which style, but this was a really cool prize. Check out his website! http://www.vixentorgames.com/
:jandar: A VixenTor T-shirt
:jandar: A Championship Trophy This will likely be a trophy that is displayed at Fun 4 All to promote the game and generate interest. However, we will still have the travelling...
:jandar: yet to be officially named dice tower of futility currently in the possesion of monte_kev :neener:
:jandar: A $25 Gift Certificate to HMG. http://www.housemousegames.com/
:jandar: In store Credit to host store

Army

In the land a Valhalla a war rages between the forces of good and evil. Kyrie's have discovered the magical wellsprings that provide some of them with extraordinary powers. These Kyries have been called Archkyrie. The powers they wield include visions of heroic warriors of which can be summoned to help that Archkyrie in battle. It is unknown as to why certain Archkyrie see and summon the various creatures they do, but it seems as though the visions they have are a reflection of thier true personalities. While the main battle lines have been drawn between Jandar, a noble and virtuous Archkyrie, and the power-hungry, evil Utgar, each side has its allies. Ullar's allegiance lies with Jandar while Einar and Vydar currently favor the company of Utgar. On the 14th day of the 4th Moon cycle a mojor offensive will take place. You will be the Generals for your chosen Archkyrie. Which side will rule the day?

-Each player is responsible for bringing a 500 point army, order markers, dice, and wound markers (you may want to mark your figures.)
-The army must consist of heroes and squads of Allied Archkyrie only (Jandar/Ullar or Utgar/Einar/Vydar).
-If you choose to use General-Specific armies (Only one Archkyrie), you will recive a 5% bonus to the allowable points. For example, if all of your figures are Ullarian, you may choose up to 525 points to complete your army.
-No customs or proxies (repaints of official figures to create exclusives are ok.)
-No sideboarding.
-Starting zones will be 24 hexes. If your army does not fit - too bad!

Maps
-Mole Hills (http://www.heroscapers.com/download/index.php?dlid=208) (in downloads section)

A nice little map with many strategic locations for attack and some LOS blockers.

-Wolf Swamp Road (http://www.hasbro.com/heroscape/default.cfm?page=scenarios_select&battlefield=5)(official Hasbro Map)

Very Balanced Map. I like to include at least one "Official" map. Starting zones are the 24 hexes furthest back on each end. The Glyphs will be located in the midlle of the large ruin on the unprotected side and on the other side adjacent to the wall and the 11 height tree.

-Fire & Ice (http://www.heroscapers.com/download/index.php?dlid=486) (in downloads section)

Somewhat similar to the Ice/Snow map from last tourney, but a little more open. I thought it would be fun to entice someone to pick Jotun so we could all hear the chilling scream of Hot Lava Death.

-Glyphs will be used and will be randomly chosen from a pool and placed face down until the beginning of the game.

Scenarios
-All games will be a deathmatch.

Format
-Swiss style tournament.
-Each game will last up to 45 minutes. When time is up, players must finish the current round quickly.
-The winner of the game will be determined by who has the most points on the battle field at the end of the time limit if necessary.
-Points for squads will be found by dividing the point value of the card rounding decimals. For example, if you have 2 Marro warriors left when time expires you would count that as 25 points. For one unit you would earn 13 points.

-Heroes will be worth full points. In the event of a tie, heroes point values will be prorated bast on the percentage of Life they have left.

Scoring* (a slight change from last time here!)
-3 SKULLS for a win by annhilation, 2 SKULLS for a win by point, and 1 SKULL for a tie.
-Win/Loss/Time Record takes precedence over points
-The total point differential will break ties for seeding of rounds for players with the same number of SKULLS.

Set Up
I will need some help setting up maps and will need some people to bring in terrain. I will have 3 (maybe 4) maps worth of terrain, but we will need more. Set Up will take place an hour before the start of the tourney. Let me know if you can help with this.

That's it for now. More to come!

