View Full Version : Raising Stink About Ruins

Okay, it's probably useless to complain, but I just want to raise a stink. I was just looking at an old pic of Marvelscape that I downloaded, and I realized that originally, there WERE two distinct wall molds! Look at this picture and count the number of windows on top of each wall. The one in the back is longer. So there were two molds!
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s153/argosail/marvel2.jpg
Is anyone else mad, that in the last few presentations, they have shown the set coming with only one wall? I have really been looking forward to those ruins, and I'm going to feel a little shortchanged with only one. I know there are probably budgetary reasons for this, but still, I would have paid more for the extra wall. Why create a mold and just throw it away?

Maybe thats why the release was delayed, one of the walls fell through!

It's just two of the same wall... the wall it's self looks like it has a destructable piece, so one is the wall from the front side without the movable piece the other is the wall from the back side with the piece still in it

It was 2 walls, one had a smash through piece for hulk and other figures to bash through... I thought this was silly.. and maybe they did too and removed it. Or maybe it will show up in the next box, since due to the small amount of terrain, I am thinking all of the expansions will be small master sets... the box looks about the size of the castle box.

That would be pretty cool especially if they're all =/<$30. As it is, you wouldn't really need more then 1 except for, maybe, the terrain and the wall... (which hopefully won't hurt what they're expecting for sales...)

No they're not, they were two slightly different walls. Look at this picture:
http://www.heroscapers.com/oldgallery/albums/userpics/10006/DSC08228.JPG
Count the number of Window spacers on the upper level. The close ruin only has 3, while there are 4 in the far ruin. They are clearly different.

They both had the smash through section. One just had the piece in place and the other had it removed. Either way, they didn't remove it because they thought it was silly. The Toy Fair showing (where there was only one ruin, starting this thread) prominently displayed a single ruin with the Hulk smashing through it.

Maybe the ruin will show up in a future set if it doesn't come in this one.
Keep in mind that the folks that told Erik that all of the included terrain was on that shelf may have been overlooking the second ruin. It's unlikely, but possible. They had a lot of other stuff to be thinking about I'm sure.

I, too, was very disappointed that it only appears we are getting one ruin now. The good news is that the set itself is only $25. I have a feeling that I'll be buying multiple sets and selling off the terrain that I already have. Those ruins must be mine --- and in mass quantities!

I'm not sure if I'm going to get ore than one set. I think I will eventually, but first I want to wait and see how Marvel is going to be expanded. If it turns out the game is going to be expanded through a series of large sets, each with a lot of urban terrain and/or ruins, I doubt I'll get more than one of each.
I really want to build a modern-looking ruined town and set up a scenario where it is besieged by zombies, but I don't want to rush out and buy tons of buildings if it turns out I'll be getting one or two with every new Marvel set.
I think I'll be using the existing Heroscape ruins to represent a ruined cathedral in my town.

Slacker? Maybe, but what if Marvelscape turns out to be sold as a series of large box sets, each containing ruins and urban terrain? I'd feel pretty silly stockpiling the first one if every subsequent release turned out to be equally large.

Why? I don't understand this. You can't have too much 'scape!

LOL...true true.
I guess what I'm getting at is this...imagine if instead of small boosters Heroscape was sold as a series of Master Sets, each with about as much terrain as ROTV. Would you have felt the need to own tons of ROTV then? I think if the terrain contents are duplicated in later sets, even partially, it will reduce the number of this set I feel I need.
I'm hoping we'll know how expansions are going to be sold by the time this comes out. Hopefully there will be a little flier or ad on the box or wiht the instructions. That will then determine how many sets I get or if I get multiples at all. If some upcoming Fantastic Four set contains tons of urban terrain and new ruins, I'll likely wait it out.

From what I gathered, Hasbro is planning to wait until they see how this master set sells, before they start producing boosters for it. I'm sure there is a fair amount of confidence in the marvel brand. But it could be months before we even hear news of Boosters. I wouldn't expect ads in the master set. The design team did talk about things like "crushed cars" in boosters, which suggests there will be some focus on terrain in any boosters. But I imagine that stuff will come in special terrain packs like the forgotten forest.
I don't think multiple master sets is a good way of marketing the product. As I've said in other posts, I think Marvel relies heavily on a few recognizable characters and I think all-inclusive starter type packs would chew through the popular characters pretty quick. I would expect any terrain packs to be spread out, and likely contain second tier characters that you wouldn't normally buy if they were packaged by themselves. Like an Avengers mansion with...Falcon. Or...Hellcat. Or...Stingray. Or maybe with a squad. Doom's castle with Doombots. Science lab with AIM agents. SHIELD headquarters with SHIELD Agents. Prison with Guardsmen. They might sell figure boosters with terrain. Maybe two characters and a crushed car or something. That would be cool. But in any case, I don't think we will see boosters until fall or maybe even the holiday season. I doubt we will see any kind of terrain expansion until next year.
But of course, this is a lot of specualtion, like ninthdoc said.

