This thread is inspired by a series of vids on you tube called "Making custom fixes." this kids a little differnt sounding, but he really has some good ideas, he's even advertised this site!.
any way on to the list. I
1. If you have limmeted terrain and want BIG mountains, a castle set can save TONS of hexes for you.
2. If you don't have a RttFf, you can use those black metal paper clips to hold hexes togeter.
3.DON'T WORRY ABOUT A MIRROR MAP you don't need to have aperfectly ballenced map, use you imagination and you'll succed in more life like maps.
4. Water hexes stack on each other, if one is stacked on another, it is equill to the hight of one normal hex. this way if you have a stream going down hill one hex at a time, you can make it look more realistic with this hint.
5. The glyph of brandar can be hidden under a water tile. if you have a scenario where you need to look in a stream for a what ever the heck the scnario stats, pre game, a person who is not playing the game can hide it for you, then when playing, when ever a figure lands on a water space, that figure may choose to look for the glyph. he may choose any ajacent hex to loot at. take the choosen hex and lift it up off the board. if the glyph is there YAY! if not, turn is over.
6. If you start in the middle and then build out from there...if you want symetry it is easy to achieve based on the number of people playing the scenario as you just add equal tiles to each side. [but symetry is not a must, it is entirly up to you what terrain features you have in your map.]
7. Contour. Building a flat map then adding hills to it, will look like you did just that. Focus on contours as you build the map for more realistic or even more fanciful maps
8. If you have a castle set: use your imagination, it can be lots of things you want it to be.
9. The higher point army you play: build a map that has more hight, but still enough walking room!
10. Make your maps friendly to all the hero/squads you own! Make a place for flyers, sharpshooters, and close combat.
I hope this is a great help to you, guys who only have one set of every thing. Feel free to update this list, I'll update ocne or twice a week.
Happy scaping!

I think that kid is on this site too...can't remember who he is but i followed his link in one of these threads to the YouTube vids
My helpful hint is start in the middle and then build out from there...if you want symetry it is easy to achieve based on the number of people playing the scenario as you just add equal tiles to each side
I hate symetry...I think you should be draft your army and plan your strategy based on the terrains advantages and disadvantages

It's quite possible I had a sore throte (sp?), but then again, I always have a sore throte (sp?)
Sorry I called you K/H, I have no idea why I did that.
I don't really read the comments on my videos, as I know they're as good as I can be bothered doing, so I don't need to read insults and/or comments.
But one thing puzzles me, I understand I have too much f'ing time on my hands, and I sound like a f'ing nerd, but what was the first bit? I'm a ______ in _____? :?

HS, post some links to your instructional vids...I seem to have little or no imagination with custom maps so far. Maybe I should let my kid take over the map building... :brickwall:

I checked out the vids on youtube. Sweet stuff. I am going to utilize the bunkers and make a map utilizing bunkers.

Carnival Man: Here you go! Episode one, the others get linked somewhere on that page. MCF, Ep. 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qbnye49E3sQ)
Thanks chezious, and thanks markwars. (means a lot, coming form a prominent 'Scaper such as you)
I try. Currently my house is going through a re-haul, as in all the 'Scape is moving from my room to the basement. I'm either going to need to find a new spot to film, or I'm going to be lugging the stuff up and down stairs every couple of days as I try out new set ups for videos. ^^;;
