I've got Craig lined up for the next podcast. So what do you guys want to know? Ask your questions here, I'll pick a few to ask Craig on the cast.

when will heroscape end?
why does a little booster cost $12.99?
will they ever have more control of what goes to the stores?

Awesome job Truth! It is just really cool that we have access to the designer of the game we all love so much!

Here's my possible questions:

Has Heroscape been a successful enough product for Hasbro that it will continue to be developed/produced for the forseeable future?

Will there be other "off-shoots" similar to Marvelscape for other licensed products?

Any chance of you coming out with "official" tournament rules?

Thanks again Truth!

Last summer, Craig teased us when he talked to Oogie Da Bruce. He said that his favorite terrain had not yet been released. Could he give us anymore information on that?

Also, please pass along how great it is that he's doing the podcast. :D

Might we see even a bigger presence at Gen-Con 07 ?

Any type of Tournament support in our future ?

It may or may not be appropriate, but are we planning on talking about the WotC taking over the rules clarifications? Specifically, I would like to hear how closely they work with designers to bring accurate and credible rulings. If this is not possible, meh, that's all right.

I know they don't want to offer five versions of the same army, but I'd like to hear about plans to flesh out Einar in the Large and Huge department.

And tell him thanks from me!

Ask if he could give specifics about expanding Heroscape asthetically, as in adding objects that don't serve much of a purpose besides looking pretty and decorating the landscape. I had things like bushes in mind.

Yeah, the terrain options are a little slim (though the glaciers are a nice recent addition). Who doesn't like a deciduous tree now and then? But we don't want to sound whiney. Just eager!

About the rules situation.

If you could ask him to explain how things have changed since WotC took over from Chris Dupuis.

Chris D. took any new questions to Craig. Is WotC expected to do the same? What caused the mistaken WotC rulings? What prompted their correction?

What prompted the Hasbro FAQ change, who is in control of it (who changed it), and what triggered the change? The FAQ change reversed several WotC rulings. Assuming Craig ordered the FAQ changed, how did Craig become aware of the bad rulings? Through reading Heroscapers forums? If so, can we expect FAQ updates to be triggered by our Rules forum threads discussing various issues? Should we still send questions to WotC?

It would be nice to get the complete picture on this, one of the big issues of the day. I'd think he'd expect to be asked about this.

Good job on getting Craig on the show! Quite a coup!!!

excellent. i was hoping the podcasts would be a way for Hasbro to allow Craig to give us some feedback (since it seems they don't want him to register on fan-based forums anymore).

all i want to know is what the orange start zone for "Ambush on Wolf Swamp Road" should look like. :)

Has Craig and the design team seen "The Codex"? If so, what do they think of it?

What is the expected release date for Marvelscape?

Is the design team continuing to work on new designs for units and terrain for classic scape? For Marvel?

Are any further 'scape spin offs in the plans?

Will there be a HS presence at the New York Comic Con in February?

Are Craig or Rob expecting to be in San Diego this year?

Is WotC looking into a Tourney scene?

Will there be an official HS site with a forum and such like for the WotC games?

I'd love to know if there is anyway we could get an "official" pdf download expansion on the official site for weakened common versions of the Masterset unique squads. Would be a really cheap way to possibly boost sales, as well as giving dedicated HSers with multiple mastersets a use for all of their extra figures (those without painting skills, at least). Did that make sense?

I, too, would love to know if there is any official tournament structure in the works with DCI.

Have they ever designed any heroes/units that Hasbro said they couldn't use?

That's really awesome that he is willing to do this. That's great.

Truly wonderful Truth. Nicely done. Most of my questions have already been asked but I do have one or two more.

1. Any plans for a brand new Master set with new figs, different terrain, and the whole nine yards. Completely compatible with Heroscape but also able to stand alone as our original Master set did.

2. Is Marvelscape possibly the end of our beloved Heroscape? Does he believe Marvelscape has the potential to undercut Heroscape's market and end any and all expansions for us. I would really feel good about hearing it from his mouth that Marvelscape is not where all the rescources are going to go.

Even if someone else has already mentioned your question, I think truth may want to know which ones are the most popular to ask, so I think we should quote and ditto as such. . .