Keep me on the list...

I have been trying to create a few tournament worthy maps... but they need testing... see my link in signature for virtual scape version of the files, do not know how to do the PDFs yet...

I am also thinking of doing a tourny on my side of town... possibly one every other saturday... with summer and winter leaders, and leads up to a yearly final... it depends on a lot of things though, still planning it. I plan on keeping a room/location up 24/7 for heroscape...

My group and I may be interested in coming to this tournament. I need to talk to them but it is about an hour closer than the cincinatti trip we made, so it wouldnt be too bad. I have been up to Flint many times. This is much more south than that.

This will be a much easier trip, now that I'm in Brighton, so count me in (woops, you already have).

I may play with some map ideas, especially ones that limit the power of range, but I'm sure they'll suck.

And let me just say I like the new scoring system, even though it would likely kept me from winning last time, since I think I only won 1-2 games outright.

Can't wait! And it's just 2 days after my birthday! Like a little present for me!

If you were not there last time, your goal is to show up!

Just found out my in-laws are coming in for a visit that weekend. Many of you marriage veterans are likely saying "all the more reason to game!", but I'm still a newlywed, so...

Since I will likely not be there, I hereby declare that you should give my birthday gifts (ie - losing to me) to Monte_Kev!

Okay, that's pretty cool.

Now I'm getting very annoyed that I can't be there...

So who wants to take wagers on what the breakdown of armies will be?

I'm going with:

25% of armies will be of a single general (and thus get the bonus)
50% of armies will be Utgar/Einar/Vydar
25% of armies will be Jandar/Ullar

So what in Jandar/Ullar is a good counter to Q9 again? ;)

Tiberius
March 15th, 2007, 06:54 AM
Sounds awesome, now I have to change the army I was using, the three amigos, Q9, Nilfiem and Kaemon Awa. My friend Jesse will have to change his too as he has mixed the rats with the air borne elite and some Vydar squads. His was a solid group. Maybe a marro army will work for me.

Which glypths will be used randomly? Just from the MS or including expansion packs? Curious now.

Um, Charos and Raelin? 9 life with 5 Defense + 2 for Raelin Bonus. You could even add Kelda for healing Charos as long as you don't kill him in the attempt! Plus you could take out other figs on the way to Q9.

In regards to glyphs, will all of them be put into consideration(except Brandar I imagine) and just randomly picked and put in certain hexes? I was wondering. I'd like to practice on the maps using that concept if it is the case.

Also, are the placements of the glyphs, on each map, going to be kept secret till the day of the tourney? Thanks

The glyphs will be selected from Master Set glyphs only without Massive Curse or Brandar. The location of the glyphs is on the maps and the glyphs will be chosen before each game from a pool of face-down glyphs next to the map. Before the first round begins, the glyphs will be revealed.

What is on the first post of the thread is what the current rules are. Small adjustments might be made but in terms of the format what is listed is law!

Thanks for the info damja. I still have a question. On the Wolf Swamp Road scenario, I still do not see any glyphs on this map. I'm assuming we are using The Ambush Scenario for starting hexes since its 24. Correct me if I'm wrong. Have I missed something with the glyphs? Haha. Thanks again.

Thanks for pointing that out. I will have to figure it out. At first glance (without playtesting) I would say the the glyphs will be outside of the walls (1 on each) about 10 spaces from each starting zone.

I will probably be bringing a Nakitas wave 5 pack (since that is the only booster in this area - as in a couple dozen of them scattered throughout different stores) and a volcaren wasteland from TRU. I dont know what the other guys are bringing. Probably more Nakitas since that is all that is around here.

You'll get the Valiant Army bonus anyway...

Tiberius
March 21st, 2007, 06:47 AM
It is good, lots of range, and you will more than likely outnumber who is coming against you. If you never move anyone, that is a big 3/3, 4 person shooter army with lots of back ups in case people start tearing into you in melee. I guess you would need to move and find height as early as possible to get the extra attack and defense die. You still may have trouble with big defense figures like charos or Q9. But this army has proven itself in the past.

