View Full Version : REALLY cheap waterfalls

Because I don't like stacking water tiles to create high waterfalls, I started making some from paper.
While this is definately not for everyone, I like that I can make waterfall overhangs that units can walk and take cover behind.

This should be available in the Downloads section under Bin-O-Goodies or you can grab it here http://homepage.mac.com/vigprints/FileSharing6.html

Hi teekay,

what about a molten lavafall with a lava texture with a motion blur towards the lower end? :)

Bye, Chicano.

This is totally cool. I'm going to get these right now.

And do you think if you make some more of these you can mark the levels so you can climb the waterfalls.

Edit: My bad just saw them in the download.

Oh my...These are amazing. Very simple to make, very simple to add to anymap, you get my vote.

Thanks for the praise, everyone. Hope you find them useful. :)

I wish I had a better camera for sharing these images.

I never thought of that. I'm no Malechi, but I'll give it a shot.

Is it possible to cut it so its a solid waterfall with no holes to go behind it?

This is a pretty cool idea. Except why is there a grid on the blue?
Wouldnt a rushing water design look better?

Teekay, those're spectacular. Great idea. I'm going to need to print and try them out some time!

I'm not sure what you mean.

After playing around in Photoshop trying to make just the right rushing water visual, I got frustrated and went with the basic blue to compliment the plastic water tiles.

As for the blue grid; solid horizontal lines equal 1 land hex in height and can be used as a measuring device in the game (similar to the pattern on castle walls.) The horizonal dotted lines equal 1 water/lava/ice tile in height. The solid vertical lines are where you can either cut or fold to the length you need. All other grid lines are to help cut the waterfall to the exact size you need. :)

I just updated the waterfall PDF on my web page. Nothing major, just fixed some solid lines that needed to be dotted and modified the top tab pattern. (You don't really need to cut out every other tab along the top.)

Lastly, I started a molten lavafall. I'll post it later in the week.

I'm talking like so its a solid waterfall that your figures can not hide behind it.

I'm talking like so its a solid waterfall that your figures can not hide behind it.just make enough of them to face all of the sides of the overhang.

so i haven't seen anything in the custom terrain thread that really caught my eye so far but this is definatly something i could do. i've always wanted to do waterfalls but i never have enough water tiles to do them. but this is even better seeing as you can walk behind them. thanks!

I'm having a hard time folding them on the lines so I havent been able to set them up yet. :(

Put the sheet against a window with the back facing you. Put a mark at the top and bottom of the line you want to fold. Then, using a ruler and a ball point pen, draw a line. This will allow you to fold very accuratley.

HTH :D

bad_calvin, that's a pretty cool looking waterfall. What the heck IS that?

lex, Shieldcrusher is right. All you need to do is score the fold line to make a nice even crease. By score, I mean lightly cut along your fold without cutting deep enough to actually cut all the way through the paper. It takes practice scoring using scissors or a hobby knife, so try Shieldcrushers idea of using a pen first. :) Also using a straight edge as a guide to cut along helps too. (I use a flat metal ruler.)

Finally, I forgot to mention, use a thin tip blue maker along the paper edge to hide the white card stock when viewed from the sides.

It is just spare fabric material. You can get it anywhere, Your grandma might even have some in her sewing kit. You just tuck it under the top hex, and let it drabe down. It looks better then the picture shows, and the color is dead on.
