I got Alhambra for Christmas!

For anyone who doesn’t recognize this game it is by Queen Games and can be played by 2 – 6 players. The games consists of tiles ( buildings ) and cards ( money ). The goal is to build the best Alhambra. Each turn you can pick up money, build, or reorganize you Alhambra. You score points by counting what you’ve built compared to you opponents as everyone has the opportunity to build Seraglios, Gardens, Arcades, Pavilions, Chambers, & Towers. You also get point for each continuous exterior wall segment ( that are randomly laid out on the tiles ). This scoring system happens randomly at approx 1/3 thru the game and again 2/3 way thru you add up your scores. Then one last time at the end of the game.

It is quick and easy games that 30 min or take less to play. Our family has fun playing and this would be a game I could recommend ( next to Heroscape of course ).

I preferred Stimmt So. The game that Alhambra was based on. And no doubt a purist will pop up, shake his head, and remind me that Al Capone was the game that Stimmt So was based on.

We've played Alharmbra about 3-4 times now and I really like it. I like it because it has some similarities of other Euro games we play but does play different enough to provide some variety. Have fun!

There's another game I've enjoyed called Palazio or Palacio, or some such, but I can't find the name. It sounds similar - you have an area which you must build your villa. You can have libraries, chapels, lakes, etc. You try to attract scholars, artists, and the like, and bid on things each round. Very fun.

I've been to Alhambra many times. It is the name of a city in Los Angeles.

Ya I didn't know they named Alhambra after a suburb of Los Angeles  My American History book didn't go back to the 12th Century! When I get to LA next time I will have to take a tour down there to check out the Moorish architecture
