Just an idea I thought of, haven't gotten to play with it yet, nor do I have pics, but I thought I'd pitch it here to see what everyone else thought anyway.
Somewhere on the map, I thought it would be cool to have a small stack of dice that figures could retrieve and later use. The stack would be 4 or 5 dice high. It would probably be best to use Valkyrie dice, as they would look better, especially if you lined up all the symbols on the same side. When a figure adjacent to the stack is taking a turn, instead of attacking it can try to take a die from the "shrine." As the dice are relatively large compared to the figures, a roll would be required to remove a die. I haven't gotten the roll requirements down yet, but I figured, rather than just a simple set of numbers, there'd be a formula based on the figure's size to determine how difficult it is for that figure to take a die from the shrine.
Here's what I was thinking: 20 - SIZE* - Height + #dice currently on shrine = # you need to roll or higher on d20 to take die.
For example, a Sentinel tries to take the first die from the top of a stack of 5. 20 - 2 - 6 + 5 = 17. The Sentinel would need a 17+ to take a die.
Let's take Braxas taking a lower die: 20 - 4 - 13 + 3 = 6+. Easy pickings for a dragon.
Roborat: 20 - 1 - 3 + 5 = well, there's no way that little guy will take the top die (21+).
*1 for small, 2 for medium, 3 for large, 4 for huge.
Once a figure has successfully removed a die from the shrine, place the die on that figure's army card. Whenever that unit rolls an attack or defence, before rolling, it can add the shrine die to its roll. Once used, remove the die from the game. For squads, the die can be used by any member in the squad. There is a limit of one die at any time per army card.
Additionally, there could be a d20 on top of the shrine. The same roll would be needed to take it as the other dice. When a unit with the d20 on their army card would roll the d20, they can roll the one on their card in addition to the normal one, and choose the result they want to keep. Since not all units use the d20, but would likely want to take the normal dice, anyone who has the d20 on one of their army cards can also opt to use it in addition to their initiative roll, again keeping the result of their choice. The d20 is also removed from the game after use.