I think you should just leave them all in their starting spots too. Let the enemy come to you and pray they don't have DW9k. Endless reinforcements right where they need to be!

That way you can just walk away and take a bathroom break, get a drink, take a smoke at the start of every game. Think of how relaxing it will be!

Wish I could be there to watch you "hand it off" from your right hand to your left!

In other news...

Noticed a posting in the rules forum that I think has a big bearing on our particular little Q9-loving part of the community:

http://heroscapers.com/community/showthread.php?t=7493

Now, I'd heard this idea mentioned before, but always poo-pooed it as being non-canon and overly fidgety, but apparently it is in fact the official rule (Q9's LOS, that is). To my knowledge, no one played Q9 this way in the last tourney.

Methinks this at least somewhat decreases the viability of the figure.

Tiberius
March 22nd, 2007, 01:02 PM
The other tournaments I have been to enforce that rule, it doesnt really come into play as often as you would think since you get to move before attacking and if they are adjacent you can still hit right behind you. So in my opinion, it really isnt that big of a deal, it does make him a little more worth his points with that restriction though (as the common concensus is that he is underpriced).

the last place thophy has been upgraded/modified and will be ready to be handed off....

This is the only reason you beat me! You had your Q9 reversed, but I didn't want to call you on it. REMATCH!

Hey , here is an interesting point that came up last week.

In a game where there is empty space on the board, can you shoot over it?

An example is on Mole Hills. If you look at the top left starting location, there is a big piece of nothing under it. Could you shoot across that big piece of nothing?

I emailed the maker of the board since he has done quite a few, and the answer is yes with a big but. You do not count range by spaces that would go across. You count range by the perimiter of actual spaces. So you may think you are within 6 spaces if there were indeed hexes there, but because there are not, you are really more like 9. (just a guess number on spaces.)

Just an FYI.

-D

Tiberius
March 22nd, 2007, 02:46 PM
That is correct, you count the spaces around the hole for range, but as far as line of sight goes, you can "see" through the emptiness.

I just updated the first post with the third map and some short rationale for the map choices. If anyone has 2 Tundra let me know and you can be responsible for the newest map.

I might add one more map, I'm still debating.

Keep me posted on who you are bringing to play and what you are bringing for prizes.

I have a whole master set I have yet to open, ill pull the carr out of it... I planned on keeping the mimring from it... so when I ebay the rest it will be a partial set anyway...

I narrowed it down to 3 possible armies... cannot decide which one though... are the maps official? the only ones? I have a few on my site we can setup designed for tourney play... See link in my sig, they are not in the downloads or gallery, yet.

Damja,

There is a TRU about 2 miles from Fun 4 All. Instead of heading east on Washtenaw go west and it is in the plaza on the right.

So I stopped by Fun 4 All yesterday on my way over to TheMainMan's house and talked to Rich for a while. He is going to try to get some wave 1 and wave 4 in. He had 2 sets of wave 6. He has to order each wave fully so his big concern is not selling the hero packs because if he doesn't he loses money. Yes we would have to pay retail, but let's make sure that if he does get it for us that we buy most of it.

He also mentioned that there have been a few people up there asking about the tourney so we may even get some walk ins.

Thirdly, there is a grill behind the store. I was thinking about buying some meat to cook up. Who would be willing to throw a couple of more bucks in for some grub? I'm thinking hamburgers, hot dogs, and/or brats.

Let me know.

ps - I'm looking at 520 right now for my army.

Tiberius

I currently have 525 in my army, all one faction. I have play tested it and it is running about 2/3rds win rate, depending heavily on luck. So we shall see if I am on or not come the tournament.

