They're off to a great start! Pan's Labyrinth won the first award of the night, best Art Direction. Hopefully it will be the first of many for them.

Or best picture. It was one of the best received movies of the year. Probably the only reason it wasn't was because of Guillermo's prior movies such as Hellboy and Blade II. I enjoyed both of them, but comic movies are a taboo in Hollywood.

First big upset of the night. I think Eddie Murphy was the overwhelming favorite for Best Supporting Actor. I haven't seemed Dreamgirls, but I loved Little Miss Sunshine and I'm happy for Alan Arkin.

Does anyone think the Academy will give an Oscar to Abigail Breslin, the little girl in Little Miss Sunshine? It was a good movie (I don't think he deserved to be nominated for best picture) and she was good in it. So was the rest of the cast, I'm glad Alan Arkin won.

Strange nominess in the Best Supporting Actress category. You have a little girl and a former American Idol contestant. I'd have to say the two Babel actresses will cancel each other out. My bet is on Jennifer Hudson.
