I was considering the idea of instead of having each battle it's own story, to make it part of a larger story, almost a campaign idea, whereas the conflict changes and grows depending on who accomplishes what objectives. I haven't quite figured out what I need to do, but I think it'd be very interesting to have certain marching orders for each player, to write down certain basic objectives before the actual battle starts such as
"take the high ground"
"Set up defenses"
"Search for rune stones"
"Scout the area"
"Send messenger for reinforcements"
"Ambush"
"Feint attack"
now I haven't gotten these written up as to what they'll really do, but I wouldnt mind hearing some thoughts about it.
