View Full Version : Thoughts Of Possible Figures!
Jandars_Hope
May 26th, 2006, 06:10 PM
I don't know whether or not this has been done before, but i'm gonna post this anyway because i love these sort of topics:
What New Figures would you like to see in possible new sets?
-I'd like to see, firstly, more einar characters cos he really doesnt have to best army!
-Pirates (AARRGH! a captain hero and a swashbuckling crew!)
-A Mummy/Living dead Squad (after sudema was released i though she should have an undead army...maybe with a power to suck the life out of people eg.when attacking, if rolls a 11+ then it puts 1 marker on the opponent and takes one off sudema or another friendly figure?!)
-Wizards and Witches (i know we have morsbane but u can never have too many wizards)
-Baby Dragons? (a maybe a squad of baby dragons?! I LOVES ME DRAGONS!)
-Native American Indians (we got cowboys so it makes sense)
-A Gorilla General (for the Gorillanators)
-Better Archers (the ones at the moment tend to lack much att./def.)
Well thats all i can think of at the mo...but post ur ideas, cant wait to hear them!

I like this post...but you want an archer better than Syvarris. Hold on and let that sink in for me for a minute...
Okay...it didn't. If there's an archer released better than Syvarris, then he'd likely be the most powerful guy in the game. Too powerful probably. If you need to use Syvarris' defense for something, chances are you aren't using him right. And, if he ever defends for what is written on his card, you definitely aren't using him right. +1 for elevation.

ok i may have exaggerated a little...i mean come on im in the uk and its like 11.15pm...im tired!
And don't take no offence about Syvarris cos when i first got the master set he was my fav.character!
Oh ive forgotten what i was gonna add....*thinking*....*gone*

Aaahhh I see you have met some of our other scapers, aren't they fun :bang: Anyways this is a good topic and I say welcome to the boards JH, if you have any questions about things let us know.. good to have you aboard.
Anyways I do want pirates, I think the water thing has really not been used at all, possible even a group of mermen or Atlanteans. We also have no four legged mech units so to speak. Bionic wolves for the Dw's or such. I really want many more giants and trolls, Krug is by far my favorite looking character and I would love a few more like him.

Oh! My bad. Forgot to welcome you. Sorry about that Jandars. Welcome to HS and the scapers website. Awesome to see players over seas. I am over in the U.S.
I agree, why is it whenever a new guy asks a question that so many older members refer to it as useless, that they have the need to post in the thread telling them how pointless and what a waste of time it is. Just wondering

JH - I like your mummy idea...sucking life to heal Sudema. She could use that. They would probably need to be unique though.
How about some modern day characters? So far I think we only have Micro Corp. Who else is there?
I'm thinking an ultimate fight champion...yeah a cage fighter...named Kip.
Seriously, what units can derive from right now, 2006? (from earth)

This is always a fun and popular topic, no matter if anything new comes out. That's probably why there will soon be 15 pages of it!
Historical: I would vote for Pirates. Celts might be nice (think Boadicea, not Alistair). I guess it would be way too controversial, but nazis for Utgar would be fun to juxtapose against the AE.
Fantasy: Obviously, Dwarves! Undead so that there would be someone for Sudema to be queen of. I wouldn't mind some sort of meso-american birdmen. A Conan style barbarian hero. Goblins or some other Small creature.
Sci-Fi: I would like them to flesh out the Omicrons more. Martians a la Mars Attacks. More Primadons. I guess I'm really not that big on Soulborgs.

Last time I checked this was a message board, and not the battlefield. So until my Morsbane takes away your Thorian Speed let's all just be friendly here.
Don't like a topic, don't voice your opinion. Someone voices their opinion in your topic and you don't like what they said? Ignore them.

Fresh Meat?! Oh...I mean welcome. This is going to take me a dozen posts just listing a little bit at a time.
First off, I want to see more of the Norse mythology.
More giants...possibly ones focused on Fire and Frost
Fafnir...although Mimring may already be based off him
Dark Elves
Elf Queen
Dwarves
Norns
and a slew of Beasts
I'd like to see some of the Anglican twists off the same lore.
Faeries
Sprites
Boggins
Then some Arthurian legend king of stuff.
Mounted knights...as heroes and squads
Paladin
Wizards
Druids
Green Knight
White Stag
Celtic legend.
Master of the Hunt
Elementals
Greek/Roman
Odesseus or ancient mariner
Hydra
Hercules type hero
Titans
more to come

