Don't know what figs you have or how many but...
Q9 (180)
2xMicrocorp (200)
Nakita (120)
Krav (100)
Position your Nakitas right, and you'll have plenty of time to wipe folks out. Put most of your markers on the Microcorp, though, as you'll have 4 attacks of 4. Microcorp beat out 4th Mass on the walls b/c of their defense and Stealth Armor.
Alternatively, you could do:
...ah screw it. That's the best castle defense army. Even if your opponents have flyers (which they'd better), chances are you can fill all the top wall spaces with this army. (16 squares)

If you are going to control the range glyph, then definitely grab a whole lot of 4rth Mass for starters.
Then add Charos and/or Sentinels to act as your special operations force, that you can send out to attack the (long range) threats to the 4rth.
That'll give your 4rth the Valiant bonus. If you want even more defense, add Thogrim to stand on the top of the castle next to some of the 4rth.
If you want a fun choice for controlling your door, (if you need a filler,) I'd suggest using Eldgrim, since he is also Valiant.

i have two sets of the 4th mass. i like that idea and then put thorgrim on charos. i was think maybe put 2 deathreavers in there somewhere to tie down units for the 4th mass/snipers to take down

2x mass (140)
KMA (100)
DED (60)
Sentinels (110)
Raelin (80)
490 (unless i lied about DED's point cost; i don't have him so IDK)

Don't go with the deathreavers. They would take too long to work in this type of battle. You are going to want a unit with a special attack. I am pretty sure one of the fellas will have Drake, and specials are the only way to kill him.

i dont think there is enough mele units there to take out the big threats. this is what i was thinkin
4th mass. x2
deathreavers x2
and maybe imperium x2???
or
4th mass x2
charos
sentials
eldgrim
or
4th mass x2
DED
grimnak

If they are bringing in drake(s) and DED(s) then you definately want something that will help you match DED's range, the air borne elite might help since you can bring them down anywhere and take out dan pretty quickly. Also, a good figure with special attacks would be laglor to counter drake. They cost the same, and with autoload special you should be okay. Through in some microcorp with thier stealth armour and you will be fine.

Newbie reply alert:
I did an all Vydar 500 pt army with:
Q9
Gladiatrons
2 Blastatrons
Laglor
Q9 and Laglor kept blasting away. The glads and blasts took care of the flyers who landed up top. I just stayed put on top.

Well I would have to see the castle to be sure, but it sounds like you're going to have a rough time with 500pts against 1600. Ouch. If you're comfortable doing so, Taelord could be quite beneficial.

I think Mr. B has the right of it - your best shot may be:
Taelord 180
Raelin 80
3x4th 210
Guilty 30
Drake will be mildly annoying, but he really can't handle two or three wait and fire shots from adjacent, Taelord boosted 4th for long. Plus this army should have enough units to line the battlements and force Drake to come up in the location of your choice (adjacent to three 4th naturally ;) )
~Aldin, who thinks 1600 points and two sets of order markers is gonna roll over you regardless but sees the 4th as your best shot (because with the range glyph Dan is a dead doughnut)

If you are going up against Drake, then a special attack is definitely called for. Roman Archers could do the trick. I also like the idea of the Nakita's adjacent to as many ranged units as possible to reduce the chance to target the archers. It also clutters up the top of the castle so fliers will likely have to land next to a Nakita to land on the wall, setting up the Nakita's other special. I'd throw in a melee bruiser to help clean up the ones that do make it through. The idea of Jotun tossing chumps off the castle puts a smile on my face, but he's a big target, he costs a lot, and the ones he would likely toss are fliers, and therefore immune to being thrown.

Try to get Omnicron snipers with taelord on top of the castle walls.

It didn't think double spaced non-flyers could be on top. How did they get there if they can't climb the ladders? if they were born there, how did Mama Jotun get up there?

If you build it right, you dont have to rely on ladders, you can make a stone or grass staircase leading up to the battlements.

Ahhhh. Sort of like the I get a 1000 pt. army and you get a 500 pt. build.

I was meaning the castle defender leaves Jotun on top of the castle to fight off the guys that get up there. Have him start up there.

We never allow starting zones on the top of castles in my group, we make them climb!

I understand the landstairs idea, but with out those, the idea of starting a player on top of the castle that can't get there in the first place sounds like it is against the rules to me.

Try to get Omnicron snipers with taelord on top of the castle walls.
Omnis are great from castletop with Tae & Rae, but you only get six figs vs. twelve 4th and only three of them per turn. Not enough units to take the inevitable Dragon/Drake attrition.
~Aldin, thinking they oughtta call this scenario "The Alamo"

IMO 2 800 point armies attacking a castle should win every time when the castle is defended by a 500 point army, unless the attacking armies are played by complete fools. If you put up a good fight, my hat's off to you. So were you facing Drake x2? And when did the AE drop?

yea they had put eldgrim x2 and thorgrim on one of the drakes and the other they just moved in. i had moved all my figures around so that they couldnt drop any in my base. the experssion on their faces were priceless. i think i ended up takin out 1000 points before my last wolves was sniped by a airborne.

1100 points and 6 activations per-turn does not seem like a fair handicap to the attackers to me (assuming that they both did order markers seperately, if not, still.) 1100 points is BIG.
