PLEASE READ before continuing:

Last year, I tried to come up with a mascot of sorts for 'Scapers.com. With a LOT of help from CupidsArt, the illustration master, we designed what a lot of people refer to as, "Kyrie Dude"... or maybe that's just me.

However, back on HQ, I was thinking of something a LOT different in terms of a mascot. I had a vision in my head, but I just couldn't bring all of the ideas swirling in my head and form them into one cohesive structure.

I knew that I had wanted the mascot to be female. But not so blatantly seductive and scantily clad that the character was misrepresentational of our female members. I wanted the mascot to be a cool looking kyrie, which represented the many diverse flavors of HS, and thus the diversity of our community... and did I mention she had to look cool?

I even threw out the idea that we could hire a model to dress up for a larger convention and hand out HQ swag! GrungeBob immediately stepped forward and said of it ever came to that, he would take on the task of interviewing models for the role.

All that said, I was browsing DeviantArt a shortwhile ago, and came across the following image by DA member "wildlifehoodoo". The image is a concept drawing for a client of his, but I couldn't help but exclaim in my mind, "THAT'S IT!" This was the vision I saw in my mind oh so long ago... though pictured with a katana... and maybe a tad less goth.

Take a look, and tell me what you think...

Again, I did NOT paint this...

It's pretty. I could see that as a mascot for Heroscapers, though, yeah, not as goth.

A little too "gothy" for me.

I like it. I don't have a problem with the gothiness, but as a rep for the Heroscape community I could see dropping some of it. And a katana would (obviously) make it cooler. :)

I'm of the same opinion.
Any chance of your Soulborg Kyrie becoming a mascot, H3x?

Yeah, as mentioned, the colors would be toned down. A little more neutral, as opposed to the black and brooding colors. But the costume is dead on. Not overly sexual or revealing. And the character looks strong and sleek.

Again, this isn't something I'm going to do. I just wanted to post a picture I found which stuck out as what I saw the first mascot concept to be. Maybe I'll follow up with this on down the line, as I know when blue kyrie dude came out, I had a lot of people ask, "Okay... but why not a dude?"

Regarding HeH's comment about the Soulborg Kyrie... that illustration also wasn't mine. Heh heh... another image posted as an example during a discussion of what Vydar kyrie may look like. But it was cool. :D

I just noticed that JustJohn's kyrie mod looks kinda similiar to the image I posted above...

Though as mentioned, I'd swap out the pistols for a katana... but that's just me. ;)

One of my favorite JJ mods right there, too.

I don't mind the goth look so much on the drawing as the Utgar-esque wings.

Holy CRAP. I immiedately vote for this kyrie-girl to become our mascot regardless of whether or not she's a bit dark for it- this IS a war game, and war's a game.. It's just the loser doesn't get to walk away from the table.. wait, that's not right.

In either case, She's definitely beautiful. I'd suggest asking the artist (it seems like he can be commissioned) to do a rendition more fitting of a mascot we'd like.

As you can see from the link below, this picture is copyrighted by Black Halo Entertainment.

Not trying to be a jerk here, but you'll have to find a new idea for a mascot. I'm sure the artist is just as flattered by the compliments as Black Halo Entertainment is, but we don't want our characters misrepresented.

Hextr1p,

As my business partner, Lucian, has explained, this is Halo Bauhaus and she is already a mascot of Black Halo Entertainment (as noted in the link you yourself referenced). The character and her likeness was copyrighted/trademarked by us years ago. I'm also very flattered that you like her so much, but please do not pursue using her as your mascot.

As you can see she is already used prevalently at BlackHaloSeries.com and my website DarenStrange.com.

Thank you for your cooperation.

You can similarly email me with any concerns at darenstrange@blackhaloseries.com

Edit: I realize you are looking to make a less "gothy" version of her. My partner and I are just trying to be certain our property is respected. For example, the cormorant wings Andy Jones created for her are a distinct part of the character. We appreciate your consideration in this matter.

Lucian and darenstrange, in case the email I just sent does not reach you, I decided to post the message here and address your concerns regarding your trademarked character:

I just wanted to address your concerns about the Halo Bauhaus image from DeviantArt.com I posted on HeroScapers.com.

I completely understand that the characted represented in the image is copyrighted. In no way was I going to duplicate the character with slight alterations and claim her as the mascot for the gaming fan site. I only posted the image as a loose example of what I was previously thinking when coming up with a mascot last year. Sort of a, "something like this", to give folks an idea of the original design direction.

Others who posted after me seemed to take the intent of the thread differently, and thought I was posting the image for the purpose of copying the character. You'll notice in the second paragraph of my second post that I again try to be perfectly clear that I was not going to design anything:

Quoted from post: "Again, this isn't something I'm going to do. I just wanted to post a picture I found which stuck out as what I saw the first mascot concept to be."

I do say afterwards that I might go back and follow up with a character based on my original designs. But in no way were those previous concepts based on this Halo Bauhaus character.

However, this second post may be where your concerns arose. Being a graphic designer professionally, I am very aware of copyright issues. Even if there is a hint of a problem with something a client passes on to me, I will be sure there is written and signed confirmation allowing the use of an image before I move forward.

Your character is great, the artist rendering is excepetional, and your trademark is safe. You will not see her on a web banner or t-shirt, unless it is specifically designed by your staff to promote your properties.

I hope this helps to alleveiate any stress brought on by the misunderstanding of this matter. I wish you both the best with your work, and if you have any further concerns or questions, you now have my email address with which to reach me.

Thank you for your time,

David Richards (aka, Hextr1p of HeroScapers.com)

David/Hex, Thank you very much for your 2nd post. That alleviated a lot of stress for me. With this being "internet communication" we had no idea what you were planning to do. So, I really do appreciate you respecting us and our character. Best of luck with your endeavors as well!

If you like that style, I would suggest contacting Andy Jones (the artist) and seeing if he's willing to take on more clients. I can't speak for him, as I do not know his schedule nor do I represent him in any way other than Black Halo's art commissions, but he might be willing to give your ideas a shot. =)

And a note to address some other comments: This character may seem like she's in her infancy, but in fact we've had a story in development involving her and her colleagues since 2002 (these things take a lot of time ya know). It's just now starting to go more public. And the website is indeed a work in progress with more to come this year. We are planning a full-on Black Halo world domination by 2008. ; )

Thanks again to everyone for the kind words on our character and Andy's wonderful art.

To the owners of the original image in this thread; if there is one thing we take very seriously at this website is copyright infringement. As it is very common for our member's creations to be stolen and sold on eBay by unauthorized persons using the images for their own profit. Many eBay auctions have been cancelled due to this type of theft.

I can assure you in no way was Hextr1p ever planning to use you logo in any way except as a sample of the direction he wanted his own art to go as it was similar to what he had in mind. His first post in this thread made it very clear he was not the owner, nor creator of the image and included not only the image but the name of the artist "wildlifehoodoo" and a link to its originating website location.

There are many artists that are currently members of this website, Hextr1p and myself included, and we take the unauthorized use in any way of our hard work very seriously. We would never allow "stolen" images to be used as part of our community.

And thanks to you too, Malechi, for taking this matter seriously and putting our minds at ease. We really appreciate it. I think there was just some miscommunication (and/or our misunderstanding) as to the intent of Hex's post. I appreciate Hex and you responding so quickly.