Point 1) I want undead pirates.
Point 2) JHope, welcome to the boards. Here's a checklist for stuff you should know before you start talking smack:
A) What is a dot-netter?
B) If I throw you through a window, what is my next line?
C) What is the only proper title for cbs42?
D) Who made Quests of Heroscape? Who did the art?
E) What is the single greatest accomplishment of Hero?
F) Who coined the phrase, 'Hot Lava Death,' and where?
G) What was the original graphic atop the HQ?
Once you can answer all those 100% correctly, you should be more than ready to sling crap. If you start slinging crap before you know all these answers, you will ruin your long-term credibility and people will just think you're a jackass. If you establish a reputation before you start acting like flame-bait, you should be much better able to be confrontational. Not only that, but you will know which remarks to ignore.
This is not a slam, this is advice. I think it's good advice, and I practiced very similar advice when I began posting on the original fan site. And look where it got me - now I'm a Man Genius.

Don't they really need to make some Hispanic/Latino figures??? I mean there is Agent Carr and the Black Krav Maga agent and the Asian community is well represented by all the Samurai's. Some undead Mexicans would be really cool! Tie it in with the day of the dead and all.

i wish they would make fewer humans and more creatures.
how about something like "Graboids" from Tremors :)
seriously, i love when the large hero expansions come out because of the creature factor. the latest boosters (Jandar and Zanafor) have had way too many humans, imo.

A checklist? That's bogus. I don't know but one thing on that list. Are you telling me that since I haven't been posting for a year or two I lack credibility? Do all the old-timers really feel this way? I would have thought their seniority would have made them more laid back and better able to roll with the blows. I give everyone equal respect until they open their mouth. If I am insulted by a newbie or a .netter I am still insulted and will forever think of that person as an idiot until they apologize. If I see an intelligent post by a newbie or by a .netter I am impressed and think that person intelligent until proven otherwise. I think it is asinine to treat a poster differently because they are new. grrr

JH - I am a relative newbie to this group, but I do understand something about the internet. This is a free place. You signed up - you're a member. Speak away. There is no council of elders that grants you your rights. You have your rights by nature.
IMax - I respect your contribution to the community very much...but what you wrote doesn't sound very welcoming to a newbie. Hang on a sec - is it suggested that there are things that can't be said by anyone who DOESN'T know which HS fan came up with a particular phrase, or what graphics were used on a long-defunct web site?
By the same logic, perhaps we'd better have no comments on aeroplanes except by people who know the name of the Wright Brothers' main sponsors, no comments on newspapers unless you can identify the wood used by Caxton for his first press, and we'll have no TV reviews except by the folk that can tell you Baird's first picture broadcast.
No. I'm sorry. Setting some sort of entry bar that requires intimate knowledge of the fan community just makes it sound like you're running some sort of kindergarten club, the worst sort of clique. If I wanted that sort of nonsense, I'd try and post to the warhammer USENET group (a bunch of tossers who have exactly the same sort of attitude, I'm afraid).
Accept that the contributions of new guys is bound to retread old ground from time to time, but might also throw up something new precisely because THEY are new, and come with a fresh mind and fresh ideas. Thank them for their contributions, and explain with patience why they are wrong if their new ideas are actually old ideas that have been tested and rejected for god reason. And if they start "slinging crap", judge them for it, then politely explain why it's unacceptable - but don't accept it from *anyone*, even if the crap-slinger can tell you how many different avatars UD has had. Because crap will be crap whoever posts it - and saying that it is somehow more acceptable from the "old guard" is one sure way of pushing the community apart, rather than pulling them together.
And that way, I'll still let you vote next time even though you have no idea who George Washington's wig maker was :)

Nice post. It sounds like you are either going to be doing some customizing or waiting a long time. What you listed could be 3 waves unto itself. I would love to see some more hulking brutes in the armies.
Troll - Maybe a big hulking troll that regenerates a wound every round but has low movement and defense.
Mamooth Calvary - Nothing says I'm going to stomp you like someone mounted on an elephant. Give it a stomp attack to use on nearby units or maybe a charge attack that you use while you move and if its not successful it ends your move adjacent to the affected figure.
Mounted Knights - Come on why would anyone be a knight and not use a old horse and lance? Give him the same charge attack above and maybe the traditional coward's reward.
I also would love to see some more variety in units as well.
Crossbow men - Maybe give them a high attack missile attack that keeps them from moving on the next turn.
Undead - Plenty mentioned here already but no really nasty things so far though the marro seem to come bretty close.
The Mongol Horde - Come on their wild, ruthless, and nasty fighters.
Civil war troops - Since they weren't afraid to tap the Revolutionary why not the civil war as well?
There are some other awesome ideas in this thread too. All in all I live the game and hope they keep making more.

