View Full Version : What might you use with the Gladiators?

I was going to participate in a pretty big game (6 players) and was trying to come up with a draft list. I figured that if I get last pick and all my favorites are taken, I might go with Spartacus and his buddies, since I doubt anyone would take them. If you were playing a 500 - 550 point game, and you took the Gladiators (380 points) that leaves 120 - 170 left. What would be good picks for those remaining points?
I kind of see the Gladiators as good at taking out heroes and large figures, so I was trying to find low-cost figures that would be good against squads, range, and flyers! Any ideas?

I'd go with the Nakita Agents. 120 points brings you to 500 total.
In order to fully benefit from Spartacus, you need to place all of your order markers on gladiators. So Sparatacus gets your X and Crixus gets 1-3. Repeat until Crixus is dead, then put 1-3 on Retarius. When he dies, you can bring in Spartacus and the Nakitas, since order marker placement isn't restricted now.
In the mean time the Nakita's smoke powder will protect the Gladiators that are waiting their turn.
If you go over 500 points, you could add Guilty or the Marro, but just make sure they're also protected by the Nakitas until the endgame.
Also, you can play this 500 point army with the purchase of single expansion pack. It's probably the cheapest 500 point, as far as actual dollars.

For 170 you can take Theracus, Syvarris and Guilty. Very flexible and mobile. For 120 I'd be really tempted to go AE (@110). It's a threat that can't really be ignored and packs a lot of punch from height.

That would be my suggestion as well, though in a multiplayer game AE don't do so well after being targetted for 2+ turns in a row...but Gladiators should be able to stick around long enough for the drop and one may even risk a delayed drop and ignore successful rolls in the early rounds in hopes of cleaning up towards the end of the game. If you are allowed 550 points, a squad of vipers might be good - use 'em early and hope for some good rolls, if they don't succeed, o well.
Raelin is always good for multiplayer games, helping one stick around.

These are great ideas, guys, thanks! I think I like the Nakita idea best, because as I said, the Gladiators are already good at killing heros, and the Nakitas should be able to take out squads.
I usually don't like moving one piece at a time in a game until they die and then moving my others. It just doesn't seem realistic, but with 6 players on the field, I don't think anything will last without a great defensive strategy.

You can try the download section; he used to keep it on his signature, but I noticed he got rid of it. Also, if you PM me and have VS, I can email it to you. However, nothing is set in stone. We will most likely use that map, but we have over 6 people attending now, so we might change things. Again, try the download section and look for Ty's Infernal Wellsprings. It is a really good map!
