I made them from the ice set. I bought the paint at walmart. Its an actual paint that looks and FEELS like real rock.

nice custom! and easy done i think. That paint really looks like rock/granite. Could you post some images with these Rocky Mountains on a Map?!? :)
Bye, Ch1can0.

I think he painted over his ice pieces with textured rock paint. that is what he is saying.
It seems like a pretty pricey alternative to me.

It's a spray paint called Flexstone, although I'm sure that there are a dozen other brands of the same stuff by now. They look great and it's a great idea. However, I was wondering if you glued the tops to the bases first or just "sealed" them together with the paint? Also... doesn't the Flexstone interfere with the hex-edges locking together with others?

Those look really good, but maybe you could give them some more depth by inking them with black and drybrushing them with light grey.

I think this is a great idea and lets you use them in non-ice situations. I have two sets and may do this to one of them.
Thanks for the inspiration.

I've actually set asided some of the glaciers to repaint as stone and this is a good way to do it. Nice job and thanks for posting the pictures.

These look great. I was thinking about repainting those glaciers so that I could have an impassible moutain but I can't find any ice sets at all.

Very cool. Any chance you can post pics of them actually atop mountains?

Those look really good man!!! Nice and creative. If I had them, I would probably use them on almost ever map I made, unlike the Ice Glaciers in their native form.

The brand I got was Plasti-Kote. You can find them at Walmart and Kmart in the hardware section. Usually on the top or bottom shelf. The top of the can will look and feel like the paint. It cost like $4
All I did was take an extra one of my Tunda sets and glued them to the base. Then set them in the yard and spay painted. I didnt prime so it took about 3 coats. It takes about 2 minutes to spay them. Once they dry a little take them inside so the warmth of the house dries them better.
Them still fit in the other HS hexes. Sometimes theres a little residue at first but it wipes away easily.
Ill post some map pics later tonight.

That's a great idea. A lot simpler than making them and they look great.

Very cool! :headbang:
If I may offer a suggestion?
Since these were used from an extra tundra set, you'll also have extra ice tiles. You could paint these as well, and use them for mountain pathways or the faces of large rocks. It would look really cool on uneven terrain.

Yep the rock paint is pretty cool (messy though) I've used it many times for 1/6 buildings.
I had thought of doing something like this but can never find the tundra set. Saw one once ONCE

Yeah... I just found my first one last week... and bought it. I had to go to a Toys'R'Us about 40 minutes from my house though. So, needless to say... I won't be trying this method out on that one. It is a great idea though, and I bet it looks kick-@$$ in play. It would go really well with those Sasquatch repaints of the Dzu-Teh I saw of someone's on here.

I thought of that. Still contemplating it :)

Nice. But knowing my love of over-doing things, I'd probably do the ice tiles too, to get the gravel I've wanted...
