Does anyone know of any house rules for a type of ambush scenario? I am thinking where the one oponent does not know the makeup or location of the opposing units. How could you have a "hidden" deployment of units for the one side? I am not sure exactly how you can keep the one side honest about where they deployed their troops. And I would figure the side being ambushed should have some kind of check to see if they can detect troops before they are revealed too. Any ideas would be great. I will try to think about it too a bit, and update if I come up with anything.

We used to play alot of mini war games back in the day and ambush scenarios are very prevalent....however in order to properly execute them you need a 3rd person to moderate and a map of the playing field.

you basically will make all movements on the map with the moderator until he/she determines that you are in line of sight or detected...it can be alot of fun...but alot of work for the moderator at times

you could have the ambusher write down where all his units are and not deploy them until necesary or until in line of sight of the ambushee.

You could make a scenario where one side sets up in the middle of the board, perhaps in a column, and then the ambusher can set up anywhere on the edge of the board.

Yeah I like that idea. Seems pretty simple. It would be nice to have some kind of hidden deployment too but this will probably work for what I want to do. The idea has to be simple enough for my son to understand. This fits the bill. I will give it a try and let you know how it turns out.

I tried an ambush scenario with my son last night. It well really well. He set up along the road on one end and I set up on the edge of the board behind some hills. See more here.
