Kinda strange to play a Counterstrike army in a Tournament without knowing their rules

Yeah. It was really funny. He's only played a couple of times though. At least he learned something today.

I would have done better, but I always messed up with the turn markers, or forgot to do something... but then thats to be expected since I have not played anyone but my 9 year old cuzin until that day, and I never used the zombies or deadye before... and I was supose to have 2 more zombie squads not grimnak, but no one had any to barrow ;), so grimnak was filler, and a bad choice of filler since I never actualy used him... I lost on points once with the zombies, once by 6 points. Yet they saved me by rising again, in one game were I won by one or two zombies that came back from the dead. I got one good lucky roll though, I got a 20 with deadeye, against Nilfhiem ;) on my first attack.

I did a lot of stupid things... ill do better next time ;).

Down by 10 points from 1st place in the last round. One set of turn markers later I lost Nilf and Krug. Things were looking so good.

Nice job Haleon! I thought I had you for a minute. Long live the king!

Any time you guys are up for playing, drop a line. Wednesday nights and Friday nights work best for me.

Damja, thanks for running the event. It went real smoothly and was alot of fun! And I'm sure my enjoyment had nothing to do with pulling all those wins out of my arse!

The matches I played in were all real challenging, and there are at least 2 that I won because of lucky dice rolling, particularly the match in round 2 I played against Geoff (there has to be some luck involved when you're down to just Q17 and manage to use him to wipe out 3 minions and Charros to take the win).

The game against TheMainMan also featured some nasty rollage. And let me say man, you were quite the tricky opponent. Had me completely flumboozled the first 2-3 rounds switching tactics and making unexpected (to me) moves!

The most "thinky" of the matches (hence the quote) was against Damja though... I think we must have each shifted tactics and angles of attack 3 or four times, and he forced me into several tactical retreats. Frankly, my brain hurt at the end of that match ;)

And let's not forget the tentatively-named (pending his next futile tournament) Monte_Kev Perpetual Trophy of Futility winner, Monte_Kev. Though I still would have loved to have seen a shackle come off (especially since I never played against him!)

So yeah, again, great fun and I am completely looking forward to trouncing all yer hindquarters in April! Oohh, did I just make some smack talk?

Hmm.. in the top 3 armies, at least 2 of them have one of:

Q9
Krav Maga
Raelin
Theracus

I now have a quest to create an army that will beat these guys consistently. Though I'm not sure it'll be possible. You know what would be cool, is if everyone posted their MVU (most valuable unit) throughout the tourney, and maybe why so.

Really wish I would have been able to make it out. Looking forward to the next one!

Kinda amusing that you just listed my army (plus X17). The Krav and Q9 are top-flight units, so it's not shocking that they would be in winning armies, and they both benefit especially from Raelin (Krav for obvious reasons, and Q9 because it beefs up his defense enough to overcome the minor glass jaw problem he has in life).

Theracus is just so damned handy, as he gives you a good deal of flexibility in the disposition of your units (and let's you quickly seize high ground)... especially for the price.

I have to say though that if I had to name an MVU for this tournament, I might say it was X17. I'd not seen him in use much before this, and had never been massively impressed, but he definitely served his purpose and won me at least 2 of my matches. The other MVU option would obviously be Q9.

My MVP would have to be the Izumi Samuri. The funny thing is I was thinking of swapping them out with WoA.

In my second match versus NDG I was down on points and he had position on me. I won initiative and proceeded to take out Guilty and Syvarris with a nice round of Q9 and Quiglix Gun. He then moved Krug into engagement with the two Izumi's I had left. On Krug's first attack he rolled zero skulls to my 4 shields - result 4 damage to Krug with my counterstike. So Krug gets 4 more attack 1 skull to 5 shields - Krug dead!
I then took out 2 minions with another volley of Quiglix Gun. The match only lasted one more round.