Will there be an official HS site with a forum and such like for the WotC games?what ever happened to Hasbro's Battlefield Builder and the whole "My Heroscape" project that seems to have been scrapped by Hasbro?
Ditto to the above, in addition:

-Are there any official site new features planned? Please elaborate.

-Will there ever be a fan feedback and new units/ maps/ scenarios suggestions page on the official site? I understand the legal problems with designers taking suggestions from a fan site, but surely some legal disclaimer could be worked out for anyone who hits a submit button on the official site.

-On that note, will there ever be an official contest to submit figure ideas wherein the prize is one person's idea added to the actual game (sorta like Kimoshi)?

About the rules situation.

Ditto to all of the above. I have been puzzled about know how it is better to have a person on the opposite coast of the country answering questions previously answered by someone who could walk to Craig's desk. Unless of course the WOTC involvement eventually means. . .

Is WotC looking into a Tourney scene?
-Seems like a logical assumption, no :?:.

-Speaking of tournies, whether from WOTC or not, when are we getting official tourney rules?

A few new subjects to consider:
-will Hasbro ever sell storage and display containers for Heroscape? If so, when and where might we see these available? (I would presume online sales only, or maybe even HouseMouse too, you know it would sell there for sure ;).)

-What wave is he currently working on? Any teaser tidbits he can offer?
-If new Heroscape development ever ends, would the fans be warned in advance? If so, how far in advance?

-truth, see my PM, I have a special guest caller idea for you.
Congrats to you on getting Craig's interview locked in!

Remember that day when he sent us over to the official website to check out the video that was there...the one with the wolves, and the new deathwalker...and the marro dragon.

I'd like to ask Craig when we'll see more Wii's... wait, wait.

I like most people would like to ask about WOTC. Will that relationship be deepening more and how?

The official website is of course a big topic as well. Do they plan on still doing bios? Will they ever release battlefield builder? I loved the tips they had for playing characters on the army builder. Will they keep doing that?

Are there plans for more licensed 'Scape products?

Where does he see the brand growing over the next couple of years? How does it need to change to survive? Does it even need to change?

Thanks for doing this truth. I haven't posted it elsewhere, but the podcasts are awesome. I love being able to listen to 'Scapers on my ipod while I'm washing dishes, exercizing, or pretending to watch my wife's craft shows. This will be the best one yet.

EDIT: As soon as I ask for character tips, I see the poll on the website is asking about them. They read my mind!

Truth, Obviously a great guest you have lined up… the ultimate guest I would assume you will every have. Hopefully this is only the first of several pod cast visits Craig will have with you. ( this is also a question – will he be also be guest again in the future? )

We all assume he and others peruse Heroscapers.com from time to time. I would be interested in knowing how much he visits us and what kind of impact ( if any ) Heroscpaers makes on the game and the directions they go with it. I would like to think we contribute at least a small percent.

I want to know about these things:

1) WoTC and all that that implies.

2) Hasbro reaction to the Codex.

3) Marvelscape details, expansions etc? Will Marvel be the only brand or can we expect more versions of scape in the future?

4) Upcoming expansions - terrain and figures. A teaser for 07' I guess.

5) Ditto on Gbob's question - Do Craig's "future gamer" kids influence his design?

6) Will we ever have official scenarios that comprise of more than 1 set of terrain?

7) Will Craig, or Rob, ever be able to pop into the message boards now and then or is that truly a thing of the past?

If I think of more I'll post again. Congratulations on this interview Truth, it's really awesome. Perhaps this could be a twice a year type interview? - sort of like a State of the Union Address for Heroscape?

Most of these questions have already been stated, but I am just letting you know my thoughts as well....

1. Tournament rules and tournament support.
2. Timeliness of the updates on the official site
3. When will we be seeing Heroscape v3 rules and will they include a FAQ of the most up to date info?
4. Are there plans for a VLA (very large army) rule set?
5. How soon till we can "trust" the rulings of WOTC?
6. Teasers for the upcoming waves.
7. Can the webcast from Craig become a ongoing feature (every other month or so...)?

And then questions about the big picture...
1. Has it sunk in yet that he might have created one of the next great "systems" in gaming?
2. How long can a game like Heroscape go before it "jumps the shark"?

Personal likes/dislikes
1. Favorite music or group
2. Favorite video game

I joined HQ in October 05....