The grilled food sounds good but the people I am bringing I doubt will have much extra money. We are planning on all bringing prizes, I have bought a volcarren wasteland and a wave 5 soulborg and elves pack for prizes. You can add those to the list if you want.

Although after Friday nights gaming, I may have to institute the team I used then. WOW!

damja
April 2nd, 2007, 09:29 AM
Unfortunately, the team you used on Friday is based on lucky d20 rolls.

Tiberius, he used a frenzy army and rolled frenzy 2, 3, or 4 times in a row for the first half of each game. Then his d20 broke. I won't say the exact army he used, but it would be fun to play in a tournament - more so than monte_kev's mindshackle army.

By the way, I am the reigning Friday night individual champion at the MainMan's. Did you hear that? It's the sound of Braxas' acid breath melting away the flesh of your puny orcs!

This is a list of what we will need. Right now I am assuming we will have about 18 people so 9 boards minimum, that would be three each for you non-math people.

I have enough terrain for one of each.

We still need 2 of each. Here are the requirements for each map:

Mole Hills - 1 MS and 1 RttFF

Wolf Swamp Road - 1 MS and 1 RttFF

Fire and Ice - 1MS, 1VW, and 1TT + 10 snow from expantions.

Let me know what you can bring and I'll keep this updated as best I can through the week.

Damja, as a comment to the wounded heroes for points thing, I think that is a must. If someone brings in charos and I get him down to one live, I expect to be compensated for my troubles. His living total should be the number of life left, not full point value.

TheMainMan
April 8th, 2007, 10:51 PM
Sorry bro, don't agree. A one life left Charos is still alive. Full point value.

damja
April 9th, 2007, 01:12 AM
Then a Krav Maga with one figure left should be full points too by that logic.

Tiberius
April 9th, 2007, 06:45 AM
right, if we have a Charos vs Charos battle, one has 7 life left, the other has 6 life left, who wins? Thier full cost includes the cost of all thier life points. Every tournament I Have been too so far (3 of them) have taken into account life point percentage as a means of determining points for tie breaking.

TheMainMan
April 9th, 2007, 08:32 AM
So is the question in case of a tie do we count the lifes left, or in a normal game?

Tiberius
April 9th, 2007, 10:25 AM
It depends how we are scoring, we will avoid alot of grief if we count the wounds if we are doing points. If not, there will be alot of tieing and alot of people getting the shaft. If we are just counting wins and points only matter in a tie, then this is less important but we should still count the wounds in my opinion.

monte_kev
April 9th, 2007, 10:34 AM
any other game I play counts points by models "killed" os if a one has been dropped by one model it has been killed thus take the points accordingly.

If a hero is not dead then he is worth full points.

the only time this will come up is in the case of a tie..but its bad to tie....so done't TIE, KILL kILL KILLL!!!!!

I second the vote that a hero is worth full points untill DEAD!!!!

monte_kev
April 9th, 2007, 10:40 AM
If someone brings in charos and I get him down to one live, I expect to be compensated for my troubles.

to repeat my post above, I think that charos should be rewarded for holding off the onslought and being worth his points. and also you should not be rewarded for "almost" doing somthing ;) battle/war only rewards those who complete the task at hand.

I really hope we decided not to score like this and instead score by models killed like before, and like 90% of other games on the market as well as other heroscape tournements (including GEN CON).

lives are not the same as models so your karv agaent comment is not applicable. a hero model is priced accordinly because it is hard to kill...it should not be devalued because you took some life away from it.

monte_kev

they was no grief last time, and barley any ties....so I am really not even sure why this is being considered. If somthign works don't fix it.

Tiberius
April 9th, 2007, 10:45 AM
I would like to disagree Monte_Kev. I spend 100 points for 3 Krav, I agree, one dies, that is 33 points. I spend 100 points for sir denrick and he takes two wounds by the end of game, by the same fashion, he looses 2/5 of his value. Well you guys can play however you want since you are putting on the tournament. I am just relating to how we have played before, but this will be the first time we play in michigan so we will play by your rules obviously. If it is up for debate, my vote is wounds count, if not, then do whatever you want, just be consistent.

monte_kev
April 9th, 2007, 10:52 AM
the game is about killing stuff...2/5th life is still not dead.