In my 4th round match versus Geoff, I had Carr, Izumi, and 3 rats to either 3 or 4 minions. Everyone thought that I was golden until he decimated Carr and 2 of my rats while he was left with 2 minions. Then he took out two of my remaining Izumi and I got one of his minions on a counterstrike. So I am left with a measly roborat and one Izumi to his Minion. Geoff attacked my Izumi and I think hit with 2 skulls for 4 damage and I rolled 5 shields to take him out with another huge counterstrike.

I liked my whole army though. It was very versitile. The Izumi more than took care of what I expected them to. Q9 was a force as always. Raelin supported with her Aura as well as expected, and the Deathreavers wreaked havoc in the middle of the map which then allowed me to get Carr into the mix except against Haleon. Haleon played a great tourney from what I saw and deserved the win.

My first round was against the very scary monte_kev. Lucky for me (and everyone else there) he only rolled 19 and 20 for initiative. A very interesting combo for his army and a solid strategy considering the scoring system. If any of his attempts would have worked, he would have been in the hunt for the Championship as well.

I felt the tourney was a definite success and lots of good fun. I really enjoyed playing against and meeting some new people and seeing everyone's different approach to playing the game. Previous to the tournament i hadn't played in about 5 or 6 weeks and now my excitement level towards the game has gotten a kick in the pants. Thanks to damja for organizing the thing and to everyone who came out and participated and Fun 4 All for letting us use the space.

The dice gods were definitely smiling on me that day-two of my wins were in games that lasted a whole 20 minutes each! (ouch! sorry guys. lol) That is, they were smiling on me until damja's cursed counterstrike round of doom (i'm still dazed-you were as good as defeated!)!

Interesting enough, my MVU award is split between two squads:the Minions and the Agents-they were slaying enemy units with efficiency. I didnt even use Krug or Guilty McCreech for most of the day. I hope to do it again for sure, even though Kev V and I had a five hour (round trip) drive.

I also had a reealy good time. Well run and organized. The only opponent I've ever played before that day was my 11 year old nephew (maybe he'll make the next one). My MVP was Carr, once I finally figured out how to play my army. The first several rounds I had it all backwards. Carr loves zombies! Can't wait for the next round. Already practicing with a new army.

I wish I could have made it. :(
If you all do it this spring/summer I will be there for sure. I will keep my eyes peeled for it.

If I was to rent a place for us out in Perry would more folks be able to come?
We are central to Lansing and Flint, right off the highway. Folks from Up North (like mt pleasant and such) could get there on highway miles going down 27 to 69 and be there in around an hour. Flint is about 20 minutes, same as lansing.

I have already started planning an April session at Fun 4 All with Rich (the owner) in conjunction with the release (hopefully) of Wave 7 and MarvelScape.

That being said, if anybody has any feedback let me know. The next event I will plan will be in April sometime mid-month so there is plenty of time to get the word out and plan this thing out. I would like to get 20 for next time.

Let me know what you thought about the maps used and any ideas you might have for next time. I have a couple, but I'll see what you guys want to do first.

Bad_Calvin, I might be up for a game in Perry sometime. Is there some way to do it without having to rent a locale?

I could rent something. They don't charge me that much man. :)
I could have it at a church for free as well. There are plenty of spots to do it in town and just outside of it. The thing I like about it is that it is right no the highway making it easy for out of towners to go straight to the spot. Plenty of parking, food, a motel, etc. It is a small town, but visitors don't get lost and it is all highway miles on the car saving gas and time.

Thanks for the recaps and MVU's, guys! All good stuff.

Something in April sounds good. I don't know about wave 7, but I'll just be happy if wave 6 is actually in stores by that point

Perry sounds like a good spot too, BC. Would you be setting up a normal swiss tourney or would it be something more campaign-style? I'd love to see some of your new ideas on HS campaigns considering all the new info that has been released.

I think I've figured out how Campbell did it. Did he do the old "I'm wearing my kilt and if you don't let me win I'll show you what's underneath" trick? The only foolproof counter to that strategy is to poke your own eyes out.
