AWESOME!!!

Dzu-Teh are great, good to know that more than Kyrie have rallied to Jandar's cause. They seem smarter than one might think, with the idea of choice as opposed to slavery, as is the case with Obsidians.

I was really close with Jotun, but instead of going extinct they were hunted by early Elves. I hope his brothers are summoned, they would make a cool trio.

I was close with Braxas, too. An arrogant, powerful, beautiful dragon, evil as she is powerful. I would like to see a cult to worship her...

Nilfheim sheds light on Icaria - it's not a world run by dragons, it's a world with dragons as gods! That's really cool, with each type of Dragon being a lord of some sort, with Vassals to serve them. Along with the vassals are people who are "Icaria for the Humans!", trying to restore a balance of power. Kickass.

Q9's, though kinda cool with showing that there is a Raknar, is still somewhat bland. I still have no idea what the hell is up with the actual robot.

Theracus, well... I was so close it's scary. I originally envisioned him as a ferry of sorts for Morsbane's family, one of that pals around with Ashrans. However, he's more of a splice, a ferry that pals around with a Princess. I guess he was taken along with the girl of Thorum's Journal - awsome. I expect to see her soon.

Nilfheim's got the best bio of the bunch. It expands our view of both Valhalla and Icaria and at the same time gives the white dragon personality, grace and benevolence. His ferocious personality just came into question though.

Jotun's bio is neat. The brothers would be a great addition, but I'd also like to see these barbarians too.

I actually really like Q9's bio. I mean, I've never pictured the guy as particularly deep. He's a walking death machine built for the sole purpose of walking and inflicting death. No reason to give him any sort of purpose, rather just make sure we know he was terrorfying long before we fought him ourselves.

Theracus's story is nice, but it doesn't feel complete. What mission? How does it fail? Even if the princess tells us the rest of the story, Theracus's bio shouldn't be so devoid of such details.

Braxas has a solid bio, though I really don't feel other Dragons are THAT afraid of her :D

The Dzu-Teh sound good as well. I really need to go about making the snowy fortress with Dzu-Tech guards.

.

Wow really? I thought that was perfect for Q9. That is how I pictured the bot, a killing machine, which does not do much other than that. He also has that fear factor on the board, and is usually why when fielded he becomes an instant target. But everyone has an opinion. As for the rest, they are good, heres to hoping Hasbro finally gets the site up to date

Visions of a horrific battle play out in the prophet Raknar’s mind. The elderly kyrie lies still, his eyes glazed white, as he narrates the terrible scenario. He tells of a dragon, and of an elf on a winged steed with the head of a hawk. But his face grows pale as a new vision appears, and he stammers, grasping for words: "A wingless man, made of steel, enormous is his stature and girth. From his long arms flow smoke; his lifeless eyes show no mercy as all in his wake are destroyed and fall. Those who reach him with sword and bow find that they cannot pierce this giant’s metallic flesh." Then the prophet goes silent. Sheer terror contorts his face as he utters one last phrase, a phrase that makes little sense to the listener: " . . .Q. . .Nine."

That is one of the best bios yet!!!

We know just as much about the Soulborg Major as we did before - next to nothing and that he is a killa!!!

Could these bios have the first mention of humans not from Earth?

Jotun's bio mentions "barbarians" and Nifhiem's bio mentions a "dragonslaying cult." The is no direct reference to these being humans, but there is no reference to another race either.

If they aren't human then what race are they. Elf barbarians on Feylund? And what race are the Icarians? I always assumed that Icaria had only dragons and dragon-like inhabitants.

Interesting either way.

I picture the Dragon Slayers as again humanoid, but you never see their faces. They are clad head to toe in dragon scale armor, who knows what they look like under there.

I'd have to look through my bills to verify, but I think it was early May when I ordered 4.5 from the Hasbro site. I made two purchases around the same time. One was to get the rest of my wave 4 (they had some sort of buy one get one half off sale) and the other was to buy 4.5 (Tundra and large heroes) which was a free shipping offer.

I remember someone posting when they received their Tundra. It was way ahead of everyone else, but I don't remember when it was.

flashy write-ups. i like 'em. although it seems the dragons got bios that actually read like bios. the write-ups for Jotun, Theracus and Q9 are more like snippets from a larger story - hardly what i would call a bio.

I agree with you on all counts. I just don't like the last three you mentioned. I would rather have bios more in line with the rest of the bios we've seen up to this point.

This seems like odd logic to me. The old bios just lack a sort of innovation. I think that the Dzu-Teh, Baraxas, and Nilfhiem are the least interesting reads out of the bunch, don't get me wrong, they still have their place for variety sake, but I feel the bios should entertain as well as inform. Here is an example of why I feel both styles are just as merited.

Info gained from Baraxas (old bio style):
- Dragons are no rarity on Icaria
- Braxas stands out against the average Icarian dragon as exceptional
- Other dragons fear her
- Survive and encounter with her and you'll have nightmares for the rest of your life.

Info gained from Theratcus (varient bio style):
- Feylund has at least two moons
- Feylund has seasons similar to our own
- During harvest time two of Feylund's moons are full at the same time.
- The elven government has some sort of Monarchy in place (elven princess)
- There is an illusion to a larger story. The elves seem to know Feylund is in mortal danger and are seeking to prevent it.
- Kyntela Gwyn, whom we assume is a new elf coming out has a prior relationship to Theratcus.
- We know the elves are fighting a losing battle against evil on Feylund

I think you see my point. I'll never knock innovation until it jumps the shark. And then to complain about these bios when we used to get such ho hum reads as this:

Growing up in the Republic of Texas, life was hard for little Johnny Sullivan. His family owned a huge ranch, which was constantly in danger from outlaws and cattle rustlers. Johnny had to learn early how to protect the ranch from outside dangers.

