I am one of the lucky ones that has a gamer for a girlfriend. We have quite a few games and try to play a few games a week.
I thought I would start keeping track of the games with a diary of sorts and post a recap of what happend and keep a running tally of the win/loss records.

The first game of the night was a new one that we just got. I picked it up at Toys R Us for $20. I have nothing but good things about it and was not disappointed after playing.
Nexus Ops (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/15363)
It took us about 15 minutes to go through the rules and learn the steps of the turn. I don't think we did anything wrong, but its inevitable when we go back to play it again we learn something that we did wrong the first time we played. We will see...
I like this game because its different than anything else we have. I won't go into a review of the game or anything, just a recap of what happened. We started off kind of slow, buying humans and Fungoids to do some exploration. It went back and forth for awhile, buying cheap units and exploring, after all the exploration was completed, oogiezone had revealed and now controlled all 4 of the 2-Rubium mines, they were all on the four spaces in front of her home base! I thought for sure I was going to lose, she was producing about 6 more Rubium than me every turn. Once the fighting started she started to advance forward towards my homebase. She controlled the Monolith for a couple of turns and then left it to attack me (I don't think she realized the power of controlling it). Eventually I took control of the Monolith with 3 Lava Leapers, I didn't give up control of it until the last turn of the game. It comes to a point where the game is drawing to a close she has 8 points and I have 9 points. I have been filling up my hand with Energize Cards from the Monolith. She wins 2 battles to play a secret mission worth 2 points and gets another mission putting her up to 11 points. I have to get 3 points, I have a secret mission that if I win a battle and don't lose anyone I get 2 points. I played a card that lets me move my Leapers 2 spaces (I have 3 of them). I moved 2 of them from the monolith to a space of hers that had a human, fungoid and a strider. I moved 4 striders onto a space that had 4 of her humans on it. Finally, I moved my dragon next to that space that has 4 of her humans and rolled a 5 for the breath, killing one. Now I roll for my Striders and get 2 that were high enough to hit, I played a card that lets me add +2 to a die roll so I killed her Humans and played my secret mission for 2 points, giving me 11. Next I battled on my lava leapers space, I rolled 2 that were high enough to kill and used another +2 to a roll to get the final hit, and the mission card for the Victory. It came down to the wire and I won because of all the Energize Cards she let me draw by not trying to take the Monolith from me. There were some other really good plays but I don't remember them all. This is a good game, it reminds me of Starcraft mixed with Axis and Allies.

Carcassonne (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/822) with Inns and Cathedrals (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/2993), Traders and Builders (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/5405) and the Games Quarterly Expansion (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/26615)
We decided to play a variant this time and kept 3 tiles in our "hands." I liked playing this way, it gives you that ability to plan ahead a little bit, which came in handy a few times during the game.
It was a pretty friendly game...to start. We were both sticking to our own stuff getting points here and there. Then things turned ugly. She started expanding a city way more than I could let her get away with so I had to jump in and try to steal it from her. She had 1 guys in the city to start, then I jumped in with my Giant Meeple to tie it up. She couldn't leave it at a tie and had to try and steal it back, which she did with her Giant Meeple, but it opened up an opportunity for me to tie it up if I drew the tile to finish the city. A few turns go by and neither of us are getting it, we move on and go about our business elsewhere. Near the end of the game (about 15-20 tiles eft) I drew the tile that would fit and finish the city.It was a 22 tile city, with 5 shields, the cathedral, 3 wheat, 2 barrels, and 2 ribbons in it. We both got 81 points but I got all the goods. The game ends a few turns later and we are scoring our fields and stuff, before adding in the goods it was 268 to 250 with her leading. I had the most of all the goods so I got 30 points making the final score 280-268, a very close game that came down to the wire.

Through the Desert (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/503)
I had some really good placements. We started off fighting for one side of the board going back and forth blocking each other and fighting over the blue camels. I closed off a large area with my blue caravan and she cut my green caravan off with her blue caravan. I closed off another area with my pink camels and that pretty much sealed the game. Before counting up the enclosed areas I had an 89 to 71 lead, she only had 2 points in enclosed spaces and wouldn't let me count mine. :(
We have had this game for a couple of months now and I think until tonight I had only won twice. She normally completely owns me at this game. I think I threw her off her game beating her at Carcassonne and the close victory in Nexus Ops, shes not used to losing because she normally beats me.

Sequence (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/2375)
She wanted to play something easy and required no thinking so we broke out sequence. This game is pretty fun, almost all luck based, but fun. To make a long and boring recap short, I won because I drew 3 jacks and she only drew 2.

A 4-0 night for me. Go me. She's not too happy right now. Tonight was fluke and the next gaming night will be back to normal and she will start kicking my butt again.

Oh trust me if the shoe was on the other foot and she was winning all the games (which she normally does) she wouldn't let me win.

Tell me about it. I played Burnout 3 against mine recently and figured I'd take it easy on her. She finished first and I finished dead last in sixth place. The sad part is after I let her take the lead, I was trying. Never again.

I think she let you win, NS.
Be prepared for some pain next game night.

BTW, enjoyed the game night synopsis.

Yeah, I told her. She doesn't post much anymore, but I am sure she will chime in from time to time, particularly after the next game night and she kicks my butt.

Hey Nether,
I know you like all the Carcassonne expansions, but I'm curious as to your rating for them, comparatively. At this time, for exps, we have River I & II, Inn & Caths, and I just grabbed the Count yesterday (haven't played it yet though).
For primarily 2-player games (luckily my wife LOVES Carcassonne (and Ticket to Ride - another great game)), which exps are good to pick up? How do the Count, Dragon, King, and Builders rate?
Thanks!

Edit:
OK, I was able to find one of the original Carcassonne discussions on the board where you already gave more detailed opinions from your playing experience. Good info and good links to reviews. I actually returned the Count today and instead picked up Traders & Builders. I look forward to trying it out! I looks like it will add some new fun options and incentives, without overwhelming a casual gamer (ie: my wife) as it looks like the Count would have (my wife is VERY competitive and a good player, but doesn't enjoy too much complexity in a game). Plus, from what I read, the Count isn't that great for only 2 players.