Mamooth Calvary - Nothing says I'm going to stomp you like someone mounted on an elephant. Give it a stomp attack to use on nearby units or maybe a charge attack that you use while you move and if its not successful it ends your move adjacent to the affected figure.
A Carthaginian War Elephant for Einar would be superb. Carthaginian because they used smaller African forest elephants (now exinct), and everyone's heard how Hannibal lead a few dozen over the Alps; if you went for the classic Seleucid War elephant, you'd (i) need more plastic, as Indian elephants are bigger, and (ii) have people asking "who were the Seleucids?"
Got to be an Einar unit, though - there's not enough scope for big criters in an Einar army to pass up this chance.
Mounted Knights - Come on why would anyone be a knight and not use a old horse and lance? Give him the same charge attack above and maybe the traditional coward's reward.
Human cavalry is likely to be quite large; I'd thought about mongol horsemen myself, but rejected it on the grounds that 3 in a booster would leave precios little room for anything else. When coming up with ideas, it's always worth thinking how the manufacturer/designer thinks - how can it be moulded, how can it be packaged, can it be done as cheaply/cheaper than other units etc etc.
Civil war troops - Since they weren't afraid to tap the Revolutionary why not the civil war as well?
Because game-wise, they'd be almost identical? The Airborne Elite and the Minutemen are different enough -ranged units of low-defence humans, but one has squad discipline and the other has parachutes and grenades. I can't see them doing ACW units because they'd behave a lot like Minutemen.
It's sometimes worth thinking about what could make a suggestion "special" - Einar in particular is going to struggle, as a LOT of the historical stuff I thought about can be rejected as either too expensive to make (mounted knights), or too similar to stuff he already has (English Longbows).
Customs? Nah, not for me. There's enough in the game at the moment without e wanting to flex my poorly developed games design muscles. Though I d want tosee some stuff that treats standard terrain differently - like some sort of "climber", who can climb cliffs on rock more easily. Sly Stallone from Cliffhanger, perhaps? See what I mean, about it being better if I left customs well alone?

RichardD, great idea on the elephant. Hannibal was Carthagian? My history is getting rusty. Guess I need to brush up. Carthagians would be a great match for Einar. Kudos.
The mounted knights are easy to package. Just like the swog rider you can make them a common hero and just put one in an expansion pack. Another option would be to make a squad of two. The only two man squad we have thusfar is the Zettian Guard. About time we had a second.

Yeah...Antiochus IV gets the special Desecration ability and you have to burn the lamp in your castle for eight days to get rid of it. (Of course, I may be wrong. The first time I saw a billboard in Israel advertizing MACCABEES BEER, I, being Scots-Irish, read it as MacCabees. Talk about your mistaken identity!)

Cave Hide 2
Before placing order markers each round, Osama rolls the 20 sided die. If he gets 2-20, he is removed from play, but is not destroyed. If he gets a 1, every unit in all opposing armies may attack Osama. They do not need to be in range or have line of site. Osama may not roll defence if he fails the roll.

I was big into seeing more fantasy figures (especially dwarves) but since I've lately been burnt out on fantasy, I'd have to say more gritty dark future types ala Wasteland/Fallout/Road Warrior or even Escape From New York. Let's see a Max or Snake Plissken rip-off, or maybe a post-apocalypse biker gang or a big dude like The Humungous in The Road Warrior. Or how about a guy with a chainsaw and shotgun like Ash in Evil Dead? Of course, none of these will ever happen since Hasbro is bent on marketing to the kiddies, so instead we'll continue to see more run-of-the-mill lame stuff like goofy robots (gladiatrons/X17/Omnicron Snipers) or the upcoming robotic armadillos or Charlie's Angels girls in white.

If I could choose only one unit to come in the next wave it would be War Elephants, maybe with Hannibal as a unique hero. (I know, that probably counts as two, but that’s what I want.)
Other than that and in this order …
War Elephants
Ships/boats and naval rules
Mounted Knights including Arabian/Bedouin maybe war camels too
Mongols
Longbow Men and Crossbow Men
Common Samurai (maybe we’re getting these)
Dwarves
More elves
Uruk-hai
A Skeleton Army
Siege equipment, catapults and the like
Paladins
More trolls, and goblins, and hobgoblins, but not that many
More Giants, but just a few
More mythical/fantastic beasts, Centaur, Monitor, Cerberus and the like, but just a few
Ke-mo-shi and maybe the “Marro Elephant/Giant” (if there is such a thing, I personally think that the description could just as well be of Su-Bak-Na, the sketchy picture is definitely not of an elephant and could just have been a prototype) but that should be about the end of the Marro, at least for a while.
I don’t care if we get more modernish, modern, post-modern/science fiction types, but…
as long as we’ve got the 4th Massachusetts, how about …
Red Coats, Hessians and Highlanders
White Coated Frenchies (on the Planes of Abraham)
Green Mountain Boys, gap-toothed frontier’s men and the like
Minute Men and the Continental Army
Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) War Parties
Artillery
That's good enough for now.