I play:
warmachine by privateerpress
star wars minis by wotc
urban war by urban mammoth
axis and allis by wotc
warhammer by games workshop.

all I am saying is that I have never heard of such a way of scoreing in all my gaming times.

enough said from me. made my vote...

Tiberius
April 9th, 2007, 10:55 AM
Right but it is a way to make sure there are no ties. If we have two armies going at it that are exactly the same, lets say charos vs charos, unlikely but it gets the point across and we beat on each other all day to no avail, I give you 5 wounds and you give me 6 wounds. In my opinion you won the match up, not tied because you dealt one more wound to me than I did to you. It isnt just about killing it is also about keeping your troops alive.

Draconious
April 9th, 2007, 10:58 AM
I guess I will have to vote against dividing by life.

I am netural between either method, but in the end not messing with it is easier.

In the case of a tie-breaker only use... I might be for it.

BUT we already have ties built into the scoring system?? so we already make room for having ties...

keeping your troops alive = not being killed = winning :rtfm: :horsepoo: :starwars:

Tiberius
April 9th, 2007, 11:15 AM
I agree, but with the keeping your troops alive point, I was trying to say that a 1 life charos (basically a dumetef guard) being the same as a 9 life charos just seems a little weird to me and should not be worth the same. You can be more reckless and require less strategy with the system you are proposing. But if that is how you guys do it, then that is fine too. It just makes it silly to bring squads over heroes if that is how we are doing it.

damja
April 9th, 2007, 01:32 PM
Ok.. Let me settle this right now.

Figures reaminig will determine points. If a hero is alive then he (or she) is worth full points. Only in the case of a tie will life reamining be figured into the points total. Basically it it the same as last time unless there is a tie (of which we had none in February).

Does this make sense?

Just because I like to be a contrarian, I figured I'd chime in here.

I'll preface by saying that I neither care that much nor will I be AT the next tourney (sadly), so disregard my remarks as you like.

I kinda agree with Tiberius that there should be some sort of point penalty for wounds.

Here are my reasons:

1) Most of the tourney scoring systems I am aware of (that is, most I've read about on this board) penalize points for heroes based on wounds.

2) Not penalizing more or less has the effect of rewarding players for having hero-heavy armies as opposed to squad-heavy armies. After all, why would I pick an army of (say) all Marro Drones (which I admit I would love to see in a tourney) for 500 points when I can spend the same 500 points on Q9, Nilf, Krug, etc? The latter army would either often win by a landslide or lose by a landslide (as MainMan can attest to), which can have a huge effect on standings, while a squad army will have smaller margins of victory (or loss).

Anyway, that's about all I got. Have fun ya'all!

And remember that whomever steals the title this time around will have to go prove themselves next time when the REAL champ (me, dammit!) shows up again.

I didn't hear no bell, Apollo...

I am the one who started this debate I think (in a pm to Damja). Let me just say this one last thing.... that I could be wrong, but... if Gencon rules are anything like the official rules, then you do count cards remaining. But you don't split the count for squads.... if you have 1 squad figure left then you get all the points for that squad. I only said that if you are going to prorate squad points for figures remaining then you should do the same for heros..... but if you are doing it by the book, then you shouldn't do either!

Well I have 2 master sets.. and 2 forest... was going to just bring my figures, and stuff to sell/trade this time though.... if needed I will toss the tiles in the box too.

I will have a few unopened castles if anyone wants to trade or buy one... or a person or two pitch in their 5$ prize fee, and ill just use a castle as a prize... its either that or I ebay them for $30 ;)

and I'll be there...

