Do any of you guys make molds of stuff? I want a reusable mold of something I already have, I'm not saying what until it's done, because it might not work. Also, what do you fill your molds with? I want the material to act and look like the HS tiles.

Thanks,
Fuzzie Fuzz

Well you'll have to make a two part mold unless the tile can be solid.

If solid it's pretty easy. Place the tile face up in a shallow container (secure with clay) Mix up some silicone pour over it. wait 24 hrs, pop out the tile, flip over and fill with resin. 5 min later a tile.

Here's a resin cast of a custom 1/6th Orc sculpt I did

And painted and dressed for war

My avatar is a custom sculpt too.

I used Alumalite silicone and resin. Very easy to work with.

Hobby Lobby has mold making material in their section with sculpty and stuff. I can't think of it right now. I would have snagged up a few bits but the wallet has an unvoluntary lock on it and the lint wasn't proper currency! shucks.

You can get the full Alumilite kit at Hobby Lobby ( gotta watch for those 40% off coupons!) Full kit is $70 ( includes silicone mold material, 16 ozs of two part resin cups stir sticks and instructions. PIcks up every detail in the original.

I've used the other mold items at HB too (usually in the clay aisle)
The resin tends to take longer to set and is softer, The two part mold putty is really easy to use. I think the putty is $15 and the resin is $20.
(its actually made by Alumilite)

Here is what the boxes look like

Shot of the original head and two casts. (one painted one plain with clay hair) You can see the color difference between the first pic posted.

KevHead: Are those reusable?

The Molds? Yes I have made at least 25 resin heads out of my molds.
Currently I have about 6 different Orc styles I sell.

Doing the putty wrap around caused air bubbles so I would advise against it. But pressing the smaller pieces into the putty worked really well.