Sound resonable, but I thought I read somewhere here that they didn't want to make squads. Infact I think the closest thing to a sqaud would be team bonding with like the x-men or avengers. I hope the game does well, and I do hope they make the odd characters.

So, it seems that Marvel may once again be delayed beyond April. Do you think it's possible that they are making some changes to give us the best product possible?
Like...maybe....making sure each box gets BOTH ruins???

Well, it seems my optimism was misplaced.
The ad in Marvel News, shows that there is, in fact, only ONE ruin in the box.
Is anyone else kinda ticked by this? They delayed the product for months, raised the price, and now they are going to give us less terrain.
It means that those of you who are buying Marvelscape for the ruins, are going to have to buy twice as many sets, and get twice as many uselss copies of the characters!
This really raises my ire! It's like putting clone "commons" in the SotM. It seems that Hasbro is just cutting corners left and right. The thing that made Rise of the Valkyrie so impressive to me in the first place, was the amount of stuff you got for a relatively inexpensive price. It seems that formula just isn't being maintained.

Wait, in one paragraph you complain about useless copies of characters and the next you complain about commons in SotM? :wtf: :brickwall:
I'm right there w/you about the Marvelscape ruins. I'd have to buy 40 sets to get the number of ruins that I want. However, contrary to the posts by several crybabies on this site, commons in a master set are freaking awesome!

No, I'm not complaining about commons in the master set! Fine! Dandy! Good idea even!
I'm complaining about CLONE commons in SotM. Look at the picture on the box and carefully examine the figs. Half of the figs in the box, have CLONE models. That means about 25% of the figs in the box are just repeats. That sucks! Every fig in Rise of the Valkyrie is a unique sculpt. Now they are cutting costs. I don't see how that is beneficial to anyone, including those who buy multiple sets. Because now, instead of having ONE extra set of a squad for each SotM you buy, you will get TWO. It's the same thing they did with the zombies, and I think it's cheap and lame!

Are you kidding?! Thats the point!
The 2-pack of Zombies was awesome. I like to have 4 of each common squad, I only had to buy 2 packs instead of 4.
If I want 4 of each common squad from the SotM set, I only need to buy 2 sets. They are saving me money!

I have to agree there - I've never had a lot of interest in Marro because, as some may know, I don't have a lot to spend of Heroscape. Three packs minimum for the Drones to be effective were useless to me. However, with the Zombies, I could spend $20 and get the same effectiveness as the Drones, which would cost me $40.
Now, perhaps, I can finally have a Marro Army! Praise the heavens!

Well, they aren't saving ME any money! They are cheating me!
Maybe you guys enjoy having a bunch of repetetive figures that look exactly the same on the game board, but I, for one, do not! One of the things I like about this game is its visual attractiveness and the diversity of the pieces, and that is being cut for cost, plain and simple.
Look, for the zombies, they could have done the same thing they did with the romans and the orcs. It would be great to have two squads of zombies, with SIX unique molds instead of three. Even if they had the same exact abilities, I would have been happy with six molds for diversity. Instead, your armies of zombies only have three variations instead of six. THAT is what I am complaining about. Creative laziness and cheaping out on the customer.
They are doing the same thing with SotM. Now, for the same price as the old Master Set (possibly more), you will get about half as many unique figures/characters.
It just seems to me that they are cheaping out, just like they did with the ruins in the Marvel set.

Yeah, I guess I just don't get it. I must be crazy, because I just don't get why I am supposed to be happy that the only way to get a product, is to be forced to pay for two COPIES of it.
Yeah, commons are just great if you are going to buy multiple sets. But in SotM, you are automatically paying for duplicates, because there are dupes in every pack. In my insanity, I just wonder why they don't put 6 common squads x 1 in the pack, instead of 3 common squads x 2. It just seems to me there would have been a lot more diversity that way (ESPECIALLY if you are buying multiple sets). But I guess you guys are right....Hasbro is just being saintly by not bothering to waste their money on as many unique production molds as Rise of the Valkyrie had, or come up with creative game stats for 3 more squads.
And nobody is ever taking me back to the funny farm alive. I'm sick of talking to those tatter tots in the cafeteria. They just gossip about everything!