Since then.....

I have made numerous friends; friends that supersede the confines of this game; friends I will have long after the luster of HS no longer bonds us

I have also introduced long time friends to the game and as a result our friendship was renewed and strengthened.

I have traveled to different states and cities, met so many people and have had a wonderful time

I have even met my girl through HS :-D

So many new experiences and new friends; new people in my life; it truly is amazing

I had the opportunity to meet Craig last year at GenCon. Craig was a busy man (yes, even at the Con), so I limited my conversations with him (plus I was usually playing 'Scape!). Anyway, I wanted to tell him exactly what Rev and Ry said in these two posts. I didn't want to sound like a sap, but the truth is that I've got more friends now than I've ever had before, both IRL and online. As sappy or pathetic as it may sound, it's true.

I would truly appreciate it if you could pass this along to him as well.

I lost my wife, her three sisters and their rich father and uncles. I ran over my dog thinking about map design. And my truck broke down when I filled it with stupid plastic hexes. My parents have armed themselves with semi-automatic weapons. My primary care physician will no longer treat me. I've contacted a half-dozen lawyers and they are all suing. Plus I'm having to have surgery by a complete stranger to remove those trees. [/evil imagination]

1. SIEGE WEAPONS?! Are they in our future?

2. What is the new "favorite" terrain pack he hinted at that hasn't been released yet, and if he can't give us details then when will we find out about it?

3. How did he originally come up with the concept of this game, where was he, what point in life, what were his inspirations, etc.

4. Is he aware of the answers that WOTC is giving out on the rulings? Does he know that many of them contradict his own rulings in the past?

5. Who designs the mega-maps for the Cons? Could they hold a contest for the community to design a "show map?"

6. Will there ever be a new MS, with mirror image 24-hex tiles, ruins, etc.

7. How does he feel about the success of HS so far? Does it meet or exceed his expectations? How does the Hasbro execs feel about the success of HS? How does HS compare to other Hasbro products, and how does HS compare to other companies products (like Monopoly or Scrabble or D&D)?

8. How long does he think that HS will continue to grow? What are his predictions for the future?

9. Why do the new products take so long to get to the retail stores, and what can he do to solve this issue. Could he talk with the retail distributors and straighten out the bad ordering of Wal-Mart and Target, with the abundance of certain packs and the complete lack of others? Are they even aware of this problem? What can we do to help?

10. Are there any other stores that are going to sell HS in the future? What about hobby shops and small game stores?

Will he come directly to my house and give me 5 of every pack? Of course, a gun must be placed against his head when asking this. :joke:

Will there be any "Big HeroScape News" at the upcoming NY Toy Fair?

Ditto. Will there be a presence at NYCC?

Given the fleecing that fans are taking on the secondary market, is it possible that Hasbro could implement UPC mail-in offers for exclusive figures? Perhaps after the con season?

Since a flag for Jandar came with the fortress expansion, could flags for the other four generals be included in the expansion packs of an upcoming wave?

Will there be any further use of the Valkarie Dice? -- seeing as you will never use more than 3 of the Vydar dice... haveing 12 of them seems a bit unessessary.

My baker's dozen burning questions.....

1. Is there any chance at all of Heroscape/Hasbro opening up a little more to the fans, perhaps in a fashion similar to collectible games such as Magic the Gathering, Heroclix, D&D/SW Minis, etc? It would be wonderful to see official website previews and articles discussing upcoming releases, as well as other official support and excitement, even if there was no organized play. Along these lines, is there any chance of a monthly or bi-monthly brief letter to be posted on the official site from Rob or Craig or other folks involved with the game? A little something to let us know what's going on with our favorite obsession?

2. As a follow-up, is there any chance of getting rough release schedules to the fans? Nothing that anyone needs to be held to strictly, just a rough notion of how many waves are coming this year, or perhaps an estimate of how many releases per quarter, to plan our cash. Are we getting a point-five wave after every even-numbered wave? Are we always getting three waves per year? Is the release schedule for 2007 thus Wave 6.5, 7, 8, 8.5, and 9? Will there be any special items (ie Castle) or store exclusives (ie Lava, Flagbearers, EOVs) this year? Could we perhaps get photos and names and other simple info on upcoming characters even if they don't want to give us the stats? Perhaps a preview that's just a few steps beyond showing us a shelf or simple display?

