There is only one proper way to overcome a castle. That's with a siege tower. Please keep in mind this one is unfinished and the prototype. I'll post more pics as I finish it and start work on the better version.

Yet another great creation by one of our members, great job sea_wolf! but like I said in the other thread, a wood stain and a touch of ch1can0 magic would make it look even better! :D

I was looking at wood bobbins or what looked like wood thread bobbins that I thought would make for a perfect crack assembly. Looks like you are well on your way with this and what a shocker... do de do BLAM, here is a siege tower. hahah, I like it!

Here are the pictures of what the final version will be like. It is still raw wood but construction is complete. There will be a few changes made as improvements.

I like the first few pictures better. I don't really like the base shield/wall.
How is this monster going to be moved in the game? You will need many figures to move this. IMHO

The bar across the front just behind the shield wall (which is ugly to me too and will be one of the changes) sits on 4 hexes. If you line a unit of 4 along it they provide movement. 1 hex per hex of figure. 4 figures = 4 spaces. a double space figure = 2 spaces. That way the tower moves on that units order marker. To lower the ramps a figure on that level uses its move to work the cranks.

You dont stop it, hehehehe thats the idea behind a siege tower.
Really you could just open the castle door and climb on the tower and take the fight to the enemy. kill whatever is on the ground level pushing and make them come down after you.

Really. I was thinking more along the lines of a catipult but bringing the fight to the tower is easier. Yesterday I had a snow day and made a seige tower myself out of a shoebox. Its not nearly as impressive but it gets the job done.

While I will say that I like the idea and the construction aspects immensely...the tower is way too big for the movement ratios you gave (IMO)...its 30 levels high....I was working on a prototype myself for a 10 level high and a 20 level high seige tower but 30 is just massive
Sea_Wolf64
February 16th, 2007, 09:32 PM
actually from the wheels to the roof its 41 levels high. Its the grand version of my tower. I have smaller ones in the works but am working this one first as it is a prize at CoastCon this March and I need to get it finished. I also plan on making scaling rope ladders. A version of the Orc ladder used in Lord of the Rings, and am working on a drawbridge for the castle plus some regular bridges and a battering ram.
As for what rules I have come up with so far, here they are and please add your thoughts...
Movement = 1 hex for each single space figure pushing or 2 for a double space figure pushing. Maximum movement would be 4 hexes for a squad of four.
Ramps, a figure can use its movement to operate the cranks for the level it starts that order marker on.
The ramps on the prototype tower stop at the top of the battlements which would make the fall into the castle at 4 levels. Kind of a problem for most figures so I am making the next version 2 levels shorter so the ramps will come down at the level of the openings on the battlements making the fall 2 levels into the castle.

Thats a cool idea. I would like to see a picture of it if you can. I remember when I was young, a long time ago in a galaxy far far away, I would make things out of whatever I had. Now that I am older than most dirt if I cant find it I make it. I thought about different large weapons but havent started any of them.

If I could get my hands on some real building materials I would have already built all kinds of custom additions but as a kid in his teens I really don't have the resources yet. Hopefully someday when I have the materials and time I can whip up all kinds of new battle tools but for now I need to make do with what I have.

As I was playing a quick game yesterday something occured to me. The height of the inside battlement is 4 and so are the blade gruts. If you want to move onto the ramparts you need to role for falling damage if your height is 4 or smaller. Just a thought.

Look up a few posts on the rules I have for the tower so far. The first tower I had the ramps at the top of the battlement. The next tower the ramps will come down to the opening in the battlements making it a 2 level fall, or climb if you are going from the castle wall to the ramp

Hey, chief! What's your siege tower look like? Or anything else you've built? Or are you the idea man, just here to help out by talking crap about stuff you can't actually do?
In other words, big shot, put your money where your mouth is. Or shut your mouth.
Aviator, that's buckets of kick-arse compared to anything I have, and I think it's awesome that you took the time to put it together. If you've got time, make a pole so Chief can spin on it.

Sorry sea wolf, but I actually like ariealaviator's better.
Yours is a work of art, and it's wonderfull! But... A) I could never make it. I have time, but not enough patience. And B) If I did get up the patience to make one {there aren't instructions*} I'd be afraid I'd break it.
So, while I think yours is very asthetic, and BEAUTIFUL!! I tend towards things I can replicate...
{*Well, technicaly, I haven't seen instructions for ariealaviator's either, but I can kinda guess...}

.....I really want to delve into the time a passion it takes to create something like this. If you had given some constructive criticism on the design, or at least put some humanity into your words I would hold a little more respect for you.
I will say this, in the future please try and be a little more tender with your words. I'm not saying to go into "baby-talk" or "yes-man" mode but to take a moment and give a thought to what you are about to say.
Even folks who contribute to the site don't talk like that to other members. Others who have made Dice Towers wouldn't for one minute say something like this let alone use the word "pathetic".
I won't stoop so low as to call you a name right now, but know that I am not one to let someone attack another member like that.
If you would like, look at the design, look at the thought put into it. Don't just look at the finished product, look at the thought, the time taken, ariealaviator did a great job with the materials he had. I'm certain that like anyone creating things like this, his skill will improve with each project.

ariealaviator, thanks for sharing your pics as well. I think it looks good and it serves it's purpose. Good job on that ! I hope to see more from you. If you have cardboard and paint there is an endless amount of other things you can make for your HS games. if you can get like $5 up and hit the store, grab some dry wall putty. You can use it to seal the seams of your cardboard creations. It also adds weight and texture without haveing to do anything but let it dry! Then you can build some houses, boats, bridges, fences, and more.
Also, keep your eye open at the things you throw away. A pringles can could be turned into a tower, or three bunkers with a little bit of cutting and adding some of that wall putty (wall spackle). A gallon jug of milk could be cut and half to make a hive for your marro. Cut it in half add some of the spackle, and some pieces of string, or rubber bands attached to rocks. You could make the rocks red and purple to look like fleshy organs.
You show a great deal of imagination with what I see, and the ability to create art with limited resources. Expand on that skill and you will be making some cool stuff, just like this. Please feel free to post any of your creations because I look forward to seeing them for sure! :)

When you start your own thread pm me. I want to see your stuff as you do it.
There are some things you can do to your buildings to add depth and texture before you go to apply your paint.. If you are able to pick up some of that wall spackle you will find out how useful it is, and it will last you a looooonnnggg time. You might even know someone that has a jar of it that doesn't need it right now or might let you borrow some of it.

The tower moves 1 space for each figure pushing it. It has nothing to do with what the figures speed is. hope that helps clear that up.

Great stuff.
Personally, I'd like the seige tower better if it had hit points to it. But as I'm unlikely to ever build anything so grand myself, it's a lot more important if you want it to have hit points or not.
Only seems fair to give the castle holders a chance to take it down, though, or the advantage of the castle is essentially gone. (Well, I suppose you can still kill all the movers). Then again, all the pushers can pretty much be standing behind the tower, which is a massive LOS blocker, right? So you'd have to send guys out after them - range would be moot.
I like this a lot. But I'd *love* it if you put hit points on the card and basically made it possible, but very, very hard to destroy.