The weather in Ohio/PA/NJ has conspired to send my in-laws home a day early (aka, saturday morning), so I will in fact be in attendance at the tourney to defend my title!

Now I just have to figure out an army...

well another day at fun-4-all and another day in the books.
I look foward to these days and the great competition that everyone brings to this game.

kev's comments for today:
1. killing geoff with my army many times friday night sent me into the tourny with good spirits.
2. loosing first round by 300+ wasn't in the plan. :?
3. winning #2 was nice but not enough.
4. the next two blow outs...well just sucked.
5. not exactly sure where to point the blame, other then fire and ice and my defense rolls. I played F&I 2 times and mole hills 2 times + bye. the fire and ice board just was the evil of my army. my army needed my melee guys to get into combat...however the board made them simply take forever to get there, thus gettign plugged on the way their. Second blame goes to defence dice. My defence dice rolls were terrible, I was always one off...rarely did I defend a roll. and on a one wound army thats somthing that just can't happen.
6. The frenzy of the winning army was simply sick...I took the fairly same army to gen-con 06 and never hit a frenzy once, thus getting whipped....it goes to show you DICE MEAN EVERYTHING....if you can roll you will win.
7. props to damja as well...the champ throphy is simple too freakin cool man...and as always thanks for the leg work man.
8. RON...mind shackle? learn from me man....mind shackle blows in tourny format...treat the last place dice tower with some love, make a cool modification and bring it back with a goal to not take it home and you'll do great.

and now the goods, from ring side of the heavyweight title fight:

HALEON (last times champ)
laglor
karv
2x Micro Corps
Agent Carr

Jesse (drove from penn. doesn't own a single HS fig)
EOV
2x venoc vipers
armoc vipers
2x archers
venoc warlord

Round 1:
-H gets INI
rolls out his micro corps toward the move +2 glyph
-J responds by sending his EOV's to the glyph
-H shuffles the micro corps agents
-J EOV grabs the glyph
-H MC snipe the EOV and one drops dead
-J EOV move into engage and kill one micro corp, FRENZY
and kill another micro corp.

Round 2:
-J graps INI, attacks with EOV dropping another micro corp.
-H laglor autoloads and kills an EOV
-J EOV chills on glyph
-H laglor chills
-J EOV chills, FRENZY
chills.
-H micro corp shoots and misses on EOV

Round 3:
-H INI, micro corp shoots EOV and is defended.
-J venoc vipers move up kill a micro corp, FRENZY
and kill another micro corp.
-H microcorp shooting EOV and blanks the roll.
-J venoc vipers move and kill krav agent, FRENZY
and kill a micro corp, FRENZY
and kill a krav agent.
-H lost his 3rd marker
-J venoc vipers kill the last krav agent, and put 1 wound on carr.

Round 4: (J is on INI +8 glyph)
-J gets INI venoc vipers attack laglor for 1 wound FRENZY
for a second wound.
-H carr kills a venoc
-J venoc puts a wound on laglor, FRENZY
wound on carr FRENZY
wound on laglor kills carr FRENZY
2 wounds on laglor for the WIN.

review:
this was simply sick. the amount of frenzy and skull rolls was just insane.....3 units decimated 500+ points in 4 rounds....it was disgussting to say the least...there is no good defence against that.
key points:
1. Jesse grabbing the move +2 glyph was huge...vipers+warlord+glyph+road means my end to your end in one round.
2. without saying the frenzy rolls.
3. jesse's attack rolls were above average vs. below average defence rolls and stealth suit rolls.
4. DAMN!!!! nothing more.

We got back pretty late last night from the michigan tournament, the snow storm that covered all of ohio and the fact we stopped at a really slow restaurant for supper didnt help our time getting back (mostly the snow where I could only drive 2/3 my normal driving speed). Anyhow, fun4all games was a cool store, everyone we met was cool and great to play. My friend Jeff, who took 7th over all commented on the different feel of this one to the last ohio one we went to where it just didnt seem that everyone was so concerned with that competitive army and were willing to try different characters that dont see the light of day so often, it was a cool thing, more relaxed and laid back, rather than win at all costs. Anyhow, my army was one I put together to have fun and it performed significantly better than I was expecting.