His father taught Johnny how to use all kinds of rifles and six-shooters. When Johnny Sullivan grew up, he decided that he wanted to be a lawman like Wyatt Earp or Bat Masterson. He became famous for holding off a whole group of outlaws all by himself with his favorite Shotgun. From then on, all the locals knew him as Johnny 'Shotgun' Sullivan.

And now we get intense action-filled bios like this:

Sheer terror contorts his face as he utters one last phrase, a phrase that makes little sense to the listener: " . . .Q. . .Nine."

There hardly seems room to complain. No offense to whomever wrote the old bio, it just seems... nothing happens. It gets the job done, but without any flair.

In the same vein, people complained about the new Thromun's Journal because it didn't have enough spice. Now there are complaints that the bios aren't straight forward enough like the old ones... that lacked spice.

To each there own I guess.

I like all kinds of bios. The new ones seem to be hinting at a story, and I like that since Heroscape nneds more back story if you ask me.

Gosh and they sure beat the ones written by Orcs:

"Theracus taste like chickin!!"

I agree, the more fluff the better. I am glad that they hired some writers to fill the void. I am excited to see updates. I hope they keep it up. I don't like to be kept hanging. :)

Now they have the harder part to do: two full waves full of diverse characters. The way they are weaving information for upcoming characters in with old characters takes a little planning.

It is good that the story is getting more complex and detailed, since that can lead to more story based scenarios.

Amen to that :!:

I absolutely agree with Truth, the old bios, kind of re-told us what is already on the card. But the new bios allude to a more interesting story. Story is more important than retread.

First of all a comment to Hahn....this is a message board filled with geeks here to express our opinions. If everyone here wrote nothing but glowing praise to Hasbro what would be the point of having a free exchange of ideas? Heck, even Hasbro would find that useless and without any merit. Constructive criticism has led to all sorts of rulings, changes, and new ideas from Hasbro. If anything I think I should have offered a more substantial reason for not liking the new style of bios, but I certainly shouldn't be expected to just be happy to have something. I'm not busting Hasbro's chops, I was just expressing an opinion.

truth said it best with his last statement - to each their own.

Looking at truth's points I can concede that the new bios offer a LOT more information. I just don't particularly like the way they were written. I also appreciate consistency. That's just me though. If the new writers were to go back and rewrite all of the previously written bios then I would probably like them a lot more, but I am not going to start a rallying cry for this to happen.

And Chimpy, no one in this thread called them "bad bios". I expressed my opinion, as did the rest of you. My opinion appears to be in the minority, but that doesn't make it any less valid.

Let me start by saying that I'm not busting your chops...

Lately I have noticed that no matter what good stuff comes down the pipe some people still get bent over it and it makes my head spin. I mean gaming should...no strike that gaming IS about having a good time with your crew. A bio is nice, but not necessary to playing the game. It's fluff, but cool fluff.

Maybe it's just me. I mean the last few years I have tried to focus and enjoy the positive and not dwell on the negative. It makes me wonder if some folks have a better time complaining about Scape instead of having fun playing Scape.

It's the internet. The place where everyone can work out their inferiority complexes by pointing out flaws in other people's work. I'm so used to it now I don't think I even register them as complaints.

*waits for the inevitable "but shouldn't I be allowed to have a dissenting opinion?" post*

Hahn I think some people do enjoy complaining as a hobby. A few like that have been banned from this site thank Jebus. The last thing I want to be painted as is the new Reaper, but at the same point I think I should be allowed to say that I prefer the old style bios rather than the new bios without being called a complainer - not that you necessarily did that.

This is what I should have said. johnny139 nailed the exact thoughts that I so poorly expressed. Perhaps what I should have said was, "I love the bios. I like the new storyline. Hasbro, please give us more of both."

Can everyone view that statement as a wish rather than a complaint?

I've finally had a chance to check out the new "bios". I do agree with whomever said they are more story than bio, but the fact that seems to be overlooked (unless I over looked the fact elsewhere!) is that Jotun has 2 brothers! Can't wait to see them!

The last thing I want to be painted as is the new Reaper I'm almost certainly in the minority on this one, but I miss Reaper. Sure, he was a prickly character and difficult to get along with, but he spoke his mind. Sometimes he said what needed to be said when no one else would say it.

While I appreciate the fact that Reaper spoke out on things that others might not, my memory is too good to miss some of his other....shall we say quirks. No I never had it out with him, but his "holier than thou" attitude and haughty demeanor chased more people away than anything else. I don't miss reading posts where he was intentionally trying humliate newbs or ruffle the feathers of the staff. Of course some would say this site needs a new junkyard dog, but frankly I like the kinder gentler Scapers we have today. I just wish that Reaper could have found a way to tame his online persona, because I do believe that in reality he's probably a pretty nice guy.

BTW, why do all of my passing comments in this thread keep generating new debates? :P

It actually feels weird without a Reaper here. I mean, every other hobby I spend time reading boards about has at least one guy who is certain they can do a better job than the developers and spends every waking moment finding fault in their work. Those kind of people you find dying in the dessert that will gladly drink your water, then ask why it isn't carbonated.

Oh, right, the topic!
I've always kind of been take it or leave it on the bios, I just hated seeing "Coming soon" on the character sheets, kind of like having an "Under Construction" page on a company website, freaking have it or remove it, but don't lie!

So, I'm glad to see them, some I like more than others, and I have high hopes that we may see character pages and bios online before the actual characters hit the shelves for the next releases! Hmm, maybe I should hope for Thora's and Dawn of Darkness before I get all carried away.