MYSTERY MEN!

"Whatsoever therefore is consequent to a time of war, where every man is enemy to every man; the same is consequent to the time wherein men live without other security than what their own strength and their own invention shall furnish them withal. In such condition there is no place for industry, because the fruit thereof is uncertain, and consequently no culture of the earth; no navigation, nor use of the commodities that may be imported by sea; no commondius building; no instruments of moving, and removing, such things as require much force; no knowledge of the face of the earth; no account of time; no arts; no letters; no society; and which is worst of all, continual fear, and danger of violent death;and the life of man, solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short.

Since I don't feel like reading through this whole thread, (8 pages already dang :D ) I'll just make a comment about something I read on the first page.
Mechs would be cool...
Would you want them to be single units, or would you want them to be frames that other units could occupy?
And just because I don't play with smileys enough.

Ashigaru (i.e. common samurai units) to fill in the Samurai units.
Newb.
Ashigaru
Common Squad
move: 6 (light armor)
range: 1 (spear)
attack: 2 (peasants with spears)
defense: 2 (light armor)
Spear Wall
when three or more Ashigaru are adjacent to each other you may activate the shield wall special. When an enemy figure becomes engaged with the Ashigaru and the Ashigaru had a LOS on that figure before it moved they may make an attack on that figure before it attacks.

Is the dragon real?
The epistemological puzzle raised by this simple question is immense!
Euryon
June 7th, 2006, 07:45 PM
Im confused as to whether he refers to "the dragon", as in Satan or some other malevolent sentience, "a dragon" as in the mythological creature, or "the dragon" as in the custom creation and whether it is an official HS piece.
Before we get into epistemology, theres some truth value to discern!

We probably ought to start with the proposition that:
there are no real dragons.
And then go from there.

I'll second more samurai/ashigaru, elephants (with howdah and archers), and mounted troops in general.
Speaking of mounted figures, some bikers complete with bikes would make nifty modern day units (arm them with chains, nail-studded bats, etc.).
One idea my group came up with (somewhat jokingly, but it might work) are lumberjacks. Give them the ability to take out trees (and possibly figures adjacent to the tree at the same time).
Oh, and pikemen might be neat.

jeese people what's with the "are dragons real" thing. The shadow dragon is not in mythology which is where the other dragons came from. He is a computer game character.

I think cavemen would be cool
Common Squad of 3
A2
D2
M4
Tribe pack bonus: Add one attack dice for every caveman attacking a single figure that round.
This would be based on the fact that cavemen could take down a mammoth by working together.
These would be a great counter squad for any huge overpowered figure.

A Mr. Rogers figure with that starts with 3 tokens. He can use a token to roll the 20-sider and on a 14 or more, no figures can attack for 3 full turns while all the figures visit a candy factory. :D

Alright, you asked for it. It's time to move my batboy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bat_Boy) out onto the table.
Bat Boy
Attack: 2
Defense: 4
Move: 8
Life: 1
Size: Small 3
Points: 40
Flying
Disengage
Media Frenzy: Every time Bat Boy successfully wounds a character, a celebrity marker is added to his army card (these can be exploited by the media units).
Daring Escape 8: When this unit is killed, roll d20. If an 8 or higher is rolled Bat Boy escapes death but temporarily leaves play for the rest of the round. At the beginning of the next round and before placing order markers, Bat Boy may be placed on any open space on the map which does not contain a rune.
I actually really want to play this version of the game now. hehehe. I'm going to have to start to make some army cards!

How about some engines of war?
The size of the packaging they use for the waves would be big enough to have an engine and a crew or a couple of light engines. Even if it required some push-together assembly.
You know stuff like...
- A Roman Scorpion (oversized cross bow on a tri-pod)
- Catapault
- Trebuchet
- Perhaps a catapault fitted with arrow baskets?
- A battering ram for opening that pesky castle door
Ammo
-besides rocks or arrows (normal attack), special attack idea of flame splash or disease or arrow storm or something...
Love my castles, but it would be really good to get the attackers seige engines since the defenders have tall walls, a strong front door, etc.
Just my wish list.