3 minions of utgar
Runa
Marro Warriors
Dumetef Guard

My first match was against one of the many Kevins there on Fire and Ice. That is a tough board for non-flying melee units unless you happen to be immune to lava, luckily my guys mostly flew or were ranged. I flew runa over early for a little mitonsoul action which paid off with her manhandling Dan to death and mitonsoul taking out theracus. (his army was Jotun, syvarris, morsbane, Deadeye Dan, and Theracus). Jotun avenged his fallen comrades but was wounded in the process. I followed this with alot of minions of utgar and the marro warriors coming over. Jotun was killed in an epic battle on the lava field by two minions and a marro warrior (who was wild swinged to death). The minions and the lava field ended up taking him out. Syvarris did the most damage to me picking off the slow minions as I closed, the +1 defense glyph helping most of the time with my already disgusting defense rolls. I eventually overran the archer and the wizard for the win.

The next match was against my friend Jeff and his samuri archer army (Kaemon Awa, Hamtaro - the flagbearer at a tournament!, 2 x samuri archers, tagawa samuri). He actually didnt do too much to me, it was my wiffed attack rolls with minions that got me counterstriked to death, about 5 times throughout the fight. Jeff dominated most of the game, whoever says that flagbearer is not worth his points against melee armies does not know what they are talking about, that guy rocked my world. Jeff beat me by about 170 points.

The next match was against Damja back on fire and Ice. This time I was up against Braxas (the bane of all minion armies), Krav, Laglor and Carr. I thought that other than braxas, this shouldnt have been a problem, well I got in there and couldnt close the deal, braxas ate well, rinse repeat until I was well depleted of minions. Even after using hte summoning glyph to get braxas surrounded and pounded, I wiffed pretty bad on my attack rolls and got melted. Eventually I killed one or two krav, wounded the other heroes with marro, had some cloning action until carr showed me what it meant by sword of reckoning with height advantage, and the dumetef guard killed braxas, yes folks, the dumetef guard actually earned his points. So that helped the point difference significantly. I lost that one.

The next match was against my friend AJ on wolf swamp road (2nd samuri army on this board today), who I also brought, with yet another samuri army (Kaemon Awa, Kozuke, Izumi, Tagawa samuri, and the ninjas of the north wind). At least the flag bearer wasnt in this one. Anyhow, this was my closest game all day, I did pull out a victory but with only 1 minion left on the board. I had a freak streak of luck toward the end of the game with Runa who pulled off no less than 4 20's with the helm of mitonsoul aura. I killed 2 izumi and 2 tagawa, then killed another izumi with her bare hands and later died from the counterstrike of the last tagawa. The minions that were left went to have a grudge match with the kozuke who did a good job of cleaning me up, it was basically trade offs and I came out on top barely.

The final match was against Don (the main man) who was playing 3x Macdirk warriors, alistair, AE, and shotgun sullivan. The marro warriors owned this board (molehills) as the weak defense macdirks charged them on the high ground and I just knocked them down coming in. AE came in on the third turn but I had the movement glyph by then and had taken out alistair and the majority of the macdirks by then. They couldnt do the damage and the minions ate them. My third win.

So I was 3 and 2, 6th place overall. The guys I brought, Jesse, who plays me every week and just uses all my stuff, took first with incredibly lucky rolls (which happens at home about 1 every 3 games where he just doesnt give me a turn) took 1st place and half a master set as his prize. I wish it would have still had the terrain and dice and stuff for him. Jeff and I took 6 and 7th, 10 points apart from each other and the exact same record, AJ took 9th out of 17 people. Not a bad showing from the PA group.

