View Full Version : The Warfront-Scape

This idea is taken with respect to the origin of the idea in Homba/Bad_calvin.

This is not so much a different way to play Heroscape as it is a contest, a game, in which the entire forum can participate.

The essential idea of it is a storyline: War. (Not much of a storyline, but you'd be amazed what the guys in the Forum Games section can do with that. Seriously.) However, this is no ordinary war. This is war on a massive scale. We're talking units in the hundreds, maybe even thousands.

Ridiculous, isn't it?

Of course not. Why not, you might ask? Because everyone participates.

The first scenario is simple, so I'll give it as an example (Once more thanks to Homba/BC):

Utgar's Orcish Horde has finally begun a massive march on Ullar's forests. Moving out of the desert and barren rock lands, they charge towards the serene greenery with the force of a storm. Ullar sounds the call for help, and Jandar responds, but so little forces are managed to be called into the battle..

Players: 2 teams

Armies:
Team Orc MUST draft Grimnak. Grimnak does not count against the point limit. If Tornak is drafted with points, Ornak costs no points to draft.
Team Elf MUST draft Syvarris. Syvarris does not count against the point limit.
The points may be set anywhere at or above 250 to draft aside from those required heroes. Team Elf gets 80% of the point level decided.
Ex. The points are set at 500. Team Orc gets Grimnak+500 points, Team Elf gets Syvarris+400 points.
Team Orc must draft at least 25% of the points to be orcs, if they are available, but if no orcs are available, they do not lose those points. They must recruit entirely from Utgar.
Team Elf must draft only from Ullar and Jandar, but only 25% of the points may be from Jandar.

Landscape:
The landscape may not include castles or lava fields. Any trees available must be used. At least 14 water spaces must be used and all of them must be adjacent to another water space. It is recommended the landscape be mostly green. Aside from these restrictions, the landscape may look like anything the players decide.

The idea is that everyone can play the scenario out, representing that particular piece of the battle occuring on a warfront stretching thousands of miles. They then post their report and tell us who won or lost. They can mention if Grimnak died or if Syvarris slew the beast, or anything spectacular that occured. Maybe Syvarris killed every single hero of the orcish army for that section of the war. Maybe the Venoc Warlod slipped in and killed Grimnak. Maybe Grimnak chomped Charos- who knows?

We'll set an end-date, collect the tallies, and see who won- Mayeb the Orcs won 15 out of 20 battles. Maybe the elves pummelled the orcs backwards barely with 5 out of 7. Some fronts may perish, some fronts may hold. Whatever the case, the overall victor determines what the next scenario(s) is. Perhaps the next battle is the Orcs, victorious, marching on the elven strongholds. Or maybe the Elves strike back against the heart of the Orcish Horde to assassinate the Chieftains.

Who knows? It's just an idea. Is it interesting enough to merit doing? Would you participate?

Thoughts, comments, and "Yes/No" answers rock.

Wow! Awesome scenario, I really like how armies must be themed. I might be willing to try after I finish up everything I need to do. Thanks for posting.

Neat idea! but if I'm understanding correctly...... you have about 500-600 points per army..... That's not very big..... Sometimes my friends and I play games of over 1500 points. Very Fun! :D