3. Can he provide any info on the packaging format for Marvel expansions, even if he can't tell us anything about who/what might be in them? Will they be the standard four or five heroes per pack, four packs per wave? Will squads ever enter into the game? Will there be any "large box" terrain expansions? What exactly are we getting in the Marvelscape Masterset and when can we really expect it to hit shelves?

4. Can anymore light be shed on compatibility issues between Marvel and Classic Scape?

5. Will Taelord and the Deathreavers receive corrected cards in upcoming print runs? Will there be new print runs of old expansions at all?

6. Are they actively pursuing/negotiating any other licenses besides Marvel? How likely is it that we will see Heroscape games based on Hasbro's other money-makers like Star Wars, Transformers, or GI Joe?

7. Is anything being done about the conflict between WOTC rulings and official FAQ rulings and simple readings of the cards? Who are we to trust when it comes to game rulings?

8. Will Gencon exclusives be available by any other means? Will there be exclusives for Marvelscape in addition to Classic?

9. Any chance of a little bit of info on upcoming terrain? Will we ever see all-terrain expansions of grass, rock, or sand pieces? Will we get more ruins/trees/objects and other bits of interest besides simple hexes?

10. There seems to be a little bit of a push lately towards using tightly themed armies or armies of all one general. Was this his intention from the very beginning? Is the mix and match aspect of Heroscape being back-burnered or will future releases return to a more wide-open sturcture?

11. We are told that Heroscape is a success. Without feeling the need to divulge exact numbers, how much of a success is it? Are we talking about a real mega blockbuster here that will run for years to come or simply a reasonably successful product that could end at any time? How do sales of the game compare to similar Hasbro-family products? How far in advance is Heroscape currently planned out? What's the long view?

12. Will we ever see a computer, handheld, or console version of the game?

13. We are told to expect some changes in 2007, according to the official site's non-poll poll of late 2006. Any info on this? Is the game changing in some drastic way or is this merely a packaging change? If it is a packaging change, what was the motivation behind it? Is it a simple cosmetic change to attract new eyes? If so, why was that deemed necessary in a successful product? Is it a content change? Will there be more/less items per package in future releases? If so, will older items be repackaged and sold according to the new system? Is the actual design of the game itself changing? If so, will the new elements still match the old?

I know that they've released cartoon shorts for Heroscape on the website, but is there any chance that Heroscape may be a cartoon series on Cartoon Network, Kids WB, etc.? It would definitely promote the game and perhaps give some background information to the history of some of the characters. They could also release dvd's with exclusive figures attached. :D

See I'm not really interested in this. We've already gotten some info on how the project developed....or at least enough to satisfy me. It grew out of Epic Duels and other earlier games. That's enough for me. I can understand folks wanting to know more about Heroscape's past but I for one am far more interested in it's present and especially it's future.

Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion on which questons they'd like to be asked. Not everyone who will be listening to the podcast has been around since the game first dropped in late '04. And not everyone has listened to or read the various HS designer interviews posted throughout the 'net.

Hopefully Truth will have enough time to try and cover the past, present, and future of the game to make the interview as complete as possible. However, having listened to just about all past designer interviews, it will be interesting to see how Craig handles questions regarding future product. Previously, the only answer given has been something along the lines of, "No comment."

That said, however this comes off, I'm sure Truth has a plan to make the cast great... aside from the fact that he is interviewing CVN!

I like history I suppose. Weird, because the saying goes that if you don't know the past you are doomed to repeat it. But in the case of HS, a repeat of it 30 years from now wouldn't be bad.

Of course I don't mean an exact repeat, but the good aspects of HS are a legacy of how to make a great game, and that is a lesson that must never be forgotten.

I've got to figure out a way to listen to this....my computer is agonizingly slow with it's dial-up crapptacularness and thus downloading it at home is virtually impossible. The local library frowns upon listening to anything out loud...I think they actually lock the volume, so even if I bring headphones it won't matter. What to do, what to do.

Hopefully the choicest nuggets will be discussed in the forums so I won't have to figure out how to listen to the actual audio. Here's to learning something good about the future of scape!
