This movie is out now in the states (came out a while back in the UK).
It's being billed as the best movie of the year (definately of 06, at any rate).
I truly recommend it. It's a very British film, but the message is very universal. Regardless of what you thought of the book, the film is truly a must-see.
Saying that, have any of you yank's seen it yet?

Sorry I am going to pass. I have a rule about seeing films based on books I have read. I think this one is no different. They have changed a lot from the book.

Fair enough, though I am intrigued when/why you acquired that rule? Whats wrong with judging a film as a film and a book as a book? I mean, I know where you're coming from, many films have dissapointed me in their conversion, but thats just been a bad film.

Well there is bad film, and then you realize that sometimes a movie would have to be 6 hours long to do it right.
From my buddy Bruno who saw this in Edinburgh a few weeks ago, He said the main characters relationship role was changed as well as the role of the "the 5 fishes"
I won't pay $$ to see it, but I will catch it on Sci Fi in a year or so.

I can dig that - I hardly go to the cinema anymore and never rent DVD's. However, when you do watch it (if), try and get the best experience you can sound wise - audio is a BIG part of the cinematography (a subtle ringing in yer ears for 5 minutes or so, explosions, that sorta thing), not to mention the best soundtrack since resevoir dogs.