Thanks to everyone who came out yesterday. To me, the best part was having the PA guys there. It made the tournament feel legit to me, not to mention having the 4 of them there made it that more difficult to win.

On that note, congrats to Jesse for winning the whole thing. I didn't get the chance to play him and finished 2nd (again). You need to get back out here to defend your title!

Special thanks to our 3 main sponsors - Rich at Fun 4 All games, Matt at VixenTor, and Sandra at HouseMouse. You guys rule!

I will post all the results on Monday probably (Sorry, I still have to finish my taxes today). I will have pics whenDon send them to me.

Again, awesome time and I will try to get something planned for early May, I just need to check my calendar.

Wow. What a day. Started off strong with two wins big wins. I should have left then. Next, the champ Jesse whooped me with Frenzy where in the first turn marker he got it 6 times. SIX TIMES!!!
Next I played Last months Champ Cambell, who picked me a part. He was nice and said it was close, but it wasn't.
Lastly I fought the T. in James T. Kirk.
His Minions ruled the day. Once a marro got the move glyph, the minions just beat the hell out of me.

All and all, a fantastic time. I can't wait for the next tournament.

Nice job as always Damja. You did a great job planning. A lot of fun.

10th place doesn't feel as special as it did yesterday.

I think this should be changed to "beat Jesse's dice" the army itself is beatable...but the number of frenzy's and all skull rolls was the unbeatable part.

again great day and congrats to everyone.

Yeah, like I said before, I typically beat Jesse 2 out of every 3 times we play but at a tournament something clicks and he becomes a dice rolling god. He has been doing progressively better each one we have gone to and this one being his third tournament, he was due for a big win. When he is on, he is on.

So what you're saying is that the only way to win in a tourney against him... is not to play...

Or perhaps we should just lock the door next time we see him coming!

I came up with a ranking system for our tournament group based upon the results for the last two tournaments. I will continue using this as we continue having get togethers. I think I will compute rankings based upon the last 4 tournaments we have and take the top three point values everyone has earned out of the four.

I don't know if that makes sense, but really don't care if you get it, because I do.

Everyone has been saying how lucky Jesse was with the FRENZY dice, and he was to some degree, but he also played the game very well. He made sound, tactical moves that positioned his army to make the best of a rolled frenzy. Very well thought-out moves that took advantage of terrain and glyphs. He handed me my only loss on the day. He took out my Q-9 with vipers (dang summoning glyph)! After that it was all clean-up. Even if Q-9 had not been eliminated early in the game, he still probably would have won, if by less of a margin.
Tiberius said that he beats that army 2/3 times. If that is the case, then statistically Jesse should have lost at least one game. The dice gods were certainly smiling on him, but I beleive that Jesse fully deserved first place and his name on the trophy, frenzy or - even though it never happened - no frenzy. Congradulations, champ!

First half of May might not be too good. Even though it would be a great b-day present for me... Mother's Day as well. My wife gets really sentiMENTAL about Hallmark holidays. The following weekend I celebrate 8 wonderful years of marriage (we'll be married for 9!) Just a joke.. 9 great fun-filled and sometimes challenging years. After that, May is just another month. And hopefully a little closer to some more releases! Marvel, SotM, more wave boosters. The possibilites are endless! You know, maybe early June would be better? Just a thought.

Updated Rankings - I changed the point values a bit. The stanings are still about the same, but there are some changes. I decided to use a less convoluted equation for points. Now the winner will always receive 300 points and the remainder of the people in the tourney will recieve less points based upon order of finish. This actually will give a slight advantage to those who show up more, but makes the scores closer so a good day will still help your ranking, just not as much.

I will make the ranking best 3 of 5 tourneys now due to the changes.

SO>>>

If other people want to send me results of tournaments they attend (in Michigan) that have been posted on heroscapers.com (and not the weekly game days) I will use those as well to figure out the "OFFICIAL" Michigan standings.
